I don't know what mega churches he's talking about but I've never experienced this. Sounds definitely like a violation of 2 Corinthians 9:7. I would steer clear of any church that makes you show a paystub or demands an auto draft. But also know that this is far from the norm.

I didn't listen to the vid, only commented because it's impossible unaffiliated churches remotely approach the tax monies coming to many of the large denominational churches through NGOs

But what makes it a sin exactly? It relies exclusively on the authority of the bible, its a fundamentally broken set of values.

What "conservative mega churches" is he talking about? I've yet to encounter a mega church that did conservative things like sound biblical preaching, honest straightforward worship and gospel outreach.

He means politically conservative. Like, Trumper churches that occasionally have unplanned crowd chants of "drill baby drill!" and openly fly Palin campaign posters. My family is politically conservative but that stuff had us moving to smaller, more traditional churches that were less political- and much more conservative, as you mean it.

Conservative Christian judgmentalism is terrible in its own right but this loosy-goosy; do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law is just as bad in its own right.

Ive always tithed 10%. I have never been forced. God has alwYs taken care of my needa and blessed me with more than i needed at times. you can't out give God. This is crazy story though. To be a member of my church, you can't be in open sin. Drinking,fornication, smoking ,gambling, homosexual etc ( all are welcomed but we expect members to properly represent Christ )

I have heard of this happening, but never experienced it myself. If I ever went through what you described, at THIS present stage in my life, I’d probably tell the church that it’s none of their (expletive?) business how much money I make, nor are my bank details their business. At present, when I put a check in the envelope, the church will have my bank details, but a recurring “draft” would not be possible without specific paperwork.

I have NEVER seen a large church do what he is talking about here. I have never seen any church ask for your pay stub, or anything like that, but not saying that might not happen, just never seen it with some larger churches I have attended and been a guest at. Plus, the people that are asking you to lunch to be your friend, they probably DO want to be your friend and that is awesome to have!

Churches should be taxed. Also you cannot just follow the parts of the Religion you like just because some of it's not popular right now. Either roll with your beliefs or find a new Religion.

Not just megachurches. When I first moved to the town I live in now I payed a visit to the local church of the same denomination I'd been going to in the small town where I grew up. All they were interested in was getting me signed up as a member so they could get me set up with a donation schedule, etc. Never went back. And nobody gets an automatic 10% from me. First it has to be shown it's going to properly managed and used appropriately. Our old church went through the budget quarterly, accounting for every single dollar received and where it went and for what purpose. But I've long given up on traditional churches. There's a group I work with that does community work. No donations, no buildings, no ministers, no budget. Just us and work that needs doing. We don't care if you follow any specific belief, so long as you're respectful and willing to help.

Plus, I imagine if anyone ever wants to stop contributing, they have to go and tell them to stop taking the money - I'm sure many are too embarrassed to do this, even if they stop attending the church, so the money just keeps rolling in... Gotta be careful bashing tithing too much though. Yeah, it's Old Testament, not New, but, technically, New says everything belongs to God (God - not the church - there is a distinction), and not just money and possessions, but our time, talents, our relationships, our hopes, desires and dreams all have to be on the table and trust God to do with them as He pleases - that's what faith is. Financially supporting people to do full-time ministry is biblical (Acts 6), although I personally think Paul did it better by supporting himself and never taking anything from anyone. I've always felt tithing was a good guideline, but, no, not a requirement. Remember, church membership isn't a spiritual thing - doesn't get you into heaven or make you a Christian, and "church membership" didn't even exist in bible days. Membership is part of the business end of a church. It typically allows you to vote on things like bylaws and elect board members, or even serve on the board. Some churches make it a requirement to teach a class. Most churches, though, you can attend your whole life, take part in activities, and most places even volunteer for things and help out without ever becoming a member. Given that, requiring some financial support from members isn't inherently bad, since membership gives you a say in how things are run. (I've been part of many churches that "required" tithing from members, but have never seen it either policed or enforced, nor was disclosing how much I made ever even brought up). Attending a church vs joining as a member is kinda like subscribing to a youtube channel vs joining its patreon.

@TheFoxchild
@TheFoxchild 28 күн бұрын
@@andrewberdahl9922 Only sounds dumb if you didn't create all of reality. Look, no one can prove that God exists, and no one can prove that He doesn't. That's just being intellectually honest. I've found that those who definitively state that God does or doesn't exist are those who have DECIDED to believe that, and that decision is typically based more on emotion than reason.

Im amazed how wrong and angry you are. If you dont like mega churches then ok, but mocking the people who may be legitimately reaching out, saying that a sermon against homosexuality is a "hate" message, and that these churches just care about money is wrong. Also, your painting with a wide brush. Sounds like the church you attended was a "word of faith" or "prosperity" church which is unbiblical and against what a church should be focusing on. Sorry for your previous experience which sounds aweful, but not every church is that way.
