Not only that, but when Miles (their podcast producer who really helped them gain a lot of popularity in the podcast world) came to them and said he didn’t have enough time to do his own projects, they tried changing his schedule around to see if they could make it work. When he said it was just too much, they were so supportive of him every step of the way even though they were losing a very talented employee who the fans had come to know and love very much. They still stayed close friends to the point that Miles would come visit them at the office just to hang out whenever he had free time. @artific3r_3 ай бұрын
Part of why 2nd try seems to be so much more successful seems like, in part, because they directly asked dropout and sam reich for tips on what made dropout successful, and also because a lot of other groups trying to do the streaming service bid are doing so with the idea that it will make them more money, whereas try guys and dropout both switched to streaming service for more stability. That's part of it anyway
@heybuddy36162 ай бұрын
youtube audiences, especially on comedic, personality-driven legacy channels like the try guys, college humor/dropout, and even smosh, are VERY used to self-deprecation from the creators imo. stems from the Olden KZbin Days when the word “influencer” didn’t exist, and being a youtuber wasn’t exactly a desirable profession. a common insult back then once a creator “made it big” (usually breaking a sub milestone, selling merch, taking sponsorships, or upgrading video production with sets/editors/etc) was that they had sold out and were only making videos for the money. combine that with previously trendy millennial online humor a la “hey guys, see that trash can? that’s me lol :)” and you get established creators who will preemptively dunk on their own offerings to avoid seeming entitled to their audience’s money or attention. the “cheaper and worse” advertising is a really good example of this, and apart from actual product quality, is one tangible way that dropout/second try succeeded in connecting with their audiences while something like watcher (also a buzzfeed legacy) was so infamously tone-deaf in its presentation and intent, and soured a lot of their audience’s good will.

The depth vs breadth thing is super evident in Ash's new series, which is phenomenal, has a lot of heart, is a celebration of trans-ness and positive masculinity, and absolutely would not have kept the KZbin algorithm fed. I love all the new series and the new cast is wonderful. Definitely worth the $ in my opinion.

I still didn't get that SNL skit, like what was so funny about that, if one thing the person who did something dumb should be the one being made fun off. And I know that maybe there were some people involved in that, but its so dumb.
@CaseyKonstanz3 ай бұрын
Yeah like of all the punchlines that choice was insane. But apparently the writer was a former Yale friend of Neds? Honestly the fact that that got out of the writers room makes me wonder about SNLs workplace culture because yikes.
@excalipoor3 ай бұрын
You could say that the skit was to make fun of internet drama. Even though try guys do watched by a lot of people. But the live tv audience dont necessarily know who they are and fell like what’s the big deal? It’s back to the tv people see internet celebrities as small fry. Try guys is popular, but it’s online so people who like them are about all necessary near you. While people who watch tv, which is still a lot of people, would still don’t know who they are.
@slideshowgurl3 ай бұрын
I think it’s literally because one of Ned’s Yale buddies is a writer at SNL and I believe was credited with that sketch… so… I think that’s why they had such a poor take. Which is unfortunate, because I’m sure that was a lot of people’s first introduction to the Try Guys and it’s such a skewed view of what happened

I've left comments on Try Guy stuff about this.... this is why I wish Zach would talk about cannabinoid Hyperemesis on his show because as fun and safe as pot is, this is a possible outcome especially for chronic heavy users and there is little to no acknowledgement of it beyond the medical community and as someone who suffered from it, it took years before I even knew what was wrong with me....I feel like Zach could do a very informative approachable video on it that could help a lot of people out there.
