24:43 - windows drops the keys to the blood here (hear it hit the floor). It's how The Thing got to the blood later on. Also explains why Windows runs for the shotgun when everyone is arguing about who had the keys last, he knows if they find out it was him they'd suspect him of being The Thing. 49:16 - that's Kurt Russell throwing an actual explosive, if you read the history on it, something was wrong w/ the fuse, it was supposed to go off a few seconds later then it did, lucky he threw it when he did or there might not be any more Kurt =( I love small details in movies like that that often get over looked (aka me for like a decade). Also the use of actual flamethrowers on set b/c CGI wasn't a thing yet, /chef's kiss. Something you'd never see in movies nowadays.

The Dog Kennel Sequence was done by Oscar Winning VFX artist Stan Winston Studios after Rob Bottin fell ill with a bleeding ulcer and heat exhaustion. Winston didn't want to recieve credit, until he got "Special Thanks" at the rolling credits.
@mrdavman13
@mrdavman13 19 күн бұрын
Winston actually only made the model of the thing that escaped thru roof and did some of the motion capture for models that Bottin had already made. That is why he felt like he didn’t deserve credit, they essentially ignored the piece that escaped thru the roof after some editing and filming changes.

If you play the Play Station 2 game The Thing, you will eventualy reach the shack where Mc.Ready and Childs ended the movie. And Mc.Ready's body is still there. But Childs body is missing. Then later still, Mc.Readys body disapears too......

Really? You literally know you're going to die no matter what you do, sharing a drink from the same bottle wouldn't matter and you're actively gonna freeze so the alcohol would help. But at the end, a normal person would take a drink. You're going to die anyway, and if he's the thing he's going to kill me anyway. There's literally nothing you could do. I have heard a theory the drink was lighter fluid or some flammable liquid and childs didn't react so that's why mac laughed like he did. In reality, no one knows and no one will know. Lol anybody's theory would work and there is no wrong answer. But I do def think anyone would share that drink when you're essentially accepting your own death.

BEST SCI FI HORROR FILM EVER MADE! It was not well received by critics upon release, calling "Boring, dull, a wretched excess, and a hell of an antidote for ET" as ET was released 2 weeks after the release of THE THING. It was a box office disappointment, making $19 million dollars against a $15 million dollar budget. However it's gained a cult following overtime and has been regarded as one of John Carpenter's best movies ever made. The sound effects of The Thing when it transforms are that of alligators, crocodiles, rattlesnakes, horses, pigs squealing and human screams played backwards or slowed down to make it sound otherworldly and terrifying.

Your wife is right.... Blair, having done the research realized he was infected. Remember the scene from the dog kennel when Blair drew blood from the remaining dogs after they were attacked by the thing. He then analyzed the remaining dogs blood and found how the infection worked on the computer. What he saw on the computer, was on a cellular level. You could be infected and wouldn't even know it. Blair also had a stop watch during that scene, timing the rate of infection from cell to cell, realizing that the remaining dogs were being imitated inside out and it was just a matter of time. He then killed the remaining dogs before full infection. He also realized that he was a part of the 75%... Window said, "hey guys somebody got to the blood" who did, Blair did! Blair picked up the keys after Windows dropped them when he saw Benning being imitated. You can hear the keys drop before he runs out of the room. Everyone is there when Bennings is being burned but Blair. Blair then wrecks the helicopter, after killing the dogs and draining the blood... But how was Blair infected, It was the autopsy, Blair touched it... Fukes said in the helicopter to MacReady after reading Blair's notes, " there are still cellular activities in these burned remains, they are not dead yet". That is why Blair went crazy because he knew he didn't have much time left. (stop watch)... But before Blair could kill himself (the noose he tied in the shack) he transformed, he said, "I'm much better now". Palmer was the first infected and fully imitated. In the beginning the dog went into Palmer's room. Remember the scene when MacReady hit the fire alarm and everybody came out of their rooms. Palmer came out of that room where the dog walked in early that day... Remember Blair said, "So the dog wasn't put into the kennel until last night" He was also wearing those grey long Johns the cook found in the trash can. Palmer also infected Norris... If you ever decide to watch the film again you'll notice Palmer standing next to Norris in several scenes.... Fukes also said to MacReady in the helicopter, reading Blair's notes, that you have to be in close proximity to the infected to also be infected. And Norris was next to Palmer in more scenes than with anyone. In the end it's Childs who is last infected. Did Childs forget not to trust anyone before drinking behind MacReady..no!... Mac already knows that Childs is the thing...that's why he passes him the drink, the same drink he gave to the cheating Chess game...😮
@tranya327
@tranya327 3 ай бұрын
I agree with most of this. The film is deliberately designed so that we don't know who was assimilated when. My own take, is that Blair was taken over and became a full imitation, shortly after he did the combo of running the computer simulations and then reaching for the gun in his desk... If Blair were the thing when he wrecked the radio room, his strategy could have been to force the humans to lock him up in isolation, so that Blair-thing would then have the needed privacy to start building the escape ship. When Blair wrecks the radio room... are we seeing a frightened human trying to ••prevent humans from leaving•• (and carrying the thing-infection with them) ...OR, is it Blair-thing acting, trying to ••prevent a warning•• from reaching the outside world? (If the warning were believed, the superpowers could have responded with nukes on missiles, to destroy the outpost and stop the contagion.). The clues we're given, fit both interpretations; no way to know. :D

The one question to be asked between Mac and Childs at the end, especially with only 1 bottle of booze between them: "Did Palmers pot make it and where is it? One possibility is Nauls. He is just a young man compared to the others. When Mac said, "We're not getting out of here alive....." this had to be very depressing, especially for Nauls. Maybe he knew where Palmer stored his pot and then took it for himself. The last we see of Nauls, he has a goofy stoned smile on his face and begins wandering off toward where the Thing obviously was, and Mac then surmised that Nauls was gone.

21:06 Remember when they found that big hollowed-out block of ice at the norwegian camp and doc theorized maybe they found some animal in the ice and thawed it out? There ya go! 33:54 Yes that is the guy from Dante's Peak. :D Funny, when I saw Dante's Peak, I pointed out "Hey, that's the guy from The Thing" 36:15 Kurt Russell should have played Jesus. :D 38:30 Blair has a noose because he's contemplating ending himself so he doesn't die by being taken over by the thing. Remember, it's an organism that enters into you and proceeds to eat you cellularly and then after it eats you, it pretends to be you. The thing you hate most has eaten you, used the energy and cellular matter to make more of itself, and is using your identity to do the same to everyone you care about. If he ends his life though, he can spare himself that fate. 40:20 It's been revealed in interviews that the thing assimilates the individual, inheriting all the health problems of that individual, such as heart problems. 55:55 You remember the Chess Wizard MacReady was playing chess with earlier? "Check mate, check mate, check mate", And he dumped his icecubes into it because he wasn't going to accept defeat? Symbolism here, this is where The Thing is saying "check mate". And MacReady again won't accept defeat.

Fan pops The infection timeline goes like this Dog thing infects Norris when it walks into the room with the silhouette on the wall Split face infects Bennings Norris infects Palmer Norris or Palmer infect Blair by sabotaging his food drop offs Windows is infected by Palmer during the blood test Clark,Copper, Garry, Fuchs and Nauls die human
@DrJohnnyFever.
@DrJohnnyFever. 3 ай бұрын
We don't know if Palmer or Norris got infected by the dog first. It was a shadow of a crew member so we couldn't guess. Then we saw Bennings get it. Windows got the keys from Garry and dropped them when he saw Bennings so either Palmer or Norris cut open the blood in storage. Then put the keys back in the store room. I think Blair was human and just freaking out because he knew how important it was that it didn't get out. After he was put in the tool shed either Palmer or Norris got to him. The movie doesn't say but Norris had a heart condition which The Thing also perfectly imitated. I think Blair burned Fuchs because he was the only one left that could figure things out. Mac acted in self-defense when he shot Clark. Then Blair gets Garry and Nauls. I thought Childs was human but there are clues that Blair got him. He was falling asleep at the window and when they show the door open the coats and boots are in different places. Also why would Childs leave without telling anyone and leave the door open. Don't believe the gasoline/breath theories. The Thing is a perfect imitation so it would still have warm moist breath and it would know the difference between whiskey and gasoline.

If y'all enjoyed that film and you have not seen Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978) and or the remake Body Snatchers (1993) (or the original 1956, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers--The '78 remake of the '56 film is similar enough it's best to just watch the '78 version and go back to the '56 film if you're really curious, and the '93 version is drastically different so I do always recommend checking that out but after '78...anyway...,) I highly recommend checking it/them out 🙏🏼😊 Also, the 1978 film stars the recently deceased, Donald Sutherland. If you are Donald Sutherland fans also check out Klute (1971,) it might be my favorite of his films--He plays a private detective. 1978's Invasion Of The Body Snatchers has a pretty stacked cast, btw. I do enjoy people recognizing them all on their own tho, so I'll end my overlong sales pitch here 😂

@broodhunter21
@broodhunter21 3 ай бұрын
He's a pretty bad shot" Clearly, you do not know much about shooting. Taking a shot at a moving smaller than man sized target, from a moving, unstable platform like that, not including cold weather gear, would be kind of a miracle by itself. Trying to use a scope in this situation actually makes it worse, not better, as your site picture is smaller and not steady. By the time you saw it in the scope and pulled the trigger, you would be way off target again. Hell for Marine Snipers that would be a near impossible shot. Have you ever noticed how military aircraft have machine guns and electric cannons? Because hitting a ground target while you are moving is crazy hard. You throw an obnoxious amount of lead down range because maybe you will get 1 hit in 50 or so.

Even if that dude was a military sharpshooter he had likely, like MaCready at the end, spent days up with the constant rush of either adrenaline or terror taking it's toll on his sleep deprived body. Add in sighting from a helicopter and a small erratic moving target and that combined explains everything, though this only becomes clear in hindsight.

if the purpose of your goal is to react & enjoy a film for what it is, Why do something counter progressive to that goal like constantly trying to predict the film with endless theories or questions that would hinder the film from entertaining & surprising you ? This process would be better if you comment on what your feeling about the art style, ambiance, dialogue, character development, actors, pacing, rather than what you think, Questions & theories would be best had at the end of the film, but with that said I always enjoy people taking it back to put on a beloved cult classic like the thing, thanks for the video, it was entertaining, maybe a headache in a half, but we got to the end, so take care & GOD bless
