What a band. They never get the full recognition they deserve for the amazing records they've produced. I have been all in with The Verve since they were just known as Verve. A storm in heaven is such an underrated album as is Northern soul. It shouldn't have took Urban Hyms to show the world just how amazing this band truly were.

I hear you, but the whole band are masters. Bass lines are so perfect/pocket. It's really easy for drummer to come in take a shit on a great song, but this is drumming perfection. And those vocals. Man, how I wish they were still together making the magic as only they could!!!

The English have made the best music on this planet since the 1960s. Idk what it is- maybe it's the gloomy weather, the post-war sadness, the naturally tortured demeanor of the Anglo-Saxon (I'm Irish-American myself). They just know what notes to hit, at just the right time, and it digs deep into the soul. It's a complete refinement of rock n roll and their music has conquered my life and I LOVE it.

It’s really a shame the Verve split at the peak of their fame. Probably for the best though as Richard had different aspirations and moved on from shoegaze to more radio friendly pop music. Early verve were truly brilliant beyond words but never received the notoriety they deserved. One thing especially overlooked is Simon’s bass lines. They are groovy, hypnotic and are a perfect compliment to Nick’s ethereal guitar work. Richard’s style of singing was also different back then, more falsetto and drone-like. I didn’t think I could be more enamored with a band other than The Cure until I discovered early 90s Verve. ❤

Yesss.... The best of the leaked tracks, in my opinion (along with "King Riff 2", "Sweet and Sour", "Jalfrezi" and "All Ways Are Maybes"... Proving once again that the band-written (or at least the ones that sound like they were band-written) and more interesting than the R. A. solo stuff that he brought to the band. I respect and love lots of those songs (check out the "Sympathy for the Demos" for raw versions of some of those tunes), but there's a clear difference between them, and it pisses me off to hear Richard talk shit about the rest of the band in interviews as if The Verve was mostly "him". C'mon Richard, you know that ain't the truth! Please, put it all aside and play with the team like a team player again! The reunion shows seemed like an "almost" moment that just fell apart... Maybe agree to play it half and half? And not 3/4 Richard solo with accompaniment by Nick, Si and Pete??? I never got to hear "Columbo" live!!!! ;)

One man on his own in the studio is a bit different from these guys smashing our sessions together.. Ashcroft wasn't The Verve alone hence you do not get The Verve when Ashcroft releases a solo single. Anyway I like both those aforementioned..
@Thomasknife697 жыл бұрын
If this is mediocre, then the two aforementioned RA songs are just laughable. In any case, that's exactly my point. These guys, when they were together, could even make jam sessions that sound way (way) better than any solo attempt.
@Thomasknife697 жыл бұрын
Of course, you are right. But, although I still respect Richard Ashcroft, something went terribly wrong with his last two releases. The songs, the image, the videos, the weird dance moves, the interviews.
