One of the most moving and impressive of these sci fi shorts I've heard recently. Nicely done.

Agreed. A bit of a tear jerker. 😢

This story feels reminiscent of a Star Trek Voyager episode: Blink of an Eye. Where a race is seen advancing through millennia, essentially chasing, try to communicate with Voyager. It was why they tried to hard to advance.

And I thought I was a Star Trek nerd.🤣🖖 This my favorite quote from that series. "This is Starfleet weird is part of the job." - Captain Janeway

@@VTX00128 that is a good quote. One of mine is "There's Coffee in that nebula"

That was a 'homage'/'ripoff' of Dragon's Egg by Robert L Forward, which, thanks to being a novel, was able to push the idea a lot farther, especially since it didn't have as much plot to go back to on Voyager...still curious why they never used the Doctor's experiences there later, given he apparently had a family in some way, and it would have really helped later on with things like his Holo-Novel.

"Blink of an Eye" is one of my favorite ST episode. I wish a sequel (either novel or TV) would be made to show what happened to the people of that planet.

"Blink Of An Eye" is arguably the best Star Trek Episode of all time, regardless of how one thinks about Voyager as a series. Completely blew me away!

"No one knows... not even their vanished gods, for they died with them... if they were each individually really good men, or bad. What their last thoughts were. Who was in their mind as their lights faded, whether they regretted their choice or deemed it worth the price at the end. Why their enemy sought to destroy them. Why they chose to stand here to the last. Why they did what they did. What we will now remember, now that we have learned it, from now until the death of our own race, is that these few stood against a great many. They stood against their foe tall and firm. They stood till the very last fell, and gave no ground. They did not flee, and made of their end such an end to be worthy of song and poem to the very day our kind too goes fighting into the dark. And that they fought... for US. That they stood against their foe for US. That they gave their lives, to the last, to the death of their race, for US. To save us. To allow us to live in peace they knew they would never live to share. And that they did all this knowing that those they shielded would never even know. That their sacrifice would be unknown for endless centuries and perhaps might never be known. We know them now. We know their sacrifice. We know their strength. We know their valor, their goodness as a people. We will never forget. We were given a choice, with their last words. To hide here, from that foe, and remain at peace, or to head forth and face them in war. We have today made that choice. They came from the stars and protected us. They saved us, and our debt is not repaid. Can never be repaid because we can never save them. But there is something we can do instead. Something we must do. Something we WILL do. We will go to the stars. We will find the foe that destroyed them, that would have destroyed US. And we will deliver to these slaughterers the message we were asked to deliver, should we choose not to hide. Deliver it in letters of fury, plasma fire, wreckage and wrath a thousand rilms high! Letters so bright and clear that these fallen champions will be able to read them from the other side and know at last their sacrifice was not in vain! "HUMANITY SENT US!" -Transcript of the speech given at the launch of our world's first interstellar battle fleet.

This one was really good. At first I though it may been a trap. A story of an alien 'radio tower/object' from a times where we had no radios, relentlessly broadcasting message waiting for the fledgling race to evolve enough to come and find it... And once they did, once they arrived. The message changed... "They're ready to be harvested". But this was even better. The last of humanity actually so willing to acknowledge other life, that after their last gamble failed, they decide to sacrifice themselves not to endanger them. To give them a chance and choice they themselves never had. Really well done.

What an Epic Short . There is enough there to make a Movie out of . Well Done .
@paradoxstate50184 ай бұрын
I fear that in today's world, this story would be horrible ruined if made into a film, and independent would be the best bet if they could get the funding.

@@paradoxstate5018 . Definitely no letting Disney have a go at it .
@paradoxstate50184 ай бұрын
@@johncunningham4820 . I hear you there, but not just Disney, I think any mainstream company, this needs to be an independent film maker with a love for the art, I think if I was rich enough I'd throw money at this whether it made money or not, even a direct to dvd or something shared for free on the mountains of platforms that on the net :)

i can't help but imagine the story continuing with the race that discovered the humans fate and in turn after receiving all the knowledge of human used their understanding of genetics to advance cloning and memory scanning tech reviving the dead race. and then adopting a stealth policy to expand and grow massive fleets together.

The point I get from this story is when humans started fighting these aliens, they should have started building as many ark ships as they could an sent them to other galaxies. 1 per. That way their chances of surviving would be greater. And one day after working hard to advance and multiply come back to this galaxy and wipe those bastards out.
@Bellator_of_the_Shadow7 ай бұрын
sounds like they tried that and got hunted down. I wouldn't be surprised if they did manage to survive though. each human fleet probably would purposely not be told where the other went. If this story gets expanded on it will probably turn out humanity is at war with those things again. except on more balanced terms because they now knew what to expect

Thats exactly what I thought as well, from the description I thought a form of borg were attacking the human fleet as well. This was such a beautiful short story, and would make such a movie if executed correctly but I fear it would be ruined by today's film makers.
