I was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship. I married this man at 19, and I got pregnant within the first year. He beat me daily…it got to the point he wanted to “abort” our daughter with a crowbar..I locked myself in the bathroom. I went back and he was there when I gave birth. But then he started getting mad at the baby for waking him up. I knew he was crazy enough to hurt my baby..so I applied for an apartment and got it within a month…while he was at work, I loaded my stuff and baby into my car and left… mothers should look at their baby and be strong enough to leave.

Everyone keeps saying his mom didn’t know her kid was being abused but she legit saw marks, saw how fearful he was of her bf that she changed her shifts in order to prevent access to her kid. I feel like she knew enough at that point. It bothers me only because of her other son losing his childhood and baby brother…made to think it was his fault. Situations like this make me feel like there should be a required class in High Schools about relationships and how to spot abusive or toxic relationships. Most women (and some men as well) get caught in this "No one else will love me" and/or "Anything's better than being alone" mentality because they simply don't know any better. Abusers take advantage of that mentality and mold it into a manipulation tactic designed to control the victims. Some of this would be avoided if we just taught kids instead of just making them learn everything themselves. Do we really need four years of math that 95% of us are never going to use or do we need a class that could potentially save lives?
@007private

i agree , high school should definitely have a class for mental/physical abuse .
@zoafoxx1749
@zoafoxx1749 2 жыл бұрын
They teach all about this in Health and Sexual Education. Red flags, abusive and controlling behaviour, what to do if it happens. Doesn't matter though because middle school and high school kids almost never take it seriously, its always a "why don't u just leave?" Or "That would never happen to me" , instead of actually paying attention and realizing how complicated these situations are. As well as most kids being naive, a lot of people grow up in toxic homes and may not even recognize or "agree" with the listed behaviours being called abusive.

@@zoafoxx1749 part of it is parents in some areas are allowed to opt their child out of health class. Before my son passed of his health issues (born with them), in his 7th, 8th and beginning of his freshman year (he died midway through freshman year) I was always presented a "permission slip" regarding health class. My kiddo passed in 2017, so figure 2014, 2015 in VT that I know for sure they require parental permission for kids to take health. And I'm sure they probably required permission slips before that. When I lived in TX, the area I lived required them back in 2010 and likely before that as well. Two vastly different states but with the same parental permission needed.

He doesn’t deserve privacy, but it’s for the legal protection of those who speak about the case. It’s tricky when someone has not been found guilty in a court of law to publicly use their name in a case like this because that’s considered defamation of character by libel or slander. I was in a relationship with a narcissist. Fear is a major factor in this type of case. She was terrified for herself & for her son. Look at all the cases where a person was murdered or injured severely because of an abusive partner. I was terrified of my ex-husband. I still don’t want him knowing where I live & we’ve been apart for 13 years. I have a lot of trauma from my relationship. To someone that’s never experienced it, it’s difficult to explain. But they love bomb you with the “I’m sorry”’s & gifts & the “it’ll never happen again”’s… they’re so charming that you believe them… sometimes, for a while, it’s better. But then they go right back to how they were before. It gets worse every time. Living in fear is crippling.

I'm trying to be considerate of Eric's feelings. I hope that he receives the therapy and treatment he needs to heal. I want to know what happened in his mother's life that had her attracted to such neglectful and abusive men. Her first husband was neglectful, D was sexually abusive towards her children, killed her son, and yet she went back to him and married him. I'm sorry, I just feel like the mother also let her children down PLUS she left after he started going after her niece. Seems more like a concern about him cheating on her than concern for the child. Something is not clicking with the mother here. And D should be under the jail. He is a monster.

Yes! I understand that at first, seeing someone give your kids love and affection, as well as bring in another paycheck to help you out must have been so refreshing, but girl! Your kids! The signs are there! He had kids of his own and barely saw them, yet he showers yours with love? Once you or your mom finds a bruise or scratch, he immediately tells you that it is your six-year-old son, but didn't think to mention that to you before, only after the marks are discovered? Your six-year-old son who prayed for a baby brother? Always focus on your kids. Never rush into any relationship that offers financial stability, because what happens when that relationship fails too? Then you're back to square one, struggling, a single mother again, but now your kids have traumatic, abusive childhoods. I feel so bad for her as a mother who lost her child, but this happens way too much ladies!

It’s going to be hard not to fault all of the adults for this one Kendal… Eric bless your heart. I’m so incredibly sorry the adults in your life failed you and your little brother. The psychological warfare it must have been to have thought you were responsible. You were not. I hope you are able to find peace in your life. Every single adult in this scenario failed. If you’re a parent that doesn’t trust your significant other around your children, what are you doing? I’m not even surprised social services failed, they fail in damn near every single case. But to marry the person who murdered your son is the big slap in the face. I’m sorry, there’s no excuse. And then subject your only living child back into the abuse? That’s not acceptable. I’m sorry but I am so sick of children being abused and forced to grow up young and deal with trauma, 9 times out of 10, for their abusers to say ahhh you had a good childhood. It’s so psychologically damaging. If you’re going to have children, be a fucking superhero. Because that’s what the damn requirements are. Stop giving half ass to these kids that didn’t ask to be here.

I had the same initial response. I think the problem though is that to her knowledge, Erik wasn’t being directly abused. He was threatened into silence and didn’t tell her and there were no marks to be seen. She was so manipulated and gaslighted herself. Though I honestly can’t fully grasp being so blind to it, unfortunately it happens all the time. She likely came from an abusive home and went straight into another. Left that one into a worse.

It’s so horrible. The thought of losing my little brother (we’re both adults now, but my feelings haven’t changed at all) terrifies me. What Eric has been through sounds like torture. He must be a very strong person to be such a brave advocate for his little brother, especially given the abuse Eric himself suffered. D telling people that Eric hurt Jacob is absolutely horrible, but implanting that possibility in Eric’s own mind is beyond that. It’s cruel, self-serving, sadistic, cowardly and the closest thing to evil I’ve ever heard. Eric is a hero who’s still fighting for Jacob. He’s the kind of big brother all children deserve. you can be, not sure what the specifics are in the states but in Australia, you can be charged and convicted with manslaughter by criminal negligence, which basically means that where there is a established relationship by law, it requires a duty and standard of care for the person, e.g. parent and child relationship. There was a case that the mother was convicted of this offence because her child was being abused and she did nothing when by law she had a duty, and sadly it resulted in the child's death at the abusers hands.

I have to say, to adults in this situation are inexcusable. My husband and his younger brother were abused at the hands of their father for their entire childhood. My husband often wonders how they survived. The fact that his mother stayed and never did a thing to protect those children from that monster is inexcusable. Just like my husband's mother, she had parents who would have helped her. It's pure selfishness for a mother to act...rather, fail to act...for the sake of her babies. When my husband was in his early thirties, he walked away from the abusive relationships from both of his parents and never looked back. To this day, his mother excuses her actions and takes no responsibility for the hell those kids lived through. My husband has experienced tremendous healing in the 20+ years w/o those parents in his life. Our son, now a teenager, has never met his grandparents on his dad's side and is better for it! He's too precious to us to allow that type of corruption in his life. She's living her punishment and now that the father is dead and buried, says she was a victim and had no idea the hate she should've had for him. Yaahhh, it's a little late!

This story is so disturbing. I feel so bad for Eric and I'm sorry your mother neglected to find the true answers about your little brother at the time and that she put you through all that you endured. What amazes me is that she had to know what you were going through but it took your cousin being groomed to actually do anything about it. In my opinion, if a woman wants to put up with abuse, it's one thing, but abusing my children? No. These men have to sleep sometime. I'm so sorry your brother went through that and that your mom went back with that pos afterward. Its unbelieveable that he wasn't prosecuted.

I cannot believe how unbelievably selfish the mother was. I don’t care how abusive your relationship is, she had so many opportunities to leave, yet she kept putting her babies through pain and lost Jacob. My sister and I lived with my grandmother while my mother worked night shifts at the hospital when I was around 9 and my uncle moved in with us at the time. He used to corner my sister and I in the kitchen and scream at us for no reason at all and we were so petrified that we wouldn't leave our room unless he was asleep. It got so bad that one night we began throwing up for hours on end because of the anxiety. I told my mother about it in passing one day and she got up and confronted him about it, before calling my father who told him that if he ever touched us, he was a dead man. We left my grandmother's house that same day and never saw him again until about 11 years later. I found out from my mom that my uncle had raped her sister when they were kids and I always thank God that I had the sense to say something when I did

I think we can all agree that very sadly, if Brenda had left D earlier, Jacob would've been safe. However, I wish people were a little more compassionate for Brenda. She was young--17 when she married, so 24 when Jacob was born? A little more? My dad is a clinically diagnosed narcissist, and growing up with him was a constant mindfuck. The gaslighting, the lying, the emotional and verbal abuse--your reality is completely warped. Abusers will do anything to make you stay--and even when she left, he still stalked her. My own mother stayed with my abusive father because she was afraid she couldn't support us. I wish CPS had stepped in when they had the chance or Brenda had left, but ultimately, D is the abuser and murderer here.
