I was prescribed ozempic for weight loss as I had gained huge amounts of weight as a side effect of psychiatric medications. I endured terrible nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea with ozempic and I came to the conclusion that it wasn’t for me so I stopped using it. What helped me with that decision is the fact that the weight would come back as soon as I stopped the treatment. Nobody is talking about high possibility of the weight coming back after the cessation of Ozempic. It’s just not sustainable. I started doing intermittent fasting instead and have lost 10lbs so far, it’s taking longer for sure but this can be my new lifestyle.. it’s easy, doesn’t cost anything and it’s sustainable.

There's definitely moral failing, but not from people who have a diagnosis of being overweight or obese, insulin resistant or diabetic. It's on part of the people who are taking those meds to satisfy their vanity and indulgence, while depriving the people who need it, WHO ACTUALLY NEED IT, from getting it. There's a problem with self-control too, but again, it's the people who have no problem leveraging their financial power to do anything regardless of how immoral it is of a thing to do. I swear this makes me nauseous and on the verge of crying.

I am so glad that you mention about the “quick fix”. Gastric bypass, ozempic, etc. have side effects that people don’t realize. I have operated on patients after gastric bypass surgery and ozempic who have such malabsorption of nutrients that their tissue quality is affected and is very poor. It is like sewing on wet toilet paper. I hope that more people research this and make sure that they keep up with good nutrition.

Thank you for pointing out weight issues aren't always about a lack of self control. As a Type 1 Diabetic that also has Rheumatoid Arthritis, my weight has been very difficult to manage for several years now, even under the regular care of doctors and on a 1200 calorie a day diet. It's incredibly discouraging when doctors, people who should know better, that are new in my circle of physicians I have to visit simplistically say, "Lose weight," before they even look at my records and notes from previous doctors on what we've tried already to make that happen. It's even worse to hear members of society at large (especially people in the church) share their thoughts. Keep up the great work and thank you for all you do to inform people through your videos. ❤️

You deserve a lot of respect for trying so hard, imo. It's incredible presumptuous for healthy people, to judge someone with chronic health issues. Don't let them get you down 🌻

Many people, including MANY legitimate physicians and scientists, are opening their eyes to the food pyramid and even the ADA diet recommends. Higher fat combined with protein and lower carbs/sugar has helped many people lose weight, decrease inflammation, increase energy levels, and for me personally, better moods. This is great!! I am post menopause and was gaining weight like crazy and my face was breaking out badly. I was working out and not eating badly (not perfect). I was healthy but hormonally a mess. My doctor referred me to the weight management program - we talked over many options. We settled on Wegovy, but it wasn't available so I started on Ozempic. I am 10 months in and have just lost 50 pounds. I lost 15 quickly but stalled. I decided to join ww - started following the diabetic ww plan. I have been on 3 trips, holidays, etc. It is NOT an easy drug to take - took 4 months for my body to get somewhat used to it. I still have a bad day after the injection. I also have alot of GI issues if I eat poorly. I do not dare drink alcohol. I have had a weight issue my whole life . . . I am hoping that I am making the changes with ww to help with the future. The drug does start to wear off about 5 days in and the appetite does come back and that is when I just follow program and/or decide to splurge a little (hamburger and fries at Hardees). It is a commitment that alot of people won't make. I sometimes miss my old eating self. I meal prep, etc. What I do like about the meds is it doesn't make you hyper and that feeling on speed like other weight loss pills. If anything it makes you fatigued. It is NOT a quick fix and it doesn't work for everyone.

I'm taking Wegovy and look younger since I lost 40 pounds. A chubby face wasn't cute on me and made me look older. I'm not experiencing rapid weight loss since getting on the maximum dose. I did lose a little faster while ramping up due to some of the side effects but now I'm at 1 pound per week while on a reasonable weight loss eating plan. I know you say that there isn't spot weight loss, but I've lost more off of waist than I have in previous weight loss but I think that is because it's controlling my insulin resistance. 👍

Thank you for making this video from a nurse. There is a shortage of the drugs you mentioned as well as others like Mounjaro. They are really helping people who NEED them. My hope is that more insurance companies will cover these drugs for obesity alone (before developing other related medical conditions) because many cannot afford them without that. It is unfortunate that those who can easily afford to pay those exorbitant prices out of pocket are abusing them for vanity purposes.

Amen! I guess those that have the money to pay out of pocket don’t think of those who actually have medical conditions that need it. Something really needs to be done about that! They can get their prescriptions online with an online doctor who is just there to make money. Seems like medical malpractice for prescriptions to be written for those who are at a normal weight and BMI just so they can get in that “dress” or thinner summer body. How would they even know that they’re prescribing it for someone who is already Anorexic or has Bulimia. Thank you Hollywood for reinforcing the unrealistic body image to those don’t need it or have an issue.

30 lbs isn't going to do it unless you have really inelastic or dry skin. I didn't get the "loose face" until I had gotten to the 95lb mark. After 100lbs I started noticing quite a bit of changes. (In my body I started to have the skin infections in the loose skin after about 60 lbs) Now, at 140lbs lost I have found that serious moisturizers and "compression garments" are helping my tummy and jawline to re-firm somewhat. It is all about helping the elasticity of the skin and fighting gravity when possible.

Thanks, Dr. Dray. My daughter's mother-in-law has been on Ozempic for several months; nearly a year. She is one who is taking it appropriately and with appropriate care and oversight, and after many years of her insulin resistance being ignored by her prior doctor. Her blood sugar tests apparently didn't show the insulin resistance, but when the new doc tested her actual insulin, she found her to be a candidate for Ozempic. She's lost 65 pounds; it has been slow. She now can sleep at night (because of her insulin being balanced), which I have some trouble with. So I was looking into it and saw the headlines about the face and wondered about that. I appreciate your videos and so I listened to this one. Yes, that makes total sense about how losing a lot of weight would affect your face. I've seen that in people who have bariatric surgery. Thank you for clarifying. FWIW, my daughter's MIL also takes metformin and has made the changes to her diet and she exercises. (Though she did try diet and exercise before and it was the Ozempic that made the final difference for her.) So your point about it not being just a "drop weight drug" is appreciated. I'm bummed that people are just using it for completely aesthetic reasons. There are those out there who have struggled for years and who need the drug, and now there is a shortage because it's been snapped up by those with the money to pay cash and who are just using it as you say, "to get that summer-ready body."

I had type 2 diabetes. I learned to chew my food and change my food to fresh whole foods and lean meats. I weight lift and do a cardio on my off days from lifting. My a1c dropped significantly my bmi changed some but instead of fat I have toned muscle. I'm not longer diabetic and I used no medication for it. It felt like forever of no results then after several months I finally looked in the mirror and saw a dramatic change. It can be done, you just have to do the work. People don't become obese or diabetic overnight, and it certainly cannot be reversed overnight either. And for the record resistance training eventually rids of the loose skin while cutting unnatural sugars that are added to foods.

Dr Dray you are honest and follow the science, thank you for a great video again. Could you please do an update on Red Lite therapy? Is it safe to use a home Red Lite panel everyday of the week. I have heard rumor that it could cause fat loss in your face. I use a Mito Pro panel everyday for 15 minutes. Thanks for your help. Have a wonderful day. I was also diagnosed with osteoporosis and hoping it can help.

I haven't used Ozempic, but I lost a significant amount of weight in a relatively short time, and I too have noticed my skin is a little less plump when compared to other 25 year olds. Losing weight was one of the best decisions in my life, however I still kinda miss my chubby babyface ahah

THANK YOU! I asked before it becomes buzzy for Ozempic as I was really struggling to lose my post partum weight and was becoming prediabetic. It helped kick me into gear and prevented me from becoming diabetic. It also helped CHANGE my thinking pattern and obsession with food. It's showing to help addiction now too which I think is amazing. To me it was miraculous to not think obsessively about food and feel FULL. I've been off of it and am still doing well. And yes you DO have to put in the work and deal with side effects.

THANK YOU FOR PREACHING ABOUT HOW OBESITY IS NOT A MORAL FAILING!!! With fatphobic comments and views STILL being considered appropriate the more healthcare professionals and thin people acknowledge that it exists and that it's not ok the better off we will be! Also, I was SO confused about "Ozempic Face" because to me (as someone who has experienced it) it looks like "Weightloss Face". This is what happens when you lose weight!

Fatphobia is such a woke sounding word. A phobia is a irrational fear. Obesiry should never be normalised or as seen as beautyful. Diabetes is not sexy, kidney feature and impaired eyesight is not fatphobic, shortness or breath or affected joints is not cool. Most cases of obesity is not related to bad genes, diseases or medications but actual life style choices. Medications have side effects. But people are to lazy to address the root cause and prefer an easy fix.

Thank you so much for this. I have had weight loss surgery and I’m glad I did, but I’m sad that I waited for so long because lots of ppl kept trying to talk me out of it, because of the risks. They never talked about the risks of me being 150 lbs overweight. I was very scared of the surgery, so au was easily influenced by their reactions. It seemed so simple in their minds for me to loose weight, because they never had weight issues. This weekend, at a family dinner, we talked about Ozempic and my mother said that if that drug was available then, prior to surgery, she would have totally been supportive of me taking it. My sister was a little baffled, saying that there are side effects, bla bla, that ppl shouldn’t be taking it. I had the same answer, what do you think the risks of being overweight is? What are the other options? Surgeries? What’s more risky? Studies have shown that only 5% those with big amounts of weight to lose, who lose it manage to keep it off. I know lots of ppl who have had surgeries who barely lost anything or gained a lot back. It’s the same with Ozempic. Time will tell but I would have rather have had the option of taking Ozempic, I find it less drastic and risky than surgery.

You probably would not have loss all the weight you need to on just ozempic and also you would have to be on a rather expensive treatment for life. I think even now you did the right thing by having surgery.

You never disappoint and you are always on the side of integrity.

There has been a shortage in the availability of both Ozempic or Wagovy, and now I wonder if it’s because so many people are getting prescribed it just to lose a couple of pounds. This takes away the availability of these medications for those of us who need it. I have been unable to get the medication myself (pre-diabetic) for the last 5 months, unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that. I'd hope that good Dr's would use this for the morbidly obese that would have medical complications if they don't drop a substantial amount of weight. Not to lose a few for cosmetic purposes. That's exactly what my Dr said, it's wonderfully effective but only to be used by those who really need it.

Dr Drey said it's for BMI 27 and up. Look around, we have epidemic of Diabetes and higher BMI. Therefore, the moment it got FDA approval, it was going to be prescribed on large scale, leading to shortages. I highly doubt that at these prices, average earners will be able to create shortage or that doctors prescribe these meds for few lbs loss.

I’ve suffered from hypothyroidism and PCOS along with long term intense stress which all together have shut down my whole body and caused early menopause at 42. I’ve always been told to just lose the weight. 🙄 I eat very healthy, do IF as well as a light Keto. Finally a doctor listened to me and offered Ozempic but I wanted to start with something that will jumpstart my metabolism and give me energy, so I’m on speed. Lol. Taking phentermine and it’s helped me to get through the day but by no means do I have a racing heart or jitters. Btw, I get migraines when overdo exercise so I walk and now roller skate. I’ve got 100lbs to lose and am grateful for meds that help the journey.

Hi Dr. Dray! Thank you so much for addressing this medication and mostly, addressing obesity in a respectful and educated way. Besides much of society, I’ve had medical professionals/MD’s who judge and don’t get it. Many of us who have obesity don’t chose to be this way. I probably know more about nutrition than many nutritionists! The verbiage that some professionals use makes an already humiliated person more humiliated. Humiliating someone won’t make them lose weight. I have PSOC and all the “wonderful” things that go along with it. I always told my doctors I don’t want to be the bearded fat lady at the sideshow! After my third child, I just couldn’t keep the weight in control. I went on the low fat craze way back and gained weight. Too many carbs in those to make the products remotely tasty. You name it, I’ve been on it. I am insulin resistant and just at the border of pre diabetes. A1C of 5.7. I work at it though, along with Metformin. I’ve contemplated gastric sleeve surgery as a tool. I’d rather take a medication though. I have autoimmune conditions. Psoriatic Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Sjogrens, Raynauds and have extensive back, neck and knee problems and of course it affects my hands as it does my back. Some of the more rude professionals as well as others say “Just exercise”, “go walk at least”. If I could I would. I had to have a ramp built because I could no longer go up and down my steps and falls were getting more serious. Even with pain meds , it only makes the pain bearable. I’m starving myself to get my weight down so I can start in my total knee replacements. Thanks to long COVID affecting my GI tract, I went through a month of vomiting and couldn’t eat. The only good thing about it was that I lost weight. I had lost only 6lbs before that. I’m limited to what I can eat now, but I choose to keep my carb count down as that’s the only way I’ve lost weight in the past. Basically, I’m eating the amounts I would as if I’ve had Gastric Sleeve. Yes, I’m hungry and yes the hunger hurts and sometimes makes me vomit. I’m desperate to get new knees. I’m seeing a doctor next week about one of the medications discussed, but even if my insurance approved it, it probably won’t be available. There are a couple stomach meds I’m supposed to be taking since COVID wrecked my stomach but they’re not available anymore either, but not because people taking them who don’t need them! I’m already on Humira and Injections of Methotrexate, so one more little shot wouldn’t bother me. Lol I just wish more medical personnel were as knowledgeable as you are and it’s not even your specialty! I can’t imagine you telling anyone ….”well it’s because you’re fat”! Or “if you weren’t so fat…..”, to a nerve conduction study pushing the electrodes so deep and turn it up so high, that I bruise and about can’t take the pain. The tech doing it said “I have to do it like that because your arms are so fat”! Some were never taught to be tactful and about bedside manor. It’s like they’re trying to tell you something you don’t already know about yourself! I worked in the ED and Birthing Center for 25 years and never would have said some of the things I’ve been told. I also felt I had to work harder and be better than others just to prove I could do the job and I was just as smart as the thin workers. All my jobs I’ve felt like I had to do that with any job I’ve had. I didn’t want to be stereotyped. I work 12 hr night shifts all those years and I continued to work till I couldn’t physically anymore. When it takes 30 min just to get out of the car and up steps into the house, while crying with each step being worse that the one before. That was to also prove my worth. Now I know my worth isn’t in what size I am or how good I was at whatever I was doing. It’s taken a lot of years for society and medical professionals to see a little different and not just lump all us “fatties” into the same pot.

I agree. I believe often times people don't realize that while losing weight can be a quick fix via surgery and/or medications, keeping the weight off NEVER IS. The only way to maintain the weight loss is through permanent lifestyle changes and that is extremely hard to do. Unless the person is extremely disciplined and able to control their impulses and themselves, the weight that was lost will come back. Unfortunately in this society, not many people are willing to put in the hard work that is required and will blame their failures on a myriad of factors other than themselves and their lack of willpower to put in the work that's necessary.

I had been taking ozempic for about 8 months last year. I had been pre-diabetic for a while at this point and ozempic was recommended by an endocrinologist. Several months into taking ozempic I started doing different kinds of treatments on my face and body to treat loose skin. I had laser treatments for my face and SMAS lifting for body (upper arms, back and belly), VelaShape for legs. I lost 68 lbs going down from around 200 lbs to 132 lbs. My body and face look good. No sagging or droopiness. The only major side effect for me is that my breasts lost their volume a lot. It doesn’t bother me to the point of making me unhappy with my body. But I do consider breast augmentation later in life. So the point is that a substantial weight los is a lot of work and a big investment. Something you need to do only under doctor’s supervision. And it’s not only the drug, it’s a complete lifestyle change. And you need to treat side effects of weight los in the presses too. Only it’s way you can gain real results.
