This is a great assessment. I watched the inaugural season of the WNBA, was a HUGE Houston Comets fan.. After Cynthia Cooper (little MJ) retired I stopped watching. I did continue to watch Pat Summits Tennessee Volunteers though and the ladies college tournament, So I saw Holdslaw, Candace Parker, Taurasi, Griner, Maya Moore, lobo, Della Donne and Dijonai Carrington, but I did not follow them to the WNBA. There was no reason to. Once the NFL offseason hits I just force myself to watch the NBA (blah). However Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark's rivalry is THE ONLY reason I started watching the WNBA again. For years the ladies have been crying about equal this equal that, and NOW that they are receiving the attention they have been crying for they dont' want it. I appreciate what Angel and Caitlin are doing for the WNBA,, i anticipate the WNBA season now.. .I really NEED to see them face off in the playoffs though.

Women's basketball deserves a league that is dedicated to having the biggest audience possible. In other words, INDEPEDENT OF THE NBA. WNBA was created for the specific purpose of being a women's basketball league almost nobody watches, and loses money, which the NBA is glad to write off for nearly three decades. This is the one and only reason for the behavior towards Clark and her fans. She attracts an audience and the possibility of profitability, and higher player salaries. I think the only flowers this league should be handing out will be to Clark once the overall competition picks up due to women growing up watching her. It’s like what happened to Ronda Rousey. Sure, she fought nobodies, and started losing once the competition of her opponents picked up, but that competition would have never picked up if she was never given that spotlight in the first place. I don't get the point of this video. Yes, Clark is popular. Conor Mcgregor is the most popular fighter in the UFC but isn't close to being the best. She is a solid player, just not top 10. In game 1 she got outplayed by a nonstarter. Thing in your Jordan/James videos that you put as negatives for James you give Clark a pass on them. She really needs to work on her D. She gets lost on defense and is really bad at help D. On offense, she sometimes struggles to get open, especially if it is for a clutch play where they need the ball in her hands. And she destroyed the turnover record by doing things like she did in game 2, just stepping out of bounds with barely any pressure. The hate she gets isn't because she is not good. She is. It's cause her fans at like she is the greatest female player of all time and she isn't. She might get there one day, but not if she doesn't fix the major holes in her game with defense and turnovers. Also she need to stop with James like crying about calls and she better also pray they don't start calling her on her push-offs.

I would hope to think that you have common sense despite your comment but in a country that is 71% Caucasian and 13% black and given people like to see their own the results in a basketball game will always favor the larger percent by far even though a percentage of each of the demographics are fans of each others the numbers should always be leaning toward the majority another thing to think about basketball is a sport 73% of the NBA is black and over 60% of the WNBA is black 19% of the NBA is white and 17% of the WNBA is white this kind of gives you an idea of who has the talent despite the national population so when you get a rare player that is not black and a predominantly white country they are praised even more. I don't disagree with your overall point. The race factor you mention is REAL, but so is the generational perimeter player factor. And I'm saying this as one of the most pro-Black people on Earth. I'm 100% pro-Black but I'm also a hardcore (and honest) basketball fan. Clark is white but she's the best female guard I've ever seen. The WNBA is going to have to capitalize off her popularity, even if a lot of it is motivated by racial favoritism. From a business POV, it makes no sense to undermine it.

If this were as true as you think it is, then the nba would be seeing a bigger resurgence in popularity because 2 of the top 3 players in the nba are white. Also basket ball would gave hit it's peak in the 80s with bird instead of with mj. White players have been excellent in the wnba previously without this kind of attention. The gravity and charisma of an athlete often has nothing to do with race. Connor McGregor and Ali were loved because they could fight and promote a fight. Brady because if his success. Mj because of his skill and athletics. Also as unfortunate as this is to say. There is no significant evidence to support a race being more athletic. That is a belief deeply rooted in bigotry and racism. There is a significant discrepancy in economic backgrounds. The need to be successful to have a potential of a better life is significant. That discrepancy tends to be the more significant reason. Many households that are middle class or up do not look at sports as a viable career opportunity.
