The shot of Ralphie at 2:56 is one of my favourite images from the show. He’s first introduced to us in this episode with tears in his eyes when he gives his respects to Tony. Then we see his snarky attitude and hearing aid joke by the poolside. At first he doesn’t seem so bad. And then we see this shot. The darkness in his eyes says it all as he watches Joe getting beat up. His true demented self is fully revealed here in just one shot. Joey Pants nailed this character. Very allegorical.

I thought I was the only one who thinks this. Say all you want about Ralphie, but that dude knows how to holds his own. Him and Livia were the most entertaining and engaging characters in the show. I hated that he was killed off.

Wow beautiful writing. Tony gets visibly agitated the instant Vito says "at least she didn't suffer". He couldn't let his family and Capos see him emotional. He immediately demonstrated his leadership by leading them outside to talk business to distract himself from the grief and unresolved anger that's been festering within and he knows he'll never get closure.

2:58 When Tony is in a scene, chatting with two other people, there's a good chance he ends up killing them both at some point later on in the series.....

Look at the expression on Tony's face after Ralph shares grief over a dying mother. He looks guilty, or maybe just alienated, for being happy that his mother is dead.

Yeah, he was the character in the show that you love to hate. When Tony finally killed Ralph, I thought it was long overdue. And it was, in my humble opinion, one of the best episodes of The Sopranos.

Ralphie coming into the show marks a tonal change in the series where it just becomes darker and darker. Fitting since Ralph was the most pitch black character on the show.
