Hola, Jose. you out did yourself in today's episode. Wow. You brought me to tears. I have been living in Morelia for the past 6 months. I am a retired American, female, worked all my life as a single mom with 4 children. Luckily, I made good decisions. I am able to move down here. When you talked about the trauma due to living in the United States, it resonated with me. I love the Mexican people like I have never loved any other people in this world, but I am still recovering from PTSD, because I lived in hostile and angry America. I learn to be calm, sweet, be quiet, trust others, and not to be so defensive. I am truly a better person for moving to Mexico. I have so much joy and peace within myself. Thanks, Jose.

He sure did! I am happy to hear that you are living in Morelia, as that is the place that I plan to get to in 2-5 yrs, and I've never even visited. I've researched much about it, and the climate is very appealing to me. I've lived in Texas my whole life and I can't do 7 months of summer every year anymore. I intend to visit Morelia in 2025, even if just for a long weekend. Blessings on your new life!

@@caropbb i know. Unfortunately, it's getting expensive to move, liive,. and immigrate to Mexico. One has to show proof of income now up to 4500usd per month. It's cheaper to live here but more expensive for residency. Merida weather is a bit too hot for me but I'm able to visit central Mexico in the off season which has much more moderate temperatures. You should at least pay a visit.

Many of us are miserable in the USA & Canada because they are individualistic societies. It's the live to work mentality rather than the work to live mentality like in Mexico. If you are single, do not have a large, extended, loving family or a large network of good friends, it's very lonely. People don't greet each other and your neighbours turn away when they see you. Mexico does not seem like that at all. Even as a gringo, whether you are black, white or yellow, red, green or purple, most Mexicans will embrace you. The energy of the culture and the beautiful scenery and sunshine. The other expats are also looking to meet people and make friends so it's seems easier to make social connections. That is the joy in life that many of us are seeking. Mexico is not perfect and there is no perfect country in this earth. Only God is perfect. But if you can find the place that meets your basic needs and you can afford to live there, it's a major blessing! I am not retirement age yet, I'm in my 40's, but I would move to Mexico in a heartbeat if I could!

Now, I would like to rebut part of your argument. You claimed that younger generations are working on themselves introspectively. My friend, I don’t know if you’ve spent much time with teenagers and young adults recently, but all they seem to want to do is watch videos or make videos, often focused on dancing or trivial content. In Mexico, just about five years ago, there was a viral video of a teenager who said, “I just quit high school. High school is worthless, I’m just going to do KZbin.” She was essentially encouraging everyone to drop out of school. That’s the mindset of much of the new generation, where education is devalued, and instant fame or social media success is glorified. Secondly, you mentioned that people have been lied to, believing that by the time they reach 65 or 67, they will find happiness or fulfillment. Sir, that was never the true intention. Historically, most people didn’t live much beyond 70. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global average life expectancy around 1960 was only 52 years. Thanks to advancements in science and healthcare, people are now living longer, with the global life expectancy reaching about 73 years in 2021. However, the idea that reaching retirement age will bring happiness is flawed. Retirement programs were designed to support people during the final years of their lives when they were no longer able to work, not to guarantee happiness. Today, due to longer life expectancies, many people continue working beyond retirement age because, quite frankly, they have to-there’s no longer a “natural” end as people live longer and, in some cases, outlive their savings. Additionally, you are addressing Americans, but consider the situation from the Mexican perspective. In Mexico, a large number of older people work on the streets, not because they want to, but because they can't find formal employment. Data from Mexico’s National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) shows that nearly 30% of the elderly population remains in the workforce because they cannot afford to retire. Age discrimination is legal in Mexico, and once you turn 40, it becomes nearly impossible to find a payroll job. So, older Mexicans are left with no choice but to work until their last days. Meanwhile, many Americans retire and move to Mexico, expecting to live a good life at a fraction of the cost. Don’t you think that’s a bit unfair? While Mexicans are forced to keep working in harsh conditions, some Americans expect to enjoy their retirement on the backs of a cheaper economy.

The trend of Gen Z devaluing education and opting for trivial things is everywhere, but I see Mexico being in general 20-30 years behind socially so the values are generally more antiquated. Family values are stronger and there is less reliance on electronics to keep kids entertained growing up. I agree. Life is unfair. It's unfair for innocent people to live in war torn countries like Ukraine and the Gaza, while greedy and power-struck leaders seek to steal, kill, and destroy (like devils). My heart breaks for those people. All we can do is pray for them, send donations when I can, and elect leaders who can help sort out the political issues in this world. At least Mexicans are living in peace. I agree that older Mexicans are working longer just like in the developed world because they have to. But in many ways, I see them better off, not economically, but emotionally. The social connections they have with their late teens extended family, values and often, faith make them in better position the lonely, elderly in the more prosperous countries, who are left looking out the window from a nursing home, if they are lucky. There is evidence that working to some extent in retirement, especially if you enjoy what you do, is actually good for physical and emotional health. When foreigners of all ages move to Mexico, they bring some of their economy with them and often emply Mexicans to help them, offering them a better income and working conditions. What I see in Mexico is people working with "gusto"; I've never seen people so happy to work before. I find it so inspiring. Many are so talented and use theirs skills to do whatever they can to make a living. I've been to other less developed countries where the people are just hanging around waiting for handouts. I don't get that sense from Mexicans. This is a fallen world. There is no perfectly fair situation on this earth; we have to wait for heaven for that, if we are so blessed.

Legally, yes. Culturally, I doubt it. If you bring your religion or lack thereof beliefs up, you will probably repel a lot of Mexicans. Should you keep all that to yourself, you will probably won't have problems.

Hello, you can be whatever you want ti be in México. I am a very strong atheist, and move here from the United States, the people are fantastic, no body forces you to believe in his or her god. I don't go around saying bad things about those who choose to believe. As a matter of fact, because I am post atheist , I enjoy sitting in the beautiful cathedrals. I don't notice the images. I see them as super heroes, just like batman and superman. A cathedral for me is like a museum with a bunch of waxed images.

People believe whatever they believe, I am NOT Catholic and I love going into the Cathedrals in Mexico the ART alone is outstanding! I went to Europe and toured may old buildings including Churches, but I think Mexico has awesome ART inside all of their old structures and of course the spent a lot of time and money creating these amazing structures.
