Is it any wonder that the Walton's remained a hallmark in family viewing!! These relationships were real and it shined through the TV cameras right into our hearts!! I did not grow up in M America but even in the Caribbean islands, entire families would gather every Sunday night to watch the weekly episodes. To see Mary and Judy communicate they way they did in these segments, you would truly believe they are sisters. Love love love!!💕

When the series debuted, Erin (Mary) was so young. Mary Ellen was closer to my age (I recently found out you are about two years younger than me) and I thought you were just gorgeous (still do). I had a crush on Mary Ellen. She was so cute in her bib overalls and I liked the fact that early on she was a bit of a tom-boy and liked sports. As the character got older the tom-boy thing went away but I still had a special place in my heart for her. She was always a strong, determined individual who set goals and then worked hard to achieve them and I always admired her for that. Judy,I hope you and your family have a safe and happy 4th of July!

All the Walton girls were beautiful. Michael/Olivia was a youthful looking mother and had the most gorgeous cheekbones. Kami/Elizabeth was so adorable and grew into a beauty. Mary/Erin was a stunner with beautiful eyes and hair. Judy/Mary Ellen started out as a Tomboy, but always had a natural beauty waiting to come out. Look at Judy Norton. She is an ageless beauty and was always my favorite. All the Walton kids turned into respectful adult's who really admire and care about one another. Not all child actors took the right path. But our Walton kids did. I was very young when the Walton's first aired, but became a fan in reruns. Just a good show with superb actors and writers. You just can't copy the chemistry. One of a kind.

I grew up in the 70's. Watched a lot of tv. But, somehow, never saw an episode of The Waltons. (Mom and Dad liked cop dramas.) When I was old enough to make my own viewing choices I was into science fiction and considered myself too "Cool" to watch something like The Waltons. So, somehow, I made it to 55 years old and never saw the show. A few weeks ago, KZbin suggested your channel. I thought, "Why not?" and watched a few videos. So, I decided to fire up the old tv and finally watched an episode to see what I missed out on. I'll be honest, I expected to watch an episode and then check it off my list, and probably never watch another one. Well, I've been binge watching ever since! Seems I missed a lot! Great story telling, fantastic performers, and great writing that still holds up today! So, while I may have missed it the first time around, I'm playing catch up now and enjoying every minute of it! Thanks for the great videos and re-introducing me to a gem I missed out on all those years ago.

We were just chatting about the dinner table and you had replied that it was up to the actors if they ate. Here comes Mary sharing an exception when Ralph asked her to when he was directing. Perfect timing! Like Mary, I still have a number of those teen magazines and loved her idea about having a show discussing them. I heard from other actors that often times a publicist or magazine writer would create the articles with no input from the actors.

Judy, I could listen to Mary for hours. She is just so down to earth, so polite and so open about her time on the Waltons. It once again reminds me that I think the greatest thing the Waltons gave all of you were each other and that's what makes life worth while (in my opinion) - the love and caring people you find in life that are there for you. What a wonderful gift you all have. So many times Hollywood is simply labeled as elite and inclusive and arrogant and that's completely oversimplified. Just look at the example of the Waltons to completely counter that argument. What a gift you have given your fans showing them you're real people first and foremost! Thanks!

Mary is hilarious in her description of Ralph jumping around on his first directorial assignment! Although I didn't work on this episode I can assure you Ralph calmed down in later episodes! I had the unique experience of working both as an actor and PA on the FOUNDERS DAY episode with Ralph. Our Guest Star was Oscar-Winner DEAN JAGGER who played PROFESSOR BOWEN. Ralph's splendid, patient handling of Dean as he struggled with his lines was amazing given the fact Dean kept calling me "Dayton" and Ralph "Mr. Cartwright" (Bonanza) while filming. Dean was a delight..and tolerated my un-ending questions about his role as GENERAL WAVERLY in my favorite movie WHITE CHRISTMAS. I know I've said this before, but getting to watch the show after all these years is a real eye-opener as most of us involved with the production worked long hours which prevented us from watching the show on Thursday nights. Thank you Mary for making me laugh this morning...we did have a lot of fun. What a blessing the show has been in my life! And you know what Judy, maybe you should think about some segments devoted to the amazing GUEST STARS we had on the show.

Yup. When acting is no longer "a thing" but your emotions and reactions become part of the "real life" of The Waltons. And that's one big reason for how the show -- the cast/characters -- touched so many viewers' lives -- because there was so much "real" to it. Great writing -- sure, great direction, sets, and atmosphere, but really more importantly -- the cast transitioning from acting to *being* the characters.... Thank you (all) for being an important part of my growing up.

Erin Walton, in The Pin UP that was your greatest kiss! Wow. You couldn't go out and play until you had answered ALL your fan mail! I couldn't go out and play until I had written the occasional thank you note. Who had it worse? Mary, I would think your fan mail changed as Erin evolved and grew into such a wonderful person. You had so many charming episodes. Add me to your crush list in 2022. Judy, I so agree with your comments on David Harper!. I am surprised that he would grow up to be one of my favorites with his simple, pure straighforward quiet non-acting. He was the one to root for. Jim Bob touches me in so many different ways. The new dog in the house, Nick, chews up all his clothes and Jim Bob just shrugs and says, "Nick, you better cut it out." And Jim Bob has quiet, sly humor and isn't afraid to blow someone off like Elizabeth when he wants to be alone...
@garywarmee43672 жыл бұрын
Yes, you two were raised on a farm and knew the life. In yesterday's episode Cindy was infuriated that as she tried to join in everyone pushed her away telling her as a delicate flower to go take a nap as they had been raised to hoe and raise chickens while she had not. Cindy wanted to commit hari kari on them and actually pushed Erin right out of her little house in a fit because of it. The death of the animals on The Waltons is no joke. Everyone was a heart breaker and now in the Cindy supposedly not able to do anything episode here she is shooting Elizabeth's beloved horse as he breaks his leg... I acquired this kitchy metal peacock sculpture that I have in the garaged appropriately named Rover. Jim Bobs and my pride & joy!

ANXIOUSLY AWAITING MARY MCDONOUGH, PART 4! I'm sorry, but there is always more to say :In an interview MM is saying of herself, (paraphrase) "I have never seen myself as beautiful but what is true about me is that i am the all american girl and I think that is what people relate to." Speaking of Jim-Bob, in today's new repeat some girl is claiming she is carrying his baby. As we like to see Erin as chaste, the secret of her appeal, I think maybe the audience kind of fells the same way about Jim-Bob?

These interviews are great; I was pretty young when The Waltons was originally airing, but I do remember the excitement in my grandparent's house when the show came on - even at my age, the episodes around the house fire, the war, the calf, Will Geer's passing, and Ellen Corby's stroke all stick with me to this day. Great stuff, especially for those of us that grew up in rural Virginia and thought of the Waltons as a show about our friends, families, and neighbors. I occasionally find myself driving down Rt. 29 between Charlottesville and Lynchburg and I always look at the sign for Schuyler and enjoy those memories for a few minutes. Good stuff - thank you!

The talk about your ability to cry reminded me of how real Mary Ellen seemed as a teenage girl. I was just entering my teens when the Waltons came out so I could easily relate to the combination of frustration, anger, and confusion that's felt at that age. It's impossible to fake. Judy, thank you again for sharing more of your conversation with Mary. You both are delightful. I love the way you sometimes finish each others' sentences and how you listen to each other very intently, but also very caringly. You really feel like family to each other. Such a delight. I also love the way you obviously love the other "Waltons" and how you just shine when you get to compliment them. Both of your spirits of generosity shine clearly through. I think that is why you both came across so honestly as Mary Ellen and Erin. Thank you both for all the years of pleasure you have shared and continue to share with us.

Thanks, again, to you “sisters“! It’s so good to see Mary’s comfort & your happy reflections together. Special thanks for “The First Casualty”, such a stellar, beautifully written, acted & directed story! Mary’s respect for its importance was conveyed even as a teen, through her sensitive portrayal of Erin’s complex relationship with G.W., the pressures war adds, and shock, regret, loss & love... David Doremus could not have been better, either! So much so, when I saw the episode recently I had to remind myself David attended a Waltons Reunion (maybe more). Otherwise tears would’ve been worse! I’m also so glad you both mentioned some of David Harper’s strengths, which could go unsung due to their subtlety & consistency. I’m continually amazed at the deftness & commitment of all of you!!! Only outshone by your kindhearted spirits. Thanks for sharing this conversation. I hope Mary will offer her spirit here, again. Maybe delve into what Kami Cotler mentioned were a specialty of Mary’s ~ funny voices & characters. :) Best Wishes for peace & happiness

@@judynorton2598 💜I don’t know how you read so many, Judy (even a day+ later). But you’re so gracious to reply. We’re trying to thank YOU!😄 (I even feel bad adding to your “inbox”, again, now. :) As with seemingly all who look for your videos, it’s surprisingly but genuinely comforting to see your joy and reflections; your supportive relationships, for all of you, with your extended family continuing; your talent beyond the Waltons (singing, musical theater… will we get a Horse video when you run out of episodes? :).. I hope! You can expand in any way you choose.)… I also think seeing your connections here with your outreach somehow makes the feelings inspired by all of you through the scripted series feel they continue growing “in the real world”. They do, of course, far beyond lives touched by Waltons connections. Yet what you’re doing here is a public service, too - because of the regard you express in your efforts. I’m far from alone in appreciating & thanking you! (Now, no reply needed to this!😁) Thank you & Wishing you Peace ~~~

To hear of how you felt at the time you were on the Waltons, with the acting and crying and just navigating through your scenes is like a window into who you all are as individuals. I had a real crush on John Boy. He had such passion for the woman he fell in love with that drew me in and made me want to find someone some day that would love me like that. Judy - I hope you will be doing more interviews with Mary and the other Walton siblings. I love this so much. Thank you for doing this.

It is obvious that all of you are very fond of each other and that is so nice to have your own family and then your extended family. And how nice for all of you to still be in touch with each other after all of these years. Here is the interesting part for me. I have always loved the Walton family so much that in a way I feel a kinship with them even though it was just TV. But your marvelous and sincere acting skills plus the writing just made it feel that way. And now being able to see the more personal sides of all of you shows that even off camera you are all warm and lovely people. Which in turn adds to a more warmness feeling with me. It is such a pleasure seeing Mary and how she has matured into such a lovely woman. So wonderful to hear you and her talk about the past and the present. Hearing Eric, Jon and Kami leaves me with the same feelings. If you could have a conversation with Michael, how awesome that would be. I understand David has left show business and may be a little more private but he was an intrical part of the family and it would be awesome to see him too. I believe The Homecoming and The Waltons will go down in history as one of the finest and best written shows ever because of the love, the warmness and the realities of life it created. I know that in real life we all have had good and troubled times and thing we would do different if we could go back. But when it comes down to the nitty gritty, you guys in real life are very much like the Waltons.

The Easter story. They are all special in their own way. I must tell you I was crying right along with the family when Ralph read Curts letter and GW's letter. The Waltons were something extraordinary and that speaks volumes about why the show captured the hearts of viewers. Have a great weekend Judy and please keep these coming! Thank you so much!

I enjoy these segments, when you feature your former cast mates. Sometimes the segments (such as Jon Walmsley and Linda Purl meeting up again) remind me of when I watch a movie on DVD 📀 and can watch the movie and hear commentary from people involved in the project, including the actors and/or actresses. The comments about being able to cry reminded me of when I watched the Disney film Escape to Witch Mountain and listened to the comments of the two former child actors, Kim Richards (she’s 9 months older than Kami Cotler) and Ike Eisenmann (8 1/2 months younger than David Harper), both of whom could have easily appeared on The Waltons as friends of the family members. Kim Richards said that for Escape to Witch Mountain (1975) she had to work hard to do scenes of her crying and being sad; but Ike countered her by musing how she could easily “turn the tears on and off”.

Erin and Lance the deer is my favorite episode. I’m the same age as Kami. So I couldn’t be in love with her. That’s kid stuff. LOL!!!! Judy you were too mature for me and I didn’t have a chance. I was totally into Erin and Mary. Of course, I didn’t have a chance with Erin & Mary either but she was it for me. I even remember she was on the PBS show Zoom for an interview and was discussing The Waltons. I was glued to the tv like nobody’s business. LOL!!! You can totally tell that you are sisters with Mary and Kami from your interviews. What are the odds that you 6 “kids” were able to develop such chemistry in The Homecoming so fast and be lucky enough to roll right into The Waltons. It was such a good show. Keep up the good work. BTW! I remember being blown away years (and, years) that the house used on Mayberry RFD was the same house used on The Waltons. I watched that show too and it never even dawned on me that they were the same exterior house. Do you know the history of that house? Was it in movies before Mayberry RFD ? I guess that’s a question for another Ask Judy? LOL!!!!
