When I was 13, my brother was 16. Long story short -he was the nicest person ever. He developed paranoid schizophrenia. And went from that to chasing my father through the house with a axe, because he thought we were all out to get him. There were many many unexplainable behaviors that ended up in a tortured life. He never killed anyone, but he was in a prison in his mind for his entire life. Thanks for covering this. These people aren’t evil, they are sick.

Sounds like he was at the age when paranoid schizophrenia emerges. I worked in mental health and had a man on my caseload who was absolutely convinced that his mother was working with the CIA against him - at one point he punched out her car window and tried to strangle her. When he was hospitalized and medicated, he was completely horrified about what he had done. If this young man has the same illness, he may very well be devastated now if he's been medicated. Tragic.

I had two friends who were both perfectly kind, intelligent, generous people before developing severe paranoid schizophrenia in their mid-twenties. One of them passed away while trying to commit a violent crime against someone who he loved, seemingly on a whim. She doesnt hold it against him and is adamant that it wasnt really "him" who hurt her, because she says in his last days he was too sick to be able to control his actions. My other friend is still alive, but its kind of like he's dead. He went from a funny, sarcastic, chill guy to being scary and violent and not safe to be around. His ex told me that she just feels really bad for him because she knows that hes literally scared out of his mind all the time. She says that inside his head, he's just absolutely terrified and cant understand why. He became convinced that his whole family were conspiring against him and had abused him and committed all kinds of sinister crimes, and he would talk about going to go kill them a lot. Shes safe and she left him and his family knows the situation so that's all anybody can do. Its terrifying that your own brain can just turn on you like that and transform you into a violent threat against those you love the most. Obviously most people with schizophrenia aren't violent-- I know plenty of other people with schizophrenia and similar disorders who are absolutely great and are living life the best they can and dealing with their problems as well as they can deal with them. But I've also known people who have been just utterly destroyed by this disorder, to the point where they are no longer themselves. Its incredibly tragic.

To grow up in a relatively normal family and then kill them, I can't imagine anything other than he really lost his shit for a moment. To believe his family would eat him must've been terrifying for him, and he probly hid some mental illness red flags from his parents, or they were neglected. Perhaps they could've been saved if he was counseled earlier on. Look forward to more details about this case and how it unfolds.

I doubt they neglected him. They are the victims here. He most likely was going through something he didn’t think anyone would listen. Plus Oliver was only 5, he couldn’t have neglected anything and I highly doubt his older sister would let her younger brother be sad if she could help. It sounds like this poor kid was suffering from something he didn’t understand and hopefully he gets some sort of help because thinking your family is gonna eat you after having a relatively nice childhood seems more like a mental health crisis than my family neglected my feelings.

Fabulous as usual Adrian, thank you. This reminds me of the case of Sonny Kim, a 16 year old who killed his sister for no apparent reason, it was a happy and loving home. He intended to kill his parents too, but didn’t reload the gun correctly so they survived. It’s an unusual and fascinating case you may enjoy.

Me and my 11 months old daughter love your videos. We usually listen to them while I am feeding her. Beside being interested in true crime I really love the way you speak. I am trying not to loose too much from my English (sadly I don't have to use it nowadays), and also trying to make my daughter familiar with the language, so thanks for the lessons :)

My theory is that he was a depressed loner who was jealous of his sister and perhaps even thought the parents loved her more of gave her special treatment. I think he knew what he was doing. He didn't kill the visitor because he didn't hate the visitor.

He fired multiple shots at his mom, but the others only once each. The mom was clearly the target of his anger/issues. The others were merely collateral damage. He won’t get to use the insanity plea.

US Geographer here! On Texarkana, a city cannot legally reside within to different states, so what you have here is two cities with the same name on both sides of a state boarder, with separate-unrelated governments. There only a handful of places like this in the US, but they represent nightmares for naming and coding geographers of the US Census and USGS.

I feel bad because I can kind of understand why Caesar felt the way he did. Not justifying his actions, but around that age I developed extreme paranoid delusions. They were episodic but intense and terrifying. Some included my friends and family being replaced by copies that looked identical and wanted to murder me brutally after betraying me. Even when I had lucid moments, it felt real and horrifying but my way of coping with it was by locking myself away until the episode passed. I feel truly awful for his sister who's still surviving but I also hope he gets the help he needs. genuinely sounds delusional and needs treatment.

How terrible for everyone involved. Although schizophrenia is more commonly diagnoised in one's 20s, it can happen in younger people, and is known to develop in some people in their teens. I am not an expert, but this is one of those cases where a medical condition seems likely to be a root cause. I can't image the terror developing the sudden belief my loved ones intended to kill me, nor what steps, in such a state, I might take. Just appallingly sad for all involved.

As a 27-year-old Latino man who grew up in Texas, I'm not sure why someone would kill their own family. There were times when I didn't get along with my father because he wanted me to dress a certain way or to live through tradition and his expectations, but none of that had ever given me any idea of wanting to kill him, then again, we all work in different ways. My mother was a great person, very caring, and was always nice to me and my younger brother, she was born in Texas though, as my father was born in Mexico. Maybe this guy was dealing with a mental illness or was under extreme stress and he cracked under pressure? Being Mexican I can tell you that we definitely do not have it easy, if anything our parents expect us to do better than them, as they were forced to work as they couldn't afford school or they had to drop out due to life getting in the way. They expect us to dress a certain way, act a certain way, and overall, follow their orders and be respectful. As a teen growing up, I pretty much disliked my father, as we got into arguments about tons of trivial things that never mattered in the first place. My taste of music for example was much different than his, as he was into corridos and cumbia, but that type of music never caught my eye. I was more into Slayer, Avicii, Chief Keef, Death, Skrillex, Three6Mafia, and sometimes it would go even further than just music. Sometimes my father disliked the things I would wear, as in graphic metal t-shirts that displayed inverted crosses, death, and war topics, and he would even complain about me stretching my earlobes, as he considered them ugly. Basically, in high school, I was your typical metalhead, who wore everything black and was a nerd who enjoyed comics, video games, and anime, it got to the point where I moved out of my parent's house and decided to stay with a friend for 6 months at his place. Yes, my father would call me from time to time wanting to know where I was, but I wouldn't tell him, and I'd just let him know that I didn't want to be near him for the time being. He would even question my career choices; From wanting to be a bassist in a metal band to being a KZbinr and to disliking the idea of me wanting to be a pro gamer. Even now, he thinks I should be a nurse instead of a computer programmer, but being a nurse doesn't really seem all that interesting to me and programmers make more money. I don't know, as I said before me and my father were complete opposites, but I'd never kill my mother or my father. My younger brother is someone I hold dear to me, so ofc I would never kill him either. If this guy killed his family because he assumed they were going to eat him, then he might be under some mental illness or mental stress, cause none of that makes sense to me. I'm a cool and collected person, always overthinking every aspect of life around me, and to kill my own family I'd have to be under some heavy drug usage to do something that crazy and stupid.
