After divorcing his wife of 20+ years, Mike Reuschel met another woman named Sue, and they quickly hit it off. They got married, and together, they enjoyed the finer things in life: luxury cars, traveling, and more. But when Mike's daughter from his first marriage had a wedding of her own... Well, that didn't go over so well with Sue. The wedding, which was estimated to cost $100,000, went over budget by a LOT, and Sue was not happy about it. So much so that their marriage started to crumble. After taking some time apart, Mike and Sue tried to rekindle things, but Sue just could not get over how much her husband spent on his daughter's wedding. The same night they got into this fight, Sue ended up with several stab wounds, almost ending her life. So, who was responsible for this attack? Was it Mike who first attacked Sue? Or Sue, who first attacked Mike?

That's true, someone can be angry, toxic and have a really bad temper that would cause them to throw things and hit someone, doesn't mean they would go as far as stabbing someone or trying to kill them and someone who has never laid a finger on anyone before can always snap, especially when there is money involved. @@meghanandal3248 I don't think him snapping was about her asking for a divorce or about money. I think it was just that she was a toxic person who was, at the least, mentally and verbally abusive, and that's what made him snap. The asking for a divorce was kind of just incidental. However, I think he definitely did do it. It's the only thing that makes sense. Sue being abusive and Mike stabbing her are not mutually exclusive. Just look at how many situations there are where the genders are reversed, with the man being the abuser, and it eventually ends with the woman killing him.
@sandpiperr

@@jennasmith9115 No motive? You mean besides the abuse? There are plenty of cases where a DV victim ends up murdering their abusive spouse because the abuse messes them up so much that they don't see just leaving as an option. This is another one of them. The idea that he just happened to find her sitting in the guest room with a knife makes no damn sense, nor does the idea that she abruptly slit her wrist after he'd already called 9-1-1, or that they were planning vacations for 3 hours while she had a stab wound! It's obvious that he did try to kill her, probably because he snapped due to the ongoing mental torture she was putting him through, but then backed out when she didn't die quickly.

@@AlexandriaCapri psych degree here ☺️ it actually does make sense and isn’t odd at all. After a divorce, (his first one), it’s EXTREMELY common for people to feel depressed and alone. It’s not surprising or odd that he moved on as fast as he did and that he ignored red flags 🤔🤷‍♀️ There’s often a perception that men aren’t as vulnerable as women but that’s just not the case. He was flattered by the attention and was lonely. It’s also not surprising that he had to choose between his daughter and her. People need to understand coercive control and domestic violence better. It can happen to men too and quite clearly, she was a domestic abuser. It’s hard to understand domestic violence unless you’ve experienced it, but they can get control over your life and mind that you’d never have thought possible. He did it. He was absolutely guilty. Nothing justifies attempting to murder his wife. HOWEVER, the dependency he had on her - that she had created - combined with him likely feeling he had no one else to turn to (common in abuse - even when family WOULD be there, they feel like they’re alone), it sent him into a meltdown 🤔 As I say, he should be held responsible for his actions in her attempted murder, and she should be held accountable for her assaults and abuse of him.

He lied to the police and changed his story after she was able to tell her side of the story. And what sane person would just sit there and talk for hours when the person next to them is bleeding out? It also fits more her narrative that she told him what he wanted to hear jsut to survive. Just because she is an unlikeable character makes her not factual guilty. He went to her room to "talk" to her, when they were already heated. Of course his family is on his side, this proves nothing. People change, especially when they are in a shitty relationship. I think he snapped. Alone because of his first lying and then telling, he sat there hours talking. She had much more severe injuries than him, too.

I think it was the right verdict. The main defense Mike had was just that he had a good reputation amongst his friends and family, but that’s hardly evidence. His story was just too inconsistent, and the main thing against Sue is that her timeline was off, but that doesn’t seem shocking to me if she was attacked and injured to the extent that she was. There was definitely some room for doubt, but not enough to warrant a different verdict.

I genuinely cannot wrap my mind around the uncontrollable rage Sue had regarding the wedding. Yep, that’s a LOT of money to spend. However Sue was not about to be destitute and homeless on the street. It was not going to affect her extremely lavish lifestyle in the slightest. It’s not like her life was destroyed or even altered by the money spent on the wedding. I also don’t understand her continued rage after the wedding. You can’t change the past! What did she think she would accomplish by continuing to hyper fixate on it? Nothing good, clearly.
@AlexandriaCapri

After having been around & lived with rich people, it can't be stressed enough how weird they can get with money, having things their way, etc. There are a lot of ways to spend money, & Sue might have had other thoughts for how it could be spent (or saved, invested, etc.). Money can make people more possessive than they'd normally be. For some, money can 'buy' true security, freedom, the ability not to work, etc. & they don't want to let that go or have that jeopardized. I fully believe Sue took the wedding budget that personally, & I believe Mike on the other hand was legitimately freaked out about losing any amount of his money in a divorce. Both sides were probably feeling intense ownership over the money!

A stepmother who's jealous of her stepdaughters simply for existing, a tale as old as time and as toxic as ever. People like this should never marry anyone who has children. Period. And I agree that the money spent on the stepdaughter's wedding was crazy, but Mike gets to decide how to spend his own money. She was probably pissed off that her own wedding wasn't as extravagant and that the money wasn't spent on *her* . I absolutely think there's no way to know for sure what happened that horrible night but, given her attitude and history I just can't trust a word she says. There's just way too much reasonable doubt for a conviction and 30 year sentence.

To make matters even worse she had her own daughter get on the phone and say the same things to my daughter.

this case seems like more of a gray area to me. as someone who was a victim of abuse for an extended period of time, you really do build a strong hatred and you just feel so shitty, worn down, frustrated, etc. to the point where you could snap like he did. i don't think she was entirely the victim, i think she may have played a role in her own injuries. but this case is really hard to say with complete confidence. but mike's story definitely doesn't add up, and i feel like sue is hiding something, or leaning into being the victim to cover for her own abuse. i think this is one of the cases where the truth is somewhere in the middle because both parties did illegal things they want to cover for.

Good on you Mandi. Some people are just so awful. I have 2 cats. A 20 month old boy called Olly. He’s in my profile picture and an 18 months old girl called Rocket. She only has 3 legs. I got Olly in December 2022. And Rocket in June 2023. Both from a shelter. I keep them indoors and just walk them outdoors on their harness. We feed a bunch of feral cats in and around our neighbourhood. Sadly in Australia trap and release isn’t a thing. But yesterday we have found a young kitty in the colony that is friendly. We managed to get it into a carrier but when my partner went to put the rest of the food in the carrier it got away. We will try again today. If you can save one it will make a huge difference ❤🇦🇺 (Edit: we got the kitty! She went to the shelter today to get whatever treatment she needs and then we will adopt her and give her a home. My partner has called her Panda. She seems very fond of him for some reason. He was able to get her in the carrier easily today. She ran straight up to him)

I think most of her time is dedicated to the documentary she’s working on and being a new mom. Im not making excuses, I’m just giving a different perspective. She also used a third party that did the captioning it wasn’t her team.

@@KandiceArrington22 I know, I'm the one who recommended the Rev service to her. She has a team of how many people, anyways? Josh, Janelle, Corelli, Sydney, the two guys working for Josh, and anyone else I haven't mentioned. She has the money and the resources to make her cases accessible.

This to me seems to be a classic case of reactive abuse that is straight out of a narcissist's handbook. When you mentioned she moved in with him only months after meeting him and then getting a ring on the finger not long after that, I was like, "Yup, narcissist." Then when you mentioned how everyone was like "He was such a chill guy. He would never done something like the abuse she's accusing him of." it's because he's not. Reactive is abuse will make people be like that. Sue probably followed him around the house, poking and yelling and taunting and poking some more at him. She would never let up, never let him walk away and never let him defend himself until he exploded. I had a family member who dealt with someone like this and they were the most chill, mild mannered person you'd ever meet, but then when they got into the relationship with the narc, suddenly we heard about things that were going on, and of course, the narc would cry they were the ones being abused. It was sad.

He should have made her sign a prenup or never let her be anything more than a date and never never let let a gold digger crazy person move into your home.

I’m leaning towards this too. I’ve seen this in my own life with how my mom treated my dad. Pushed and pushed and pushed him. One day when she pulled a knife on him my dad reacted and hit her to get away. She then played victim and told everyone my dad abused her all while leaving out the years and years of her abuse towards him

I saw this case on an episode of 48 hours. The daughter was irritating to watch. There were also the videos from the courtroom... his defense story was crazy! They both had issues and obviously the relationship was very toxic but he is absolutely guilty of this crime.

I'am a local to this area,they always came into our restaurant in our collage town,Mike was beyond one of nicest regulars. I was a young college student at UF and ,recently pregnant and during Christmas break he left his usual tip,then came running back in with 300$ tip and said Merry Christmas...I was so upset seeing this on the news it was so tragic,I believe two things can be true at the same time like she was abusive and Mike snapped....We all originally thought that he planned to take his own life to but then felt guilty and called 911..It's all just deeply tragic

I'm sick and my brain functions are running on low, but I had to rewind this so much to follow along with the timeline these two provided lol it's so convoluted. What an insane case. From start to finish, bad decisions all around. Someone else already said it, but if you marry someone that hates your children, you're a bad parent to your child and you're inviting conflict and turmoil to your family. And that's just the beginning of it!
