Thnx for these usefull tips man! About my deadlift, I'm slowly getting back into it. I want to focus on improving my deadlift alot this year and my pr thus far was 150kg for 4 reps, right now I just got back to 140 for 5 reps (4 sets). In the past the point whenever I was going a tad bit too heavy the bar just stopped moving right after lifting from the floor so at about shin hight. What kind of accessory do you think works best to improve on this? paused deadlifts and rack pulls? Thnx again for the great tips and love the content guys!

Nice tips! Exspecially the whole variation thing is something i completly missed out. In fact i have big problems getting the bar off the floor. Without putting it on the floor i can deadlift around 320 x 5 (1 finger space to the floor), but as soon as i try to go the whole way it ends with something like 220 x 5 wich is shit. Will try to apply this!

I got a question for you: I am obese and deadlift but I sometimes have trouble due to my belly getting in the way. For example I hurt my lower back back in December on a warm up set of 185lbs and at the 3rd rep I heard 3 pops and I was done. I'm back at it now but slowly making my way back up to 225lbs. Should I stick to Conventional (that's all I've used until my lower back issue) or should I start to use Sumo until my belly gets smaller?

My shins bleed a lot when I deadlift sometimes. Any recommendations for deadlift socks or deadlift shin pads?
@j.l.59665 жыл бұрын
Tuva Tha Bro go to a sporting goods store (Academy or Dick’s) and buy the neoprene calf sleeves. They are thick enough to protect your shins but not too thick that it gets in the way of your lift. You’ll find these in the section where they sell knee braces, elbow braces and the like. Or you can use your knee sleeves worn over the calf but I’m not a big fan of that method. The bar can catch on the top of the sleeves on the way down due to the thickness of the material.

I find the cue push the floor away to help activate the leg drive. Maybe even doing some light to moderate leg presses before to get the legs warmed up and the mind thinking of that press. That's the same press you want to put into the floor in your deadlift

Personally I have one heavy day and I like to alternate between sumo and conventional for this day, but often I train light deficits after heavy squats. Really just focusing on technique over weight, often I only pull 350-400 for these. 2x a week is cutting it for right now but in the future I may need 2 heavy days per week separated by a light day. I feel like deficits reinforce good positioning which contributes to a better lockout. Might have to switch it up and use the thick plates at my gym to focus on lockout

I used to stiff leg deadlift 500lbs and then was told to use more leg, more leg! Hips lower, chest more up, don't use so much back! Honestly, after years of lifting and trying to listen to others, I got weaker at the deadlift. I enjoy hearing in this video it is a back dominant movement but pushing the ground is just a little extra. I've felt that way a long time but so many trainers out there over-complicate movements!

@GR-uc1gq5 жыл бұрын
Wait how is your block pull weaker? Isn't a block pull a deadlift with less range of motion
@DrTopLiftDPT5 жыл бұрын
Gary Flores - yes and it’s common phenomenon. Leg drive is diminished at something close to below the knee level because you limit the knee extension component and are left with hamstrings, low back and glutes.

I think decent volume spread over 2 or 3 deadlift slots per week is valuable. I'd focus on using intensities that allow for the best technique acquisition and simultaneously a good training response. Basically not too heavy or too light. Plus patience. Think about how you structure your training, track your lifts and just adjust if things stall, either by switching variations or upping the volume. I've put about 50+kg into my deadlift in the last 6 months after being a bit aimless and clueless for awhile.
@leftphilange695 жыл бұрын
I do some sort of pull or row off the floor every day I’m in the gym - this has been huge for me. I do a conventional deadlift maybe once every 2 weeks but I use a whole shit ton of variations and it really really got me over a plateau. There’s about 5 variations I go through. Deficit deadlift, snatch grip deadlift, pause deadlift, Romanian deadlift, regular. This way I can go lighter and still train hard without totally draining myself. I also do deadlift rows, power cleans, snatches, and just a regular row off the floor. So I get a shit ton of exercises where I’m pulling from the floor. I also do pull up/chin up grip pull downs. In addition to this, there’s all the squat variations I do (front squat, back squat, overhead squat, pause squat all done ATG) so there’s about 3 exercises in each day I train that have significant carry over to my deadlift. I only go heavy on a few of them, but the amount of practice for form perfection as well as overall development I get from all of these skyrockets my progress. Another thing that’s helped me was spreading deadlift volume from 1 day to 2 without increasing it more than slightly which helped recovery as well. (I personally changed doing 5 x 5 on one day to 3 x 3 and 2 x 5 on two separate days for this example. So the number of sets didn’t increase).
