Hello, I don't know if you still read the comments but I wanted to tell you that your tjlc videos made the series even more beloved to me; I watched the entire series and after feeling that John Sherlocks were made for each other from the first episode, I found your videos and you convinced me.

Dear Rebekah, I accompanied your channel during BBC Sherlock days and when everything fell apart, you were constantly on my mind. I wondered for years about how you were doing and when I first got a notification for A Better Story, I was beyond thrilled. That series of videos, as all of your videos, became one of my favorites, they’re a legit source of comfort to the point that I’m always rewatching them. I also felt very happy to see that the BBC Dracula video is back up. So thank you so much for the updates and new fic! I am very glad to see you doing so well! As an autistic person who’s always struggled with subtext reading, your work has taught me sooooo much about literature, has opened my eyes to so many things and filled me with so much joy. Every time someone tells me that I’m good at understanding stories, I think of you. Because I wouldn’t be half as good without your knowledge and infinite passion. You have inspired me and your videos have shaped me in ways that I’ll never be fully able to explain or repay. I often feel like telling you this, not so much for myself but because I think you deserve to know that your impact is everlasting. Your kindness towards your audience is moving and your love for what you do is so palpable, no wonder it resonates with so many people, why so many care about you. You have grown so much since those early days and you had the courage to come back and face the show again. That’s truly remarkable and helped me heal as well. While BBC Sherlock has brought me several good things, I firmly believe that you are the very best of them. Thank you so much for everything and I hope to see you again here! Love, a forever fan of yours x

Thank you so much Moonjoys, what a lovely comment 😭💛 Very happy that I could help you get into subtext, I was late to picking it up myself so I've always been really happy when my work can help other people who struggled to "get it" finally connect with literary analysis! I'm very deeply touched by your kind words, thank you for taking the time to write them

Your videos about TJLC way back when played a part in my decision to study English Literature at university around 5 years ago now. It’s actually so cool to hear that you’re taking your queer Holmes readings into your academic life as well!! Good luck, academia will be better with you in it ❤

The way I miss your updates!!! I want to thank you because you help me to overcome my heteronormativity, that I didn't even knew as word before and never thought about as I am straight person. You opened my eyes on how to read subtext and now I can almost always see all the little details in every tv/film that I watch. So happy to see you smile! Best of wishes!

So happy to see you Rebekah! The tjlc reading is so close to my heart and your videos have brought me so much comfort over the years. I often go back to From A Drop of Water and it's one of my absolute favourite stories :') Can't wait to check out the Dracula fic! Excited to hear you plan to do a PhD! I'm just about to wrap up mine and it's been a rollercoaster, so remember to take things slowly once you're in the program! Lots of love

Hi! You cannot imagine how hyper-excited I was when I saw a new video was out on your channel, and that excitement was multiplied by infinity when I heard that you’d written a new story, which is to say that my brain is basically refusing to respond to anything unrelated to The Stories in Our Veins 💗 I still remember when I read the last sentence of From a Drop of Water, and how completely terrified I was at the idea of not having another chapter to devour. It had really become my food and my water, without which I would not have been able to fonction. For me it was what soothed the pain of not seeing John and Sherlock together in the fourth season. Sadly, I’m drowning under tons of academic stuff and so I’ll have to wait until April before reading your new work. There’s also the fact that for me your stories are sacred and deserve to be read in good conditions :) I hope you’re having a nice day and good luck for your PhD!!!

@@TJLCExplained Hello, it’s me again! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve finally been able to read The Stories in Our Veins, and… AND THERE SIMPLY ARE NO WORDS THAT ENCAPSULATE WHAT I FELT! But but but, I still hope to mould my sentences into something approximately close to a representation, so here I go (spoiler alert for anyone who hasn’t read this marvelous story yet-honesty if you haven’t move it to the top of your to-do list): Connecting Doyle’s Watson and Holmes with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ Sherlock and John?! That is so ingenious it gives me new respect for this word. And making Doyle part of the story to explain the existence his published accounts! You never fail to surprise us in the most wonderfully thrilling way! I don’t suppose I’ve ever re-read a phrase so many times as “lying is hope, the willful belief that truth can be altered”(ch.25). If I ever get a tattoo (highly improbable), this is the sentence that will sink into my epidermis. Thank you again for this piece of yourself you have shared with all of us. I’ve never said this before, and don’t expect to say it again many times in my life: this is a story I wish I’d written. All my love, Léa

oh wow. i wasn't into tjlc back in the day - i honestly don't even remember if i came across your videos before or after season 4. but i do remember two things: 1) watching the videos and thinking "i have no idea if they're right, but the analysis is great and really entertaining" and 2) some of the aftermath, ie the videos suddenly being gone and some tumblr posts that suggested things had been much more painful than i could understand as a casual fan. i think i shared something at the time (aimed at you, but possibly through someone else) about how these videos reminded me of the things i loved about literary analysis, as an undergrad studying english.... well, i'm now a phd student studying the poetry of john keats through the lens of parasocial interaction. i relate to the pain you describe in this video and the first of the retrospective videos, not in relation to sherlock but in relation to my own academic pursuits. i did great at undergrad, my mphil was a hard experience (as i was diagnosed with autism during that year, finding out i had access needs that hadn't come up much as an undergrad but were suddenly very pressing as a postgrad) but i did well, and then i started my phd and things... got bad. long story short, i was pursuing a passion project that my faculty suddenly decided sucked, and i had a full on breakdown, and i'm still in a lot of pain over it. my current phd is a new project. almost everything you described going through in the aftermath of season 4 resonated with me, and honestly i don't know if i'm really ready to be going through this academic stuff again, but this video has really helped in cementing that i do need to face this head on and if i avoid it and abandon academia out of fear then i'm not being my whole self. thank you.

Hi Rebekah! I haven't read your work yet, but I know it came out in February and I'm getting ready to read it. I don't know English very well, so I'll tell it as it is. I am very grateful to you for these years, for your analysis, for tjlc, for your last projects. It really influenced me to go to study to be a philologist. From what I understand, you've connected your life with literature/its analysis (not quite sure I got that right), and I'm in awe of that. And I'm so proud of it all, like you're my big sister. I'm happy to be here, to be a part of this. Thank you for the years together. And if you continue to channel, to do your own projects, I'd love to follow your work. Love, Sofia

Hi, Rebekah. Both the TJLC Explained and A Better Story mean a great deal to me and, evidently, other people, and it’s been a pleasure watching and revisiting these series. It would be amazing to see more content from you, however, it’s understandable that you might not want your other work to be associated with TJLC. If you do leave this channel for good, I hope to come across your other work elsewhere 🥺 Thank you for everything you’ve done so far, for being an amazing writer and content creator, and for contributing to such a monumental part of some of our teenage years ahahha. I rarely ever comment on anything but I just had to show my appreciation. You’re such a sweet person, and I’m glad you’re doing well and have found the enthusiasm to post again despite all the S4 drama. Best of luck with your PhD!

Hey! Late to the video (sorry)! I'm so, so glad to hear about everything you're doing and that it seems to be going well! I watched your lecture on the inversion of hope and sin recently and absolutely loved it! It was brilliant! A couple of years ago, we had a brief chat on tumblr and I told you about how much your videos and TJLC had impacted me, and that I was in college studying English Literature (I'm brazillian), and I just wanted to tell you (because I thought you'd maybe enjoy knowing) that I'm writing my thesis on the queer interpretation of Holmes and how I believe BBC Sherlock endeavored to engage with it. So thank you. I don't think I would had ever had the strenght to start a conversation with the professor whom I wanted to be my advisor if you hadn't helped me realize that none of us were crazy after all. Thank you. I hope you know about the positive impact you've had. On my life, at least. So thank you. I'm going to go read your fic, like, right now. So excited!

I just wanted to let you know that I used the process of your analyses of Sherlock as the model for my MA thesis analyzing two Chinese BL dramas, Word of Honor and Guardian. Your work in those videos was extraordinary and certainly Master's level. I really hope you let us know where to find your thesis once it's published. If I do find it on my own through my university, I promise not to share it on your channel so as to protect your anonymity. You are welcome to read mine, if you want.
