I really really hope he’s okay. Putting his sexuality with alcohol and drugs and saying that his “same sex attraction” was caused from abuse at a young age really concerns me. This might very well be the result of conversion therapy and maybe he doesn’t realize it. I really hope he’s okay.

LA is a tough city to be LGBT in, I've heard. It's big, and there's a lot someone can find, but it's also because it's so big, it's easy to get lost and also over indulge in party culture to determent of self. In many ways, smaller queer communities can be better for some.

The pastor constantly told me being gay was NOTHING to be ashamed of. Even told me my tattoos were fine. Said, and I quote 'yes ,our body is a temple, but some temples have colorful stained glass' his name was Gerald, from the Phoenix Friends Church, and with that being my only church experience, it was the best. No, that’s not true. For the Levitical laws the idea is that homosexuality was a foreign practice and thus was an abomination. The use of the word Arsenokoitai (literally man-bedder) in the Pauline letters (most of which are forgeries) is a direct reference to the Septuagint’s condemnations of homosexuality, and applies to all Christian’s. The problem is not that the Bible secretly doesn’t condemn homosexuality, but that the Bible itself is in error about the nature of reality and has many contradictions in it. It is of no moral value for us because it is a product of pure human origin.

I'm a Christian, but it took most of my life to accept my sexuality because of the puritan culture we're raised in. I am also bisexual, and it took me ages to accept that. I tried to pray the gay away and it didn't work because God made me exactly the way that I am. I feel so sad for the shame he felt because I was there. I felt that for so long. It's a constant looming shadow, and God doesn't want us to feel that way about ourselves. We're supposed to be free of shame because of Christ. There are a lot of cultlike practices in the American church today. It's really the exact opposite of what Jesus intended.

Given that same-sex pairings occur in the rest of nature, notably in species that pair for life, I cannot take seriously any religion that claims their God is all knowing, and all powerful, and also that same-sex pairings are a sin. Either your God made multiple mistakes, or you misunderstand their teachings, both cannot be true. The same argument goes to the idea women should be punished for Eve's sin, given that God made Eve knowing she was going to eat the fruit, thus her eating the fruit was His choice, not hers, and thus women are being persecuted without fault. Anyway, "some animals are gay, get over it" is, I think, the crux (pun intended) of my comment.

Sometimes I feel like people that find themselves early almost have this nagging at the back of their kind that, because they are similar to their younger selves, they haven’t matured. Really, they just happened to be lucky in finding certain important parts of their life early on (family situation notwithstanding). So an opportunity to make a big shift comes, whether from a new peer group, new school, new area, any number of things, and especially after a low point in their life, and they dive head first without a second thought. They feel they are going downhill, find people that give an “answer”, and hold on for dear life. I hope he’s ok, I hope he finds what he needs including peace within himself.

Turning away completely from sexuality, and sex etc doesn’t seem that far fetched when you put yourself out there, and end up in a position you never thought you’d be in. I hope he’s ok. I might understand some of his language more (rejecting distracting things like money and drugs that were hurting him) if he was turning to Buddhism. But Christianity breeds fear and hate, and relies on fear (what happens if you don’t “”accept Christ””) versus trying to find peace and reduce suffering

I’ve had a similar journey in “finding Christ” and becoming a “born again” Christian. I never fully renounced my sexuality (gay) because I never really understood “why” it’s consider as grave of a sin as murder or stealing. I’ve also always had concerns about the Bible itself. Not just the text, but if the text is accurate. When translating meaning from one language to another, there is bound to be something “lost in translation”. Not to mention power leads to corruption and theirs history of people running the church and leaders of religions. It might sound like I’m making up excuses to not confront my sinful nature, but I feel like if a faith is truly me making such dramatic changes to myself, I need to have a strong belief that it’s REAL. I feel like we don’t put a “burden of truth” to religion only because of the amount of indoctrination we put through in our culture groups (God is love. Never doubt God or you’ll go to Hell). I believe Religion shouldn’t be a substitute for ignorance, but a vessel for truth and I just don’t see that.

Couldn’t agree more. As Marx put it religion is the opium of the people, the spirit of a soulless world. What an amazing observation. Religion is used by desperate people to comfort themselves and by the greedy that have everything to gain by utilizing its powers. It’s been this was since the ancient pagan cults of the gods and it continues this way till today. Hitchens has noted that religion will be with us until we no longer fear death, which will probably be for a long time. But it’s still useful to attack jt for its emptiness, it’s delusion, it’s error, and it’s capriciousness.

What an absurd comment.

I think it is creepy for people to stalk his mom’s page like that but overall, gay people are living through their sexual revolution like straights did in the 60s. There will be some auto correction as they realize sex doesn’t really solve any issues. I like that lohanthony denounced both heteron and homo lust but I don’t like it if he really tries to become straight. Hopefully he finds a connection beyond lust in the army

He seemed unhappy with who he was and he's doing something that makes him happy now. People are allowed to not like being gay if they want to. Freewill and all that. He's an adult let him hate being gay if he wants 🤷‍♀ As for this being dangerous for children to see, that's not his responsibility. I'm not even a Christian, I'm just tired of people trying to control strangers' lives on the internet.

I don't understand why unbeliervers can't understand that homosexuality is considered a sin according to many religions. If a person's religion says something is wrong, who are you, especially if you are an atheist to say that is crazy or wrong. What grounds are you making such a judgement? For them their creator or higher power has regarded it as sinful. You having no basis for morality aka relative morality, have no right to tell someone wih a different worldview as wrong as you have no basis for your worldview.
