I noticed it during the world cup at Blizzcon as well. You see the attacking team, at the beginning of the match, peeking what heroes the defensive team have, and then moving back to spawn instantly to change their own setup that better counters the defensive team. That's not fun.

I wanted to leave a witty or insightful comment, but honestly, I don't have anything to say other than this is exactly what I've been feeling for the past few months. I used to be able to sink hundreds of hours into a single competitive season and play all the time, but now I just feel so powerless at times that I can barely play more than 4-5 games at a time. Overwatch has always been interesting to me because of the fact that despite there being strong counters, there was always a way to outplay. No matter what, you could've always done something to prevent your "counter" from countering you, which felt amazing. That's what makes so many players not enjoy playing against Brigitte, Doomfist, Sombra, etc. Especially as a main tank player, my gameplay has gone from mental games versus the enemy's main tank, trying to bait ultimates and set up big plays with our positioning, to simply holding w and not getting angry when control is taken away from me. For most heroes, that definitely feels like the case as well; you don't have so much counterplay as you do hard counters. I really do love Overwatch, I spend hours and hours thinking about this game and making content for other people to improve and find the enjoyment I have from playing, but now honestly its getting more and more difficult. I realize that I've spent more time creating content in one week than I have playing comp in 1 month, which really scared me and made me realize that I don't enjoy Overwatch anymore. I just wish Blizzard would come out and say, "We realize we haven't had our priorities straight, we're going to start focusing more on the part of Overwatch that the community cares about, and we're going to start by doing _____". It feels like something drastic like that would at least help some of the lost content creators and community members to return, because more and more each day I want to play less and less. But either way, my comment kinda just feels like I'm repeating what you said in the video, but after all I just wanted to leave my remarks here. Much love from BG

I remember when they would bring on pro players to give tips on how to outplay certain hero counters like tracer vs McCree or Widow vs Winston and they would actually be extremely helpful and they made it easy for players all across the ladder to practice and perform in actual competitive games but now there is absolutely nothing players can do because they just keep putting hard counters in the game making overwatch a game of playing what's meta rather than picking a hero you like and getting really good and succeeding

Getting countered in TF2: You're at a disadvantage, but you can still potentially win/escape with some good aim and maneuvering, or by changing your loadout if necessary. Getting countered in Overwatch: Die faster so you can respawn as someone else.

You can counter every ult in the game with certain heroes (not even including supports) or just smart moves. Except tracer ult on top of u. Every hero in this game is annoying to play against if player is good. And yes. Counterpicking is great cos u have to be smart to win. There is hundreds of videos like "dafraan 200iq" for a reason. @@yellowtunes2756 counterpicking is not fun. it leads to a game death. if only certain character can counter certain character's ability then it's become very sad, because that means you don't have freedom to play what you really want, instead you have to listen to your team whole time like a slave, you becomes a slave to your team and to the meta. same thing in paladins. used to play it but paladins became more counterpicking so i left it. but in tf2 you can counter any class with any class. you just have to be smart with your strategy and change your class weapons. that's it.

As a casual player in general, I just feel like Overwatch isn't a game where you can play and have fun. I feel a lot of that has to due with how Overwatch seems less reliant on player skill and more about who just happens to have picked a certain hero. I want to play as Winston? Too bad, there's a Reaper on the other team, so I better switch if I don't want to feel absolutely useless. In games like Team Fortress 2 and Titanfall 2, the skill ceiling seems so much higher. A Scout should be ripped apart by a Heavy, but a skilled Scout player can win without getting hit once. In Titanfall 2 the grenadier weapons like the EPG should be at a huge disadvantage with all the hitscan weapons, but a skilled player can fly through the environment to get quick, airborne kills with it.

@@HyperShadic0 I think what I dislike about the decisions made for Overwatch from a design standpoint is that it functions more like a MOBA than a shooter. The heavy reliance on abilities being available to be useful works in an overhead game like say, DOTA 2, but just doesn't feel nearly as good when you have full movement in a shooter. Team Fortress 2 strikes a very good balance between teamwork and individual skill, while Titanfall 2 is still unmatched in the freedom it's movement system offers, giving it a very high and rewarding skill ceiling.

Titanfall 2 is really slept on. I mean, the Titan v. Titan combat is what Overwatch should have become. Using your abilities and your skills in tandem to take down an opposing titan is the best feeling ever. Abilities aren't overpowered nor are the weapons.

As someone who really likes playing widow, as soon as I see the enemy team has genji/Winston I just run back into spawn. Trying to play against a Winston as widow is just horrendously unfun with 0 counted play. Even gold Winston’s know to spin around when jumping you so you can’t headshot them mid jump. Throw down shield, take 80% of your HP, you grapple away, their jump is already nearly off cooldown, and they jump you again before you can get healed. Where’s the fun in that? And try to complain about it anywhere? “Just switch off widow idiot lol” ok but I want to play widow. A counter is supposed to make your job difficult, not impossible.

That is the one thing TF2 gets right. There is no such thing as hard counters in TF2. There are soft counters but if a player plays his cards right he can overcome the disadvantage and win. Spy is Engineer's counter for example, but that does not inherently mean game over for the Engineer when a spy shows up. If he plays his cards right he can kill the spy, save his buildings, and keep going as if nothing ever happened. You don't get that in Overwatch, running into your counter means game over. Overwatch's game design makes it to where having the classes that counters the enemy team's classes is priority number one. It creates a Rock, Paper, Scissors type of gameplay where character choice is more important than skill. You should never lose a fight just because you had scissors while the enemy had rock, but thats business as usual in Overwatch.

Honestly the only gameplay/balancing issues TF2 has is that inherently Demoman and Soldier are way more flexible than the rest to the point where if you have 3+ soldiers or demos, you can still easily win the game...similarly in competitive, more than one engineer is unbalanced and unfair. I used to play Valve competitive and wanted to like it but having no class limits or item bans really hurts the quality...speaking of which, if an enemy or allied medic has a vaccinator in comp, he is Satan and deserves to be called an absolute dick. The final nail in the coffin for valve comp was the wait time and frequency of cheaters...and they decided Turbine was competitively viable...lord have mercy. (Sticking with prolander seems much better here)

Exactly. Like, I’m a pretty big spy main (Judge me if you wish). If I see a phlog or backburner pyro (or someone with a flamethrower in general, but those two use the flame part the most in my experience), I know I don’t need to switch usually. Sure, I’m gonna die a few times, but I can do stuff. I can use alternate paths so I don’t become predictable, I can hide in new areas, I can wait for the combat to start before going in for a stab or two, and obviously there’s the myriad of trickstabs I still have no idea how to do, after a year of playing and nearly 50 hours (I’m a casual scrub). Whereas overwatch, where I main Genji, if I want to do anything I need to switch heroes because Brigitte is on every team out there. Which sucks, because there used to be a time where Genji and Tracer and counterpicks in general were able to be played against. You find a McCree? Deflect the flash bang, right click head and dash through him. You meet a Pharah, dash towards her and right click at the peak of height. You meet a Winston... well there you usually just die, but the point still stands. There used to be so much counterplay. And its sad to see that the game has just become Rock Paper Scissors

Ghoffman91 I haven’t played competitive TF2 in like 5-6 years but when competitive was run through 3rd party websites. TF2 only allowed one of each character. So no matter what you were countering someone. And someone was countering you. It was switching it was being mindful of how you played and where you were. It could have changed tho as again I haven’t played competitive since they added it to the actual game.

The whole reason I started playing Overwatch was because specific characters appealed to me. I remember seeing early promotional material for the game and I didn't care about it at all. But then I saw the Junkrat & Roadhog trailer, I loved how different they were. Right up my alley. And the cast is DESIGNED to appeal to people like that. But the freaking gameplay doesn't allow you to actually play the characters that resonate with you. It's basically team comp the game. I've completely lost interest in Overwatch as a result. If I can't play the 5 or 6 characters I actually enjoy I'd rather play something else. I just don't understand why they designed such a wide range of characters with such unique gameplay that's obviously going to appeal to different demographics... then make the gameplay unbelievably strict with team comps

Once you get a hero to be as fluid as breathing, they will nerf them or buff other heroes and create a mets your hero sucks in.

I love playing junkrat too, and I’ve gotten into playing reaper (I’m not great at DPS so I decided to choose one that seemed more fun at the time), but they’re not “meta” right now and it’s not fun playing a game where everything has to be the right choice. Slightly off topic, that’s why I stopped liking CoD, if you didn’t have one or two guns (or in some cases, those variants of the guns), the game was miserable to play. When variety is presented but unusable, why bother?

As much as TF2 is compared to OW at nauseam, I think in this scenario it's fair. You basically described what TF2 already is, not a lot of overpowered things and multiple viable strategies with deep core gameplay. If you don't use the meta, that's okay, because even trolldier can be played very effectively if you have reached a high enough skill ceiling. You can always improve, always get better, no matter if you have 1 hour or 10,000 hours. I think if they just scooped out ults altogether, replaced them with alternative weapons for each character that changes their playstyle drastically, and balanced the other aspects of each character properly, it would throw some people off and maybe make them not play, but given a couple months that kind of a game would more than make up for its weight in salt.

I agree with every point in this video with a burning passion. Overwatch is the only competitive game I've every considered myself good at. And over the years my play time has only gone down. I used to play ranked matches everyday and it was fun but nowadays even thinking about playing a ranked match makes me ridiculously frustrated. I love Overwatch so much and I only hope the best for the community and the competitive scene but with the way the meta has changed the game play so much the game now feels like a chore to play and thats just no fun. @@jortmanshanden6722 Well, the way I've seen throughout this time is that Overwatch mixes the strategy that MOBAs bring, adds the variety/style of TF2, and allows the skill of an FPS (or at least that's how it seemed to attract people for me). But recently, the strategy part is way too dominant leaving the other two behind. You can't play certain ways because of certain characters and that deletes the variety aspect to it. You can't just be good at shooting since there're easier and better characters that do your job. In the end, it just feels a little empty or not what I originally started playing for. And for the ultimate part, I mean, look at MOBAs like LoL or Dota; ultimates are part of the game and can turnaround fights but they have NEVER caused such a black and white situation (I mean perhaps, but thatd be too situational and specific). And this comes from an idiot that has been playing since its first season. The only time they had been too strong was during the first season and they were quickly tweaked. Ultimates spice up the gameplay but never really ruin it. To focus more on the non-ultimate gameplay would, personally, be a better change and have them be more of a "I get to do something cool/useful/flashy" sort of deals and not "this ult plus this ult means gg" sort of checkmates.

And that until brig came out Dive was played so much in the higher elos, but after brig, dive became almost unplayable. So he said that Dive meta, although it was everywhere, was much more fun than brig meta and that there are so many cc (crowd control) abilities that it makes the game unfun. I think at some point he may have mentioned how brig doesn't take much skill to play, but don't quote me on that. I think an interaction that well represents how things are now with Overwatch is Genji vs McCree, and Genji vs Brig: The Genji and the McCree both have essentially their own little mind game between themselves, both trying to predict each others abilities, and It's exhilarating!! As both a McCree and a Genji player I never felt like I was at a disadvantage because of my hero choice in that fight. It's a level playing field - the player that outsmarted their opponent won. But with Genji vs Brig it's just, "I picked Brig so if you come near me you die", which has no real counterplay.. You switch or avoid Brig for the whole game (and if you're going to do that you might as well switch anyway). That is very far from what made Overwatch so fun in the first place and it's very unfortunate that it's ended up this way..

I remember when I used to play Overwatch so much. It was before and during Sombra's release. I can remember the feeling of hitting a Genji deflection headshot on a Mcree, so satisfying. And whenever I got headshot with my own bullet as Mcree, I knew I just was getting a little too spammy with my shooting and not keeping the Genji in mind enough. The interactions between heroes in game promoted further learning and diving deeping into the game. I wish that hadn't gone away.

I agree with your point. To analyse even further, I think the real problem in this case is that Brig is to easy to play. There is no risk involved for her to come near you and go for that stun + instakill, whereas mcree can also get close to you to land his stun, but he takes a huge risk of mistiming and actually dieing to you.

i disagree that mccree and genji is on even footing, mccree's ulti is extremely rare that they can get much value out of, while genji ultimates win team fights really hard more often than not. when it comes to 1v1 genji can double jump which makes it a nightmare for a mccree to aim at a genjis head at those crucial moments in time where as genji have 3 things to do, when to deflect against flashbang, when to just swiftstrike combo him to death and when to just double jump and throw shurikens until he dies, all while mccree knows that the genji will kill him if he doesn't flash bang correctly more often than not because how difficult it is to aim at someones head who is double jumping on yours all while when he can kill you at approximately in the same amount of time you normally can kill someone with 1 headshot and 1 body shot, or a full FTH. the biggest indicator on how the 1v1 actually is, is just looking how their ultimates work against each other if they activate it at the same time, genji can deflect while in his, but he can also choose to slash you and kill you immediatly, while mccree is stationary and just have to figure out if genji is trying to slash him or deflect him and all this in like 1 frame of seconds because genji could possibly just dash and slash while mccree is charging up or deflect a little later when he knows he's under deadly fire. but as a game genji has the upper hand just because of the importance of mobility.

I get the exact opposite. QP is almost guaranteed to be a Hanzo, Widow, and 2 or 3 other DPS. I jump on healer until it becomes apparent that the DPS on my team aren't killing anyone and no matter how much I heal them, they will die without killing anyone. And then once in a while I join a game where our team actually tries just a little bit and we roll over the enemy team (which is probably a Hanzo, Widow, etc...). My teams in comp games (with randoms) usually at least try to put together a good comp. There's still more landslide than I'd like, but no where near as bad as QP.

And of course Mercy gets buffed because she has disproportionate league-level usage, all other skill levels be damned. Talking hard counters, you either Play Mercy, Kill Mercy or Beg for Mercy." I wonder how many more years Overwatch will act like it's a work in progress, or does it expect to be that way throughout its entire lifecycle? I never got on board with this game because so much of it feels mailed in, and it's pretty clear where Blizzard's priorities are. Whether we're insisted to "Stay tuned for more updates" or early OW were just simpler times, the time for the game to be enjoyable conveniently never involves the present. All indicators show it's probably not going to get better.

Isn't it the issue with any competitive game? I used to play Dota2 a lot and I had the same issue with good games were really good and bad really bad, and obviously you can win and it still be a bad game and loose and have the most epic game. I'm not easy to tilt, I never yell or go into rage arguments with teammates, but eventually I just stoped, since just clicking that play button was a gamble and playing 10 horrible or mediocre games to get this 1 amazing one was not worth it. The truth is I'm way happier and have no urge to go back to competitive games whatsoever. This is probably the reason I completely ignored overwatch.

That game handled it best. You would never know a character's sexuality until they make an off the cuff statement or you had the correct sexuality perk to flirt with them. An example would be Arcade Gannon. You can flirt with him to have him be your companion if you were a guy and had the perk that increased dmg to men and unlocked gay dialogue. Or you can just talk to him and he'll talk about how he's not a people person and then make an off-the-cuff remark about there being no guy to sweep him off his feet. But nope. Blizzard went the tumblr fanfic route where a character is only an amalgamation of arbitrary traits they were born with. So they think it's meaningful character development when they reveal something stupid like the Soldier being gay.

Tell me about it. Pretty casual player here, struggling to get my last 100 SR to get into gold. From my perspective, even having a ton of time on my hands, it is EXTREMELY difficult and asking too much of the player to practice so many different heroes. I want to use the one or two that I excel at and and natural grow as a user of them, but there are always where if I stay that character I'm throwing. So I'm forced to switch, but here comes another problem: I don't have much practice with said other characters and that causes me to just not live up to my full potential in a match, and the whole thing is just really agravating.

I think the issue is that overwatch has strayed from its original design principle, "everything must be fun". Ever since they released sombra, it feels like every hero features anti-fun abilities. All these heroes have anti-fun cc abilities that limit player agency. Somewhere along the line, the devs lost track of their design philosophy and it really shows in the way the game has evolved since 2016.

I agree. Fun really is the thing that should be prioritised over everything else. Being hacked isn't fun, nor being stunned. Shield Tanking isn't fun anymore, but glad they are finally fixing it with the Brig nerf. It goes back again to Mercy, it wasn't the fact Mercy was a must pick every game was the biggest issue, it's the fact the majority of the player base didn't want to play her. If she was a must pick, but everyone loved playing her, few would care. I think the developers became overly obsessed with balancing out pick rates, rather than making sure the enjoyment of the game isn't affected. Balancing out pick rates is important, but should never come in the expense of fun.

This has been what I've been thinking for a long while now. Overwatch just has so many ways of shutting down people and making them feel powerless that it's hard not to feel frustrated. You could go through each and every hero, and almost all of them have a "stop what you're doing, no more fun for you" button- some notable exceptions being soldier, maybe lucio. Basically everyone else has an ability that might as well slap the controller/mouse out of the other person's hand and leave them without agency for some time. It's literally robbing people of their fun, of their ability to outplay their opponent. And that's just covering 1-on-1 fights. Like Seagull said, there's a million other things that go into Overwatch being so frustrating to play, and it's coming from every single angle of the game. It sucks.

@@Firesights Mei's wall is a symmetrical effect which requires proper timing to execute (affects both teams), ice block is easily punished either with the correct hero, or by dogpiling, and most heroes can do something to mitigate the damage from the freezing, at the very least looking away and down to avoid the headshot. By comparison, anti-fun abilities now are asymmetrical, are encouraged to be spammed, and most of the new heroes have at least some one-shot capability with little time to react.

@B H Mei's "anti-fun" took time and at least a little aim to pull off. The Freeze ray is short range, avoidable, and blockable, so it wasn't such a big deal. Stuns, Knocks and Hacks are INSTANT and for the most part, unblockable, so it's really difficult to accept it. The only good Stun is McCree's flashbang, because that took skill to outplay and hit someone. All the new CC has been very frustrating in the sense that you just have to stand there and take it. All the preparation in the world doesn't matter for shit because you can't block it without a Zarya bubble or Fortify.

HelloJinxie Bruh, if the fudging rip-off with fun spaghetti can have better balancing/character role design then a Multi-Billion dollar company that is “backed” by a Trillion Dollar company cannot have a basic fundamental of a game as watered downed as Overwatch. It’s hard to balance 34 characters with about 40 different play styles overall but it’s way simpler than a game that has 40+ characters with hundreds of play styles. The 1% was getting sick of playing dive so they added several character that the 99% can use to counter dive. I usually play Zenyatta so I know I have a bit of bias towards heroes like Sombra and Doomfist (though oddly I'm fine with Genji and Tracer?).

This video is 2 years old, and it is still the most correct video about the current state of "overwatch". The reason why I say it in parenthesis is that this is not really overwatch anymore. It's really just a echo filled, throwing filled cesspool of players that are either happy and ready to win, or the opposite where they are tilted at a 90 degree angle and don't have the mental capacity to be a good teammate or play well even if they had a bad game. I intentionally came back to this video to comment this because look. It's been 2 years and what has changed? Many people will say that the meta has changed and therefore the game is better or that their are new characters so that makes it more fun. No it doesn't, in fact I would rather be still playing dive in comp as a competitive comp as opposed to echo and Bapiste (don't even get me started on echo). They did add new OP hero's to give the competitive aspect of the game a refreshing new look. But look what they did. Echo is basically just the Pharah of 2021 as opposed to 2017-2018. And now I'm sitting here typing this, frustrated that OW 2 won't be out till 2022 and sad that my favorite game is going to be classified as a "dead game" pretty soon here. What's left of the OW community by the time OW2 will be only really dedicated players , and I'm not sure if I'm in that community or not.

Overwatch was the first FPS I'd ever played on PC, and I remember when I would just play the game day-in, day-out, having so much fun with it along the way. Once I'd finally gotten used to using a mouse and keyboard over a controller, and got used to playing Ranked after quelling my horrible anxiety issues, it opened up many opportunities for me to have even more fun with the game; building comps, communicating with teammates and making fantastic plays, both solo and with teammates...there was just something completely unparalleled within the context of the game that made me have so much fun with it. I ended up getting to around mid-Masters, and playing at that elo for quite some time, and where I loved the thrill of playing at a high level and the games could be incredibly fun, a lot of the issues you talked abut started to plague the experience, resulting in the decline of anything to do with a sense of fulfillment and enjoyment in the game. I wanted to climb, and I wanted to push myself further, to see how far I could get; I'd made it this far, and I knew I could practice and become even better at the game, but the game became littered with aspects and ideas that caused me to stray further away from it. The various new hero releases created issues in themselves: -People picking new heroes for the first time in Ranked, because they never play Quick Play, or use the PTR, and ruining team comps and any semblance of communication. -Heroes like Briggite, Moira and Doomfist, presenting an overwhelming amount of scenarios with very little counterplay. -Non-traditional design philosophies to the newer heroes, focused less on being these dynamic and layered FPS-style characters, and instead focusing around being something taken straight from a MOBA. -Due to this point, team compositions had to be so water-tight that you couldn't even have one component out of place, meaning every player had to be on the same page, and it's so easy for plans to fall apart - in a solo-queue environment, that's just a recipe for toxicity. I could carry on going with that list, but I think the idea starts to become obvious. Not to sound like a broken record, but Briggite was the final nail in the coffin for me when I put down the game, and I haven't picked it up on over a year, simply due to her existence. Briggite was everything the game didn't need, and was both over-designed and under-designed at the exact same time. Here's what I mean: When you look at the original cast of Overwatch, and even some of the additions thereafter, what do you see in these characters? Look at D.Va, Winston, Tracer, Reaper, Zenyatta...even someone as bland and "Call of Duty"-esque as Soldier: 76. Each character had something unique and inspirational about their design, as well as wide and interesting backstories that was written into their character and personality, appealing to everyone, giving people the opportunity to find a character that meant something to them, and someone they wanted to play. You could attach any of these characters alongside the name of "Overwatch", and you'd instantly see the appeal and unique characteristics of such a game - A giant monkey with a tesla gun? An angel with a healing staff? A gun-slinging Clint Eastwood-looking guy with a bionic arm yelling what time of day it is? Yes, please! Meanwhile, when they shoveled Briggite in and made her the practical poster-child for the game (as she was attached to almost every piece of promotion and E-sports when she went live in Season 10), what could you see in her? Well, she, uh, is a really generic-looking Swedish girl, clad in armour, swings a tiny rocket-powered flail, which isn't even all that unique in terms of rocket-powered weaponry, and has the personality of a cardboard cutout. She's completely under-designed, in this regard, as there's just nothing appealing about her. At all. But, on the other hand, counting her abilities, she has a total of 6 abilities, counting her ultimate, giving her the most abilities in the game, and touting the moniker of "Support", she has enough DPS to one-combo a 150-200 HP hero, and win a literal melee range fist-fight with Reinhardt, yet out-healing and out-sustaining Zenyatta and Lucio by a country mile, making them borderline irrelevant, and is the only other character that can grant armour to her allies, yet does it infinitely better than Torbjörn could ever hope to do. I shouldn't need to break down why that's an issue. One of the more ironic things about her release, and the amount of abilities she has is that this was shortly after the time of the Mercy rework,, and the installation of the Micro Rockets ability on D.Va and I specifically remember that the lord and saviour Jeff Kaplan himself stated how they wanted to balance and iron out some of the older heroes to give everyone an equal amount of abilities, putting everyone on a level playing field, yet here we get a shoddy, unimaginative and frankly boring engineer with twice as many abilities as a robot that has transcended humanity through religion. Also, you mentioned team comps, and I couldn't agree more on your statements. When I stopped playing, we were in the meta of Grav-Dragons, and every single teamfight came down to that. It was so boring, and so painful to play in, as I was basically forced into getting good with Zarya, despite not enjoying her, as nobody wanted to play her, yet people would yell and demand that someone did, whilst people with the mentalities of children would argue over who got to pick Hanzo, claiming that they were the better DPS; people would literally insta-lock and not say a word, just so they didn't have to play Zarya. I think this video is well-needed, and I'm glad you've posted something like this. It shows you're strong and passionate about a game you love, coming to terms with its flaws and laying them out for all to see. You can only really grasp how bad a situation is when someone of such stature with the game brings up these issues, and so I'm so glad you've spoken up about them. I want to return to this game at some point, but I also want it to be fun, when I do, so I hope they take these issues on-board, and we can finally find ourselves enjoying Overwatch again. Keep up the awesome work!

For 9 months now, the only mode I've been playing is Mystery Heroes, and only up to my 9 weekly Arcade wins. It's the only mode where your teammates can't throw the game by refusing to swap off a hard-countered hero. For years now, a lot of people have been parroting the same thing - if your teammates are throwing, get better so you can carry them. If you're hard stuck in plat, stop blaming your team, you are the only common factor. Git gud, git gud, git gud. But the thing is, Overwatch tries its best to match you up with people of similar skill. So if your team is handicapping itself with bad picks and the enemy team has a great comp, then in this current hard-counter-based iteration of Overwatch, you're going to lose. Like Seagull said, the game is rapidly losing flexibility, and turning into a game of rock-paper-scissors. That's not fun. That's for boring car rides, not for a game that's trying to be the #1 team-based FPS in the world.

Its definitely frustrating to hear the "if you're at x rank, its your fault because you are bad, not your teammates", when, just based on how the game works, a lot of roles really cant do much with a bad team/throwers. I climbed from silver to plat playing mostly tracer and hanzo because it was really the only way that I could influence the result of the game. From plat i climbed to diamond playing mostly lucio, as in that higher (relative to gold) elo, Lucio is actually effective. My winrate on him has only gone up the higher elo i play at. Sure i've gotten better at him, but I would attribute all of it to having tanks that engage on speed boost, not me playing that much better.

The game matches you based on superficial shit like similar accuracy, KD/R, but not on the things that actually matter: the roles you main, the counters you play, your ability to work together as a team. There’s no computer algorithm that can detect the way a human brain works to overcome the situations presented in Overwatch. And that’s the biggest matchmaking problem this game really has always had and it’s taken two and a half years to realize.

The biggest problem with Overwatch to me is that 1 player out of 6 can ruin an entire 20 minute game and it happens way too often. This game is amazing when you get a team that works together and communicates. It really is a fun and enjoyable experience it's just that experience feels very few and far between. It's very hard to carry in this game if you are in your correct elo so the frustration builds up quickly when one of your teammates is throwing or not switching or honestly sucks and thus toxicity breeds. I don't know how you can fix that though because people are going to act how they want regardless of what Blizzard does.

This wasn't the case in the past tho because most compositions were viable. Blizzard is just adding these meta-defining heroes without listening to community feedback. I mean, Ashe was on ptr for what, 2 weeks? Then added to the game with no changes to damage from her alternate fire or dynamite. It has taken 8 ***MONTHS*** for Brigitte to stop being able to stun through shield. and in those 8 months people have switched to PUBG, Fortnite, BO4 and many other titles. The number of viewers for OW has DRASTICALLY dropped on twitch and Blizzard seem don't care. They only care about their number one and its not their customers anymore, its the shareholders. Its such a shame that one of the most iconic and amazing game development companies has gone to crap like this.They have made it clear though, they want to make the game casual with lower skill ceiling characters and shorter competitive seasons.

Agree 100%. If you have an off meta hero on your team and check the stats and they are dominating, then maybe it would cool the jets of ppl who tilt at off meta. It would also highlight obvious team issues like where is your dmg coming from, are your healers healing etc.

I never said I quit Overwatch, also, much like everyone else has said on this thread, people can still express interest in things they may no longer actively engage in. Even so, if anyone wants to pick up a multiplayer FPS like Overwatch and play, whether that be casually or consistently they're entitled to opinions on the experience. Just cause you disagree doesn't mean you need to be kinda condescending. It's not even like Overwatch is a narrative driven game and you need some consistent playtime to really benefit from the experience. 'Take a seat, play for a while'? What? So, my lack-luster experience is going to get better the more I subject myself to it?

I remember the exact moment overwatch became less fun for me personally. The introduction of Doomfist, the fact that I was able to be one tapped SO easily blew my mind. The pure frustration of dealing with a very high mobility character who has armor, AND can output so much damage quickly and then leave, became a sore spot for me. Brigitte clearly didnt help my confidence in the direction that OW was headed.

DF was the reason I originally uninstalled the game as well. The damage his wall slams deal is outrageous. I like playing Moira and Zarya specifically because they can counter that gd slam. Then again, that just makes it come down to whether I have that button to push. If I can't self-shield or teleport, there is no option of winning. I can't run, and can't fight.

Two years later and this video holds up. I truly believe that if Blizzard did not add any heroes after doomfist, this game would’ve been saved. They started adding hero’s that everyone hated to play against, with bullshit abilities like immortality, where you feel absolutely useless with zero control over how the game goes

This game was and still is one of the only team shooters I play, and yeah it definitely has a lot of frustrating garbage. dude not only competitive, but now even at quick play people are sooo toxic, they clearly turn the quick play into competitive vibe, i have a friend who clearly new at overwatch he was still in level 4 that time and he told me he wanted to play hanzo so he could know how to use his abilities and how to play him and no wonder he was bad at him because it was his first time playing hanzo but our teammates at that time flamed him so crazy and getting salty so bad till the point we need to leave the game...

Mensrea same here, it’s less annoying to fight the occasional brig/doom/sombra than it is to work around them for an entire game. I place in competitive simply to get my CP at the end of the season. I refuse to solo queue in even QP nowadays bc the game is so reliant on having good teammates and on console it’s a real struggle to have comms. I have like ~1,300 hours on the game but I’ve not enjoyed myself since about season 6.

I was a GM/Top 500 player at Season 12 and below, and I excelled at FPS positioning and game mechanics, but lacked in that strategic/MOBA mindset. What made Overwatch fun for me were all the FPS nuances and now I have to rely on more strategic positioning and teammates, and I get so much more tilted now and I couldn't figure out why. A lot of times now, there are games that I feel like individually I am playing so well. If I am playing ana, I am staying alive, I get 20k healing at the end of the game, I try to hit some clutch ana nades, but we still lose because my teammates are getting out played. What can I do? A lot of the game now is, what can I do against that? Before it was like, oh we could have won if I did this. Yeah there is still some of that now, but so many times, I felt like I did what I was supposed to do, and we lose. Maybe I am in the wrong here, but this is how I feel. This video is perfect and I hope Blizzard sees this.

God, playing Support/Tank and doing well and having your team still lose feels so goddamn crushing. I've lost count of the times where my team pushes on the point, I do super well as D.Va, maybe even eating an ult or two, and find myself the last person alive and fail to cap anyway. Or games as Ana with a Pharah on the other team, where I'm constantly shooting the Pharah enough to scare her into hiding and sometimes killing her, all while the DPS yell at each other for not hitscanning well enough to counter the Pharah and distracting themselves from any possibility of doing anything.

I can still remember the time when Overwatch was first announced, I was hyped... I was hyped as hell. I got myself one of those big OW Boxes and release. It was exiting, it was fun (PS 4 Player btw - couldnt afford a PC back then). I played it alot. ALOT. About 10 hours every single day, hit master/grandmaster and on one day I hit TOP 500. Even only for a couple hours, but I was proud as heck. Now some years after the release, all the magic is away for me. In the early days/first year of Overwatch every single event was exiting, every single new hero was exiting, every cinematic was exiting. But its all away now. The events just repeat, (I dont have to talk about the heros, just watch his video) and okay the cinematics are still awesome. But after all this time I spend with this game, the magic is away. Thats why I left Overwatch. (Sorry for my bad english)

Honestly, the whole relying entirely on your team to succeed is what started pushing me away from Overwatch. It's why I loved TF2 so much. You could be a solo hero easily. Hell, there was even a role in competitive specifically for that purpose. With Overwatch, you basically get on the good team or the bad team. I can count on one hand the times where both teams were evenly matched and the game was an actual fun challenge.

@Arokhantos TBF, before dive it was triple tank so of course Ana did better in triple tank than in dive. She still wasn't dumpstered during dive, not like tracer got dumpstered by brig existing.
