In March I took my Aliner Trailer to the upper plateau known as the Mogollon Rim. I was finding a challenge to photograph the escarpment due to high winds, until I realized it was the wind itself that was worthy of a story. Spectacular scenery in the cool air of the upper plateau.

Thanks so much for correctly pronouncing “Mogollon”. I lived on the rim for several years. You become accustomed to hooking your foot under the car door when you open it. You see cars and trucks with obvious damage from the door swinging wide open and hitting the body in front of the door. What a great place the rim is. It goes from over in NM all the way to the Grand Canyon.

Loved this video. It brought back old memories. As a young man, I spent many hours, exploring the Mogollon Rim country. Back then, in the 60s I would go up by myself and explore I had one of the first Ford Broncos. I almost never used any of the trails that now exist. Instead, I would go in and find an exit point through trees and just start driving towards the rim. Not a wise thing but I was not a wise kid. I would camp overnight, usually on the weekends and remember experiencing the exhilarating feeling of looking out over all the valleys below, and experiencing the almost constant wind at the rim. Thanks for sharing this video it brought back fond memories to an old man, in the reworked words of another, ancient man, “you made my day.”

Wow, another magnificent video! Beautiful wilderness, heart-stopping views . . . yes, places like these need to be kept peaceful and pristine. Makes one thankful that the roads there are a bit harder to traverse. Your "soaring with the bird" made me soar along with the wind in my heart, too. Thank you for sharing your amazing travels, Mr. Slim. Safe travels and more peaceful adventures . . .

You sounded and looked like a hang glider pilot as you talked about how magnificent the birds are as they soar in ridge lift. Then, as you stood on the edge, arms spread, feeling the wind you were just one step away from being a hang glider pilot. You can experience what you were dreaming at that moment. That is what flying hang gliders is all about!

Beautiful photography Sir. I just wish U didn't stand so close to the edge! Yep, U guessed it, height scares the heck out of me. I'd love to be able to go some of the places U have seen, but I'd be very reluctant to drive out on a ridge like that. Love viewing what our God has Created for us to see with our eyes.

Two years later.... i get to see this cool video... I've heated soup in a can on a waffle iron i used to carry with me. If your supposed to add water, i ran it throughthe coffee maker and into the pan with the soup. Oatmeal instant with coffee maker... pancakes and bacon with waffle maker... really handy tools for motel rooms. Never left a mess. Even cheeseburgers and grilled cheese... brown bread.. add cheese and grill or if microwave id do a minute on there.. no grease..

Growing up we would camp along the rim a few times every summer. Ah, the memories. I haven't been camping there much in the past 10 years or so, all the ATV running people have ruined it for me. I got sick of them driving their ATVs UTVs, whatever up and down the road all the time even at 3am. Since they tend to drive up and down the road many times, compared to camping trucks which drive in, camp, and leave once; the road is in worse condition than it was years ago. Slim, you were early enough in the season to miss them. They must not start till June.
