A tip for oil paints in tubes and how to store/arrange them for easy visibility, I saw a someone use binder clips on the ends where it's crimped over, to effectively add loops that could then be hung from pegs. As you use the paint in the tube, roll up the end like toothpaste and reclip. Gives a nice visual for when a paint is running low too.
@puffins_apothecary2 жыл бұрын
i used to be a traditional oil painter and this method works great, just make sure your caps are on nice and secure so they dont leak. I used command strips on the outside of my painting cabinet, and hang the clips off of them. Iv used this method for years without any issues.

Totally agree on the chair. I've had one for about twelve years now. Best money ever spent. My best upgrade to my Aeron has been my Atlas headrest (3rd party addon). Look it up, makes the chair oh so comfortable when you want to lean back and relax for a few minutes.

When I was young I didn't have anywhere to paint, so I used to paint lying on the floor with a cushion under my chest for support. I got so used to this that now at 55 I STILL paint lying on the floor with a cushion. Keeps my back dead straight and I've never had any back issues. Additionally it's great for elbow support.

Investing in a proper chair is absolutely the right call! Thanks for pointing that out. I don't know what your chair costs, but if it is good long lasting quality, then it is most certainly worth every penny of it. I got my DX Racer King Size almost a decade ago. During that timespan i would have had to buy several of the cheaper office chairs, becuase they always break down after 1-2 years andfrankly, they are not that comfortable at all anyway. In contrast, my chair is still holding strong. It sure looks worn and well used, but the cussins are still top, the technical parts are working well and I can sit on it propery supported. Yes it's a big chunk up front, but it will pay out in the long run.

I have a lower lumbar back injury that can be pretty nasty pain wise at times. As I’m renovating and building a new dedicated mini painting room I was wondering what to do for the desk. I too like a higher desk for painting and use a sit stand desk currently. It’s cheap and pretty wobbly so I don’t want to use it again. That means I’m thinking either build a dedicated desk or buy a more expensive sit stand one. I’ve considered a chair that can adjust the height for a stationary desk. But I just don’t know if that’s the best as I’m trying to do the “keep legs 90 degrees from butt to floor”. But perhaps that might not matter so much.

Absolutely agree about the higher desk level meaning that you force the body to retain a good posture. I have injury-induced scoliosis, and I found painting at a conventional desk to eventually become incredibly painful after a time; I put a dining chair at the kitchen counter (I live alone, so I’m not inconveniencing anyone else) and it’s much, much better. Hi Jon! For a way to store your Scalecolor Artist paints on the walls you can use a bulletin board and thumb tacks. The filter behind the booth is good enough? Especially if Mr color leveling thinner and what not? I don’t have a window to ventilate my hobby room. Unfold a table and move try paints from the room to the garage every time I use the airbrush and I really don’t want to but some of the stuff I use has strong fumes.
@chillchinna41643 ай бұрын
Belated, but it probably works fine for acrylics, but fumes and toxic materials should absolutely be ventilated properly. The acrylic paint partials will mostly be caught by the filters and all. Fumes don't work the same way.

I do have one question/idea for a video if you haven't already covered it before. How does one start with actually getting paints, with all the different brands and types and even just shades it makes it quite daunting for trying to pick paints even with a colour scheme in mind unless you're willing to just throw money at paints and hope for the best.
