They cycle through their transformations because the stronger the transformation is, the more power it burns through. Same reason for why they keep returning to SSG even though they already achieved blue; SSG is more suited for ki control, techniques and balance while blue is more suited for raw power. Edit: someone in my replies mentioned it too, but another reason they cycle through their transformations is to size their opponents up and have fun. Going full power out of the jump would take all the fun out of the fight for goku, vegeta, or any saiyan for that matter.

Yeah but in this case, especially in the case of goku when he sees he is against such a strong opponent why doesn't he start with one of stronger forms he has. Technique? He could've skipped to red for that one no? Because they have so many forms now, by the nature of how the fights go they have to cycle through their transformations even though sometimes doing that is useless. I think that's a genuine criticism.

@@mefeke7992 goku didnt skip straight to god because he was trying to have fun with the fight (before broly started tweaking when he turned ssj at least, became a fight for survival from that point on ☠️), and he knew broly wasnt a bad guy. it all boils down to how goku is and how broly is; goku (and vegeta too alot of the time) regardless of who they’re fighting, will always start off slow so they can enjoy the fight as much as possible, and that directly goes hand in hand with what i was saying about managing ki and not burning out. At the same time, goku also saw how broly was adapting as he was fighting vegeta so i can pose the argument that going all out right out of the jump wouldn’t have been too smart of an idea. I do think the “too many forms” criticism that yall are coming from has some truth to it tho, and while some older forms feel more and more useless as time goes, they’ll always have SOME degree of usefulness through ki management

These are good points and I agree with them. Even though it's useless the main boys enjoy fighting so they start slow. And the ki management aspect @danielcalixte4639 brings up is also a fair point. I still don't like the idea of it all, because I feel like there used to be variety of tactical moves in this series and there's a drastic decrease in that. The reason Lava doesn't affect them is because of their Ki. Goku explained it when he met Trunks but basically when they are powered up their Ki forms a barrier around them the block anything that isn't powerful enough. It's why truck's sword doesn't work for King Cold, it's why their clothes don't totally burn off when they eat a ki blast and it's why they can take a dunk in Lava. Krillen old totally survive the same way because he has strong Ki control

Goku just wants to have fun and cycles through the transformations so he doesn't burn out too quick. Size up the threat, pull out whatchu need. Have fun while doing so. Goku's Saiyan Blood craves a fight, not a murder. As for things like lava and space? Goku, Vegeta, Broly and Beerus' ki/auras are acting like shields while they fight-you can actually see that in the lava but Vegito did the same thing when he let himself get eaten by Buu before the timer popped.

There’s two reasons they don’t transform to their strongest form right away: -Going full power straight away will drain their energy much quicker -and secondly it’s literally not in their (mainly Goku) nature to go all out. Goku always likes to test his opponent first and gradually increase his strength, he does this in practically every fight.

The jobbing out question 21:30. Is because think of it as this, yes Goku and Vegeta reached 'Blue' but they're essentially generic versions or upstarts in Frieza terms lol. Is cause Broly tho is THE actual Legendary Super Saiyan, in that he doesn't need 'Blue' to run their fade and smear them or 'Golden' Frieza. They needed to add each other's blue forms or 'fuse' to ever hope of hurting him. Hell UI Goku and UE Vegeta would most likely be given a run by a SS2 Broly. 'Black' Frieza idk. To help with some confusion screw the reason why they cycle through power ups is because the higher ones use more ki so if they can win in a lower one they will, but if it’s having no effect they say up it and fuck it. When it comes to environmental things they definitely feel it but due to how much they power up it’ll have little affect to them. Breathe and things like that is similar, but theoretically if the humans or anyone got strong they’d be invulnerable to lava as well

I don't think the transformations are an issue cause I think a lot of people are looking at it worng. Firstly you have the three foundational transformations SSJ1, SSJ2, and SSJ3 and then after that if the warrior can obtain divine KI SSJR and SSJB are achievable. So those are the 5 transformations available to the Saiyans. Now going into the new transformations right these transformations are based on the warrior's character and personality traits and abilities, you have UI, UE, Beast and finally The legendary Saiyan( It being transformation based on genetics, so not every Saiyan can achieve The legendary Saiyan) but for Beast, UI and UE are revolved around their character and personality for example in order for Vegeta to achieve UI he would have to go through an extreme change in character and Vica versa for Goku with UE. Now for the beast form both Goku and Vegeta won't be able to achieve this form due to them both being full-blooded Saiyans but down the road there's a possibility of characters like Trunks, Goten and Pan potentially achieving this. Now I do agree that the writers didn't do a great job preserving the older forms but these new forms are what some of us wanted where character have their own form based on who they are and how they carry themselves.

Because it is goku they are portraying it visually like a transformation and story wise but its just a technique anyone with sufficient talent and power could attain with certain circumstances or training and the concept around the technique have basic forms used as just battle skill by people like master roshi. It's not a mutation like super saiyan transformations which bring forth bodily changes including other races in DragonBall like enhanced muscle mass, density, eye color, hair color , skin color, and changes in body form. UI perfected is portrayed as a transformation it gains eye color and hair color changes like a transformation. The thing is none of the angels have straight silver eyes but a very whited out purple they make it out to be more unique for goku and spectacular when it's just a technique that all the angles can do in there sleep its not locked behind DNA so it's a technique not a transformation because it's something that can be taught to anyone capable not only taught to the same race or achieved through some type of catalyst like anger.

i agree tho my issue with it is with how they handle it Being a "God" has nothing to do with Genetics, Super Saiyan is sort of a forced mutation (in my headcanon), hence why his hair and eyes changes color and his eyebrows disappear (SS3) or even when going Oozaru, with all that said, of course you get a boost in strengh and power but you also get resistence and speed or lose speed (super saiyan grade 2 because you gain extra mass to increase your strength) Being a "God" or being in a God state should just increase your power output, not strength and/or overall physical stats because Goku explained that "Super Saiyan God is just a regular saiyan in God mode, Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan is the Super Saiyan equivalent of a Super Saiyan God", so an attack that would hurt a Super Saiyan, should also Hurt a super saiyan blue because being a god has nothing to do with mutate your body other than physically being younger

Goku cycles through and has many transformations because goku has a martial arts mentality. He approaches is like a grandmaster he learns and refines every move he knows to its limit then pushes it passed that limit. Thats why goku has 800 transformations because he non stop studies and is able to do more cause he is well versed and well rounded think of it like his the highest degree black belt in all his forms and thats why he uses all of them instead of just going for the kill to gage and test and learn how to improve his ability. If you pay attention especially with the Saiyans in dragonball their powers reflect them which is why goku has a bunch of transformations vegetas transformations are stronger than gokus , gohan and trunks are unlimited potential its why they grow so fast. So its really not an ass pull when goku gets a new transformation thats kinda his whole thing pushing forms to the limit and gaining all he can with them and then pushing into something new.

The red hair form should have only been called "Saiyan God", period, THEN have a big fight, almost lose and THEN transform into SSG-Super-Saiyan, and then call BLUE Super-Saiyan-God. To me my idea just seems easier, simpler, and LOGICAL. I hate to agree with Freeza, but remember when Goku tried to explain SSB to Freeza, and even Freeza was like " 🤓.... 🤡....That's just overly complicated and dumb, Goku...you dissapoint me Saiyan" , lol. Giga late to the party but to me the biggest problem with transformations in Dragon Ball isnt necessarily the rate they happen but that they used to represent some kind of growth as a person. A natural consequence of that is that they happen less often aswell. These days transformation is unearned and is usually just a power-up and a recolor. Gohan SSJ2 hits so hard because it signifies Gohans growth from a scared child and pacifist to a fault into a "man"(hes still 11 lmao but y'know). Goku SSJ hits because it represented him accepting his nature after being pushed beyond the edge by the death of his best friend. Where the fuck did this writing go?

Personally for transformations I think it might have been better if goku first turned blue after he realized what zamatsu and goku black did to his family, that also might have given Super sayian God some time to shine especially when golden frieeza first showed up.
