Same here. Not a lot of the things I've been watching lately have good shipping opportunities (ie not enough characters of compatible ages who arent siblings etc and writers warping certain character's whole personailities to make them get together which turns me off from pairing them up in the first place) so I've had to make a lot of my own. When I see two characters from different franchises and think they may have good chemistry, I go explore it more and see what happens. Usually that inclination of a good pairing plays out well and I don't have to butcher the characters to make them get along or fall in love. Sometimes I even dabble in oc x cannon, crafting a love interest for a character that I think best suits their wants and needs when other characters in the cannon can't do the same or aren't interesting when doing so. Its all in good fun, as shipping should be!

Always thought they were more like twins/siblings, but it made for some very cute fan art. In the movie's behind the scenes where the directors(?) had commentary dialogue over the Rise of Guardians film, they even said the original plan was to have a romantic plot between Jack and Toothiana, but ultimately they pulled it out as it took away focus from Jack's story. So they decided to keep the subtle nods of chemistry in, but I belieev they still state the two are canon(?). As someone who shipped something completely different, (and cringe) within the frozen fandom, although the characters were both within the same canon, I do remember Jack Frost and Elsa shippers completely ignoring that Jack and Toothiana fact, that they are technically canon, and some even deliberately fought against it. @LaBellesGraceАй бұрын
Superrr late to the party on this one, but the age thing can be easily explained by William Joyce, the creator of Jack Frost himself. He used to interact with the crossover fandoms back in the day, and has said he really liked Jelsa and thinks it’s fun. Human Jack died as a teenager, however *Jack Frost* is a spirit; he doesn’t technically have an age at all, and having Chris Pine voice hun was meant to exemplify that. Just because he hangs around with children doesn’t mean he’s *literally* a child himself. He’s pretty much ageless, while being centuries old at the same time. Jack was actually meant to have a romantic subplot with Tooth in the movie, but was cut due to time. The subtlety can still be found in their interactions in the Final Cut; mainly on Tooth’s end, however. In the final novel to the book series, it was stated that Jack - as well as the other guardians, particularly North - can change their ages at will due to time and experience as a Guardian/spirit. Jack even has had experiences of having romantic relationships with grown women. This was also a concept that Joyce wanted to explore in a television sequel he wanted to do for the movie, but was turned down due to the movie’s failure - so it would’ve been applicable to movie Jack also. And technically speaking, Jack is much older than Elsa, rather than the other way around. Someone on KZbin did a timeline layout and it basically confirms that human Jack died around 20-30 years before Elsa was born. So if anything, he’ll have the advantages over her. But since she’s a spirit now too, the only thing that’ll stand in their way of being a couple (other than the obvious), would be their compatibility. As long as it’s a slow burn type of thing and constructed correctly, I personality think it could definitely work.

@GhostRose6500 Жыл бұрын
I knew this ship for quite a while now, and I immediately hated it because of the age gap between the 2 characters. And I don’t mean that in the way that Elsa is an adult and Jack is a teenager. I mean Else is a young adult and Jack is freaking 3 centuries old. He is was born 280 years before Elsa was, he is an ancient immortal. Sure Elsa is a spirit now so she may live an immortal life too, and when she lives many centuries both of their ages will be messy enough for it to not really matter. But that doesn’t count because that hasn’t happened yet. She is decades old, and he is centuries.

I suppose most of the reasons why people don't ship jelsa is due to age gap, but other than that, in my perspective, they make quite the interesting pair. Unlike other crack ships, these ones have at least a few reasons to see why it has good dynamics. Both have ice powers and have experienced the same isolation situations, with Elsa pushing people away and Jack being unable to be seen by any except the gaurdians. Jack, he's a charismatic guy who loves fun as shown in the snowballs and such while Elsa seems to take more of a negative and introvert type. In a sense they could bring the both of each other up. Regarding the age timeliness, while people claim that Jack is older, you can see that he's been set in the modern era, whereas Elsa is a queen. You don't get a lot of those around here. Now that she's become a spirit, possibly making her immortal, she could be much older than Jack. Likewise, Jack could have been born around the same period as her, as seen with the hut at the start of the movie. While there is no context about it, it is still quite possible. In other words 🤷♀️ 24-17 is 7 years apart.
@neatoburrito3170 Жыл бұрын
Ew, Jelsa. That's an unpleasant blast from the past. Barring the age difference and incompatible personalities, they don't even look good together. Colors are in that ugly "too similar to properly contrast and too different to match" ballpark and the Disney Bratz doll proportions next to the far less stylized RotG proportions just look so comical, even in skillfully-done edits.
@gabrielleduplessis7388 Жыл бұрын
If you hate these two, you are going to hate the big 4: merida, hiccup, rapunzel, and jack. There’s so much fanfiction over these 4 and it can get pretty interesting seeing the dynamics that play out. Elsa comes in and erupts these dynamics at times adding some drama. Now all I can think about are the tired and frustrated parents trying to have some fun with these franchises.

“Who’s the target audience for this?” 13 year old girls in the 2010s going on Tumblr for the first time fangirling over Jack who eventually grow up. Callimara did a fantastic video that covers the age gap and “controversy” surrounding this ship - if it wasn’t for the fact this ship became so popular, it wouldn’t be getting hated so easily. Everyone focuses on the “superficial side of things” without realising that their powers *is* part of their connection, just as much as them having been isolated from the world after trying to protect their sisters; making them being able to relate to and rely on the other in such a personal way. Shipping Jelsa is completely fine - especially when William Joyce has said himself in the past that he likes it. - sincerely, someone who was a 13 year old girl 10 years ago.

The idea of Elsa having a love interest was something i was always conflicted about. On the one hand, you could make the argument that it kind of goes against one of the points of the character and her appeal, but on the other hand, I think it could work if done right. Like, in Frozen 1 and 2, it makes sense not to give her a love interest, but for Frozen 3, I think you could give her one and make it work. Maybe another Elemental character like her who had the abilities of Fire or Lightning or something like that, and maybe make it apart of her arc, like maybe she realizes while she doesn't want to lose her independence, she also doesn't want to be alone for the rest of life. Which could be an interesting angle, her love interests doesn't even need to be male either, it could be a female instead. With that being said.....Jack Frost x Elsa is stupid. Ignoring that fact that Jack is underage, especially by this point in the timeline, but also, let's face it, I don't think they would like each other that much, if at all. Maybe some physical attraction on Jack's case, but I don't think anything would come of it due to them being polar opposites. I could see them having a platonic brother and sister bond, though.

I really have no problem with crossover ships (heck, I am a Jackunzel and Mericcup shipper lol), and I do get the point why some entertain the idea of Jelsa. Like, ship what you want to ship guys, it's your preference. However, the only thing that annoys me in this ship is how most fans claim or believe they're an actual couple. Jack has been labelled as Elsa's boyfriend for so long when they did not even canonically meet. It's fair when others use an argument when "Eugene's with Rapunzel" or "Astrid is with Hiccup" although I still think shipping is different from canon, but "Elsa is Jack's gf, so no to other pairings" is just annoying when it's never even been the truth.

I agree with every word you said and your share with point of view, for that I truly thank you. I know it can quite disturbing between a kids show and a teenage show later bind themselves chaotically. That is my share of point of view to make your feelings comfortable again.

Yeah I regret shipping Jelsa but I can see why I would like it back then as a teenager. I guess the reason we ship uncertain characters it is based on the chemistry. Hm, fair and valid points and opinions, honestly you really can’t help but to wonder how things like this gets started, I would actually like to know too. But anyway, while I can understand where you’re coming from, I don’t really mind it that much, actually I usually don’t really mind any kind of the whole Shipping thing in-general, so I am not really bothered by any of this, as for what I think if this Ship specifically, I do admit it’s quite intriguing, but nothing beyond that, Also, I usually don’t know Character’s Ages, so that was News to me, but it doesn’t really change my mind about it, to me this Ship is just something that exists and that’s it, Regardless, I do appreciate to hear your opinion about it and I will look forward to see what you will talk about next.

my take on it: before, i was indifferent to it, but now i'm just facepalming because of FUCKING course jack's a teenager. i've never actually watched rise of the guardians so that was VERY new information for me LMAOO i fixate obsessively on the ages of characters in fandoms i'm in, frozen included, because as a fanfic writer myself. it's important for me to get in their heads properly, and an eighteen-year-old would def think differently from twenty-three, which is how old she was approximately in frozen 2. so, there's the thing. i'm a fanfic writer, so i've seen the great, the good, the bad, and the ugly. obviously you may be able to tell i write rpf fanfic - k-pop, to be specific - and judge me if you'd like, but the point i'm trying to make here is that as awful as it is, i'm honestly not surprised jelsa is normalized when people know how old jack is. like, sometimes i read crackships for the fun of it myself - there is this ABSOLUTELY insane, heart-wrenching barbie x dracula fic out there, it's gold, trust me, and for the kpoppies; once read a singular zb1 gyuvin and jang wonyoung fic that was . . . great - and like you said, there's definitely a certain kind of logic to why they're shipped. but that's just it. to some people, logic = justification for their twisted fantasies. sucks, but it's true. what *I* think about fanfic is this: it's fine, it's more than okay. like some people these days give us all of justifications for why fanfic is not good, this and that, and some people say that these days "teenagers" are obsessed with fanfic. maybe true, but y'know, fanfiction - even rpf - has been around since as early as the 1980s. it's not a bad thing. fanfic is only bad when certain parties - for example, anne rice - say that they disapprove of it. and if fanfic were illegal, do you think k-pop fanfic would thrive as much as it does? the agencies could easily ban us, but they don't. hell, there was essentially a fanfic competition recently on a k-pop socmed platform for a group called enhypen (i did not enjoy it). what i'm getting at is this: fanfic is a form of creative expression for us. we take the things - or people - we love and turn it into something that CAN and IS a form of art. sure, some of the outcome isn't great. but the whole world knows about fanfic now, even the people and creators of the things we write them about. (kpoppies, remember when nu'est talked about fanfic written about them years ago?) and maybe i'm gonna get hated on for this, but personally, i don't see why we spend so much time hating on porn fanfics and fanart. just, let it be? they're not REALLY harming anyone. if you think about it, it's essentially a more extended form of thirsting lmaoo. which is a stretch, i know, but over the years i've learned that if you just let it be, then you'll be happier than if you bothered about it so much. not that you can't say it does bother you! you can, just, don't make a HUGE deal out of it, you know? jelsa certainly squicks me out now. but as awful as it is, at the end of the day, it's just another one of the long, long, LONG list of insane things that go on in fanfic rabbit holes. personally not for me, and i certainly do not encourage normalizing this any further, but at this point, how reversible is it, really? i do think we should discourage it. but also, just, go on with our own lives, you know? okay that was a really long rant but y'all get the point

It´s always annoyed me how people ship them even though they are almost the genderbent version of each other, I´m a shipper but for me to ship a couple they got to at least have a bit of chemistry so my favorites are usually those who are very different and unlikely to work together but still somehow they do, and it´s not the case here, if you show like a not so romantic fanart of these two characters to a kid that haven´t watched either of theses movies yet then they will probably think they are siblings, I´d ship Elsa with some fire-bender because of the "opposites attract each other" thing and Jack with some other guardian (the Tooth Fairy wouldn´t work well because of the same reasons you explained)
@QuietlyE10 ай бұрын
I mean, they do ultimately have chemistry. Despite the fact that they're both ice people, they relate to each other in terms of isolation. When it comes to personality, Elsa is pretty much the time to be less charismatic and Jack might bring the joy into her something like that 😂

Huh. So with the age thing in mind, the Jack/Hiccup (yes Hiccup from HTTYD) makes a lot more sense lmao. (The first HTTYD movie anyway.) But also I've just always viewed Elsa and Jack as siblings. It just makes sense to me. Also, also, I've always viewed Jack as 19 or so. Movie Jack at least. To keep me sane if I read a Jelsa fic. These movies were release around the same time, ROTG in 2012 and Frozen in late 2013. Along with Brave (or was Brave in 2010?) and HTTYD in 2012, and Tangled in 2014. That's probably one of the main reasons this started.

I am perfectly fine with this ship yes his body and mentality are stuck as a teenager but legally speaking what makes a relationship legal or not is not based on development physically or mentally yes those are expected to happen, but there are exceptions look at Tatsumaki from one punch man, for example, she is 28 with the body of a 12 to 14-year-old and her mentality leaves a lot to be desired from a 28-year-old. Age is not based on development but on how long you have been on the planet as it revolves around the sun. When dealing with characters who no longer can age you have to remember age as we define it is based on the number of times the earth would have revolved around the sun while they have existed. So Jack's real age is 317 years old so he is not a minor sure he looks and acts like one but based on how age is actually defined he is not a minor.

I can see how Jack Frost X Elsa is popular but I ship Jack Frost with Tooth Fairy and Elsa with Honeymaren. That aside, Jack is a teen of a nonspecific age and Elsa is 21 in Frozen 1 and 24 in Frozen 2.

@Smarty Pants: I can't stand this ship, at all! This garbage shouldn't have been created. Elsa's 21, and Frost's over 300 years old! From her perspective, he's too old for her! And apart from the age difference, there's no way in hell she'd even _consider_ dating him. Frost is beneath Elsa, not worth her time.

Its awkward for me because from me watching Frozen and now have to watch all the frozens on repeat now that i have a kid. Elsa is bare min coded Ace. If not aromantic. Like this ship just feels icky because 1. I know the cannon ages of these characters. 2. It feels like ace/aroman erasing. (I know this one is personal and head canon because there is no "official " status for elsa).

i don't think the culprit is jack's character design at all -- in the movie (not books), he's physically 17/18 and born in colonial america (short life span, probably under-nourished hence the sharper features and skinny silhouette). while jack is a fun-loving, easygoing character, there are moments where we see his emotional depth, maturity, and compassionate heart shine through, and i don't think it would have been conveyed as effectively if he was given a higher-pitched childish voice like many other media portrayals of the mythical jack frost. his voice brings that warm brotherly feel that is so definitive of his character. there are plenty of older teenage boys who sound like him, and even deeper. chris pine was nothing short of brilliant as jack frost. the culprit, in my opinion, is the young frozen fanbase of the early 2010s who had very stereotypical and shallow ideas of romance and decided ice powers and good looks were enough reason to ship jack and elsa together. many jelsa shippers, most gratingly, only care for jack as one half of a ship so that elsa has a boyfriend of her own, no thought given to the idea that maybe they work better as a platonic duo instead, given their individual personalities. the whole thing feels very superficial and heteronormative even without the creepy age difference and creepier fanworks; it is always so uncomfortable seeing all the suggestive content and scenarios of jelsa having children that is so rampant with this ship. both characters are very queer/asexual-coded to me. it calls into question why this level of sexualisation of fictional characters is so normalised in fandom, even characters like jack and elsa who are very unconventional in their approach to relationships. it's not the fault of dreamworks that overly hormonal teenagers lack respect for the artists that lovingly create these characters.
@Piriguin_aweoneke Жыл бұрын
I'm Part of two different fandoms of two different books where one them, the second most popular popular ship (the most popular being the two main characters in a canon romantic relationship) is the siblings of the main characters with each other, both decently important characters of their own in the story but aside from them being the very definition of opposites, personality, political views, morals, etc, they've never, not a single time interacted with one another, being a part of the same universe, knowing, by the end of the book being political family, being in the same scene and room most of the book, they literally never interact at all, but they're still the second most popular ship in the history of this book with a fandom so loyal that they can spend hours explaining how those two definitely got together after the events of thed book ended. The second book, the most popular ship being the two main characters in a canon romantic relationship, the second being the best friends of these two characters respectively, the two being close friends themselves and being together and interacting most of the time we see them, but at the end of the day one of them DECAPITATES THE OTHER'S BROTHER IN FRONT OF HIM, KIDNAPES HIM AND TORTURES HIM MENTALLY AND RUINS HIS LIFE BECAUSE THE DUDE WAS ONLY PRETENDING TO BE HIS FRIEND BUT ENDED UP BEING ALL A PLOT TWO SLOWLY GET HIS TRUST TO THEM RUIN HIS LIFE. AND THEY'RE STILL THE SECOND MOST POPULAR SHIP, the fandom of this ship even has an inside joke were thay say "what? That part of the book never existed, what are you talking about?" To forget the fact of what they're relationship actually was. Basically you really don't anything need anything for a ship to become popular

This ship is impossible because Jack Frost can't be seen by adults because he's a guardian of childhood only kids can see him if they believe in him also I thought Jack was 18 because in the Bio when I got him from an Happy Meal (the only one I ever got) it was said that he was 18 for 300 years so I think it began from McDonald's someone got Jack Frost read that he was 18 years old and then shipped him with Elsa because of an age misunderstanding
