You know what’s so incredible about this show? The infrastructure they build on storylines. In this scene we first hear about the shakedown of Feech’s card game. Never again mentioned until the next season when Ralph tells the full story to Jackie Jr. and his buddy. Then in season 5 we finally get to see Feech LaManna as a character. This kind of deep narrative weaving is an example of true, dedicated, quality story-telling. This show never ceases to amaze me even after seeing the whole thing in its entirety at least four or five times.

James Kennedy I dont blame them. When a mobster does hard time they are supposed to be given the world when they get out for not giving anyone up and making it possible for the family to continue to earn. It seems like Richie was deprived of that by Tony.
@810wasaninsidejob96 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well considering Richie probably would've been made Boss when Jackie died, can't exactly blame him for being pissed about it.
@user-ot1ue5qc5e5 жыл бұрын
@Dario Gomez No they are not. Prison time is part of the life - Richie is SUPPOSED to keep his mouth shut because he took an oath. The family doesn't owe you shit for doing your job, even if they give you a nice homecoming and extra favours after you are released.. Acting like you're doing the family favours by not ratting and doing time is not going to get you anywhere in the mob. Richie didn't understand how to be patient, how to slowly build up his earning and income sources and not step on anyone's toes. Dude was hopeless because he was in a permanent state of psycho rage at the whole fucking world for not bowing down to him. Richie's impatience not only prevented him from earning more money, it also cost him money as well. There is a scene where Tony takes away Richie's bid on the Fairfield Township contract because of his disobedience (selling cocaine along the routes after being warned multiple times). Richie WOULD have been boss if he didn't go to prison - but that's hypothetical. Reality is that he went to prison and the reigns were taken up by Tony. Also the thing with Beansie, it's been implied that he got his fair share (in fact more than fair, considering that Richie and Jackie took the majority of the cut despite Beansie putting in all the legwork to move the H), and therefore was out of line for continuing to shake him down.

At the start of the series, Tony admired men who stayed silent and did time. He felt obligated to help them out as a result. After learning three hard lessons - Richie, Feech, and Tony B - I think Tony was fed up with returning wiseguys by the end (not even taking Phil into account, making it even worse). I think he figured out by the end that returning wiseguys were high-risk and low value - angry and entitled from their time in the can, but too out-of-the-loop to be very useful in the modern racket. Had Tony not been killed in the diner and the series continued, I think we would have seen a very different attitude toward returning wiseguys - much more controlled and less tolerant of misbehavior. See the way Tony softpedals Richie here even after Richie starts breaking his balls? A post-season 6 Tony likely would have simply had him killed after talking like that.

you see tony deteriorate while being boss. as he used to say "everything turns to shit." some of it not being a result of his actions. you see paulie, jackie jr, chrissy, ralphie, even silvio display resentment. theres a scene where he asks junior- 'dont you love me?" june doesnt answer, instead turning away as he's about to cry. the mafia life has killed their sense of true family. and if you know italian people, thats the harshest thing.

Richie acted like he had a death wish right out the gate. Even just watching clips he’s constantly intractable, always costing others a dollar in some hotheaded quest to get a nickel somebody else owed him. He was the very opposite of levelheaded and a constant headache for Tony.

If this were season 6 and some guy fresh out of the can had tried that line (and calling him "kid") with Tony he'd get a real shit-kicking, captain or no. After Richie, Ralph, Feech, Tony B, Tony had just lost patience with guys expecting this and that like it's their due. By season 6 the DiMeo Family belongs to Tony. Here he knows he's still consolidating things and feels he can't afford to make an enemy of an old-time made guy like Richie.
