My mom is the same, too. Narcissistic Personality Disorder with sociopathic traits. Everything Mary says about the sociopathic parent pitting the children against each other, keeping one a golden child and the other a scapegoat was exactly my brother's and my experience. My poor brother stepped out into mental illness and drug addiction to escape. I got removed from the home when I was 15 thank God. I love hearing Mary talk. It helps me heal.

What Mary is describing is the dynamics of living with a family member who had narcissistic personality disorder on the malignant end of the spectrum. IF you have NOT been around a narcissist, you LITERALLY have no idea! Most people don't even wake up to what their abuser did to them UNTIL they reach their 50s and 60s. IF you've been the target or scapegoat of a narcissist, you know EXACTLY what she's talking about.

It's like everything else in life. If you haven't experienced it you don't have a clue. I was with one for 6 years and was completely depressed and confused. It took me 12 years before I figured out what happened. Trumps an overt narcissist it's the covert narcissists that are really hard to figure out. They are masters of manipulation.
@brianwalsh14014 жыл бұрын
@Laura Lafauve Unfortunately I think trump's behavior is looked as a "alpha male" in our society. That and pandering to evangelical christians on abortion(which he could care less about), playing the race card, his faux business acumen, womanizing etc and add that most people don't really understand how dark, devious and disturbed narcissist and sociopaths really are who will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. If that means tearing this country right to the ground, he will do it. People just don't understand this. I was 51 before I "got" it and I was married to one and have known 6 or 7 others who have all been detrimental to my life. I understand now as much as anyone who isn't one can. I've tried telling this to people and most just can't comprehend it. These people represent 10% of the U.S. population. Scary.
@brianwalsh14014 жыл бұрын
@Laura Lafauve It could be a combination of nature and nurture. Trump's father Fred was a sociopath according to Mary Trump. Donald had to behave like one to get his father's validation and he did. Combine that with a mother who wasn't there to meet donald's developmental needs like love and affection and there you go, narcissistic or sociopathic personality disorder. The N.I.H. did a study and found that npd is 5.9% of the pop., borderline 5.9%. Dr. Martha Stoudt in her book "The Sociopath Next Door" places the number of sociopath's at 4.0% of the population, they are usually listed at 1%. I absolutely believe these numbers. I know I'm way more cautious around people. These "people" are very good at pretending to be something they aren't. Trump is easy to spot because he lets you know how wonderful he thinks he is, it's the covert or inverted narcs that are really hard to spot.Just FYI.

What the American Public is witnessing is America's repeated failures, bunglings, and strategic blunders only sickened by and increasing in the pandemic’s surge. The Bubble Economy has burst and fallen apart. Tens of Millions are unemployed, facing food insecurities and Eviction. The Pentagon stockpiles Nuclear Weapons while Public Health Budgets are depleted, and Schools are begging for Funds to safely open in the Fall. At the same time, the Captain Queeg on Pennsylvania Avenue is actually boasting that he's stopped Enforcement of disease-preventing Federal protections, and is continuing to push for terminating critical Nursing Home Regulations and pressing to end the Healthcare Marketplace that'll leave 23 Million Americans without Health Insurance. Sheer madness and Mayhem... EVERYONE knew who the Hell Donald Trump really was and who they themselves were voting for and supporting! Donald Trump was just dastardly enough to be honest about it. Forcing Trump to resign or at least step aside, is too little too damn late. This Moronavirus is Non-Partisan and its destruction is insatiable. I didn’t laud my “Mugger,” the abuser: The last time I saw her was a few years after I terminated the relationship with her completely in my late 20’s/30. She drove 350 miles to ambush me at my home, was thwarted by the locked storm door and told conversationally by me, “You are both uninvited and unwelcomed, now leave” and I closed the door. She then started screaming incoherently and took a coin out of her handbag and started going from window to window screaming and scratching the coin all over each window. It was the first beautiful windows up day in May and it sounded as if a homicide was taking place in my yard. Neighbors started coming out on their porches to see what all the commotion was about. After she completed her first doe-see-doe around the house I said in a conversational voice through an open front window, “Anna Mae, I’m calling the police now” and with the phone in my hand started dialing 911. *INSTANTLY in mid scream she shut up.* I don’t know what was more unnerving: The sudden screaming or the sudden silence. But the reality was, it was ALL AN ACT ON HER PART TO COERCE ME TO ALLOW HER IN MY HOME by creating what she knew I despised, a public scene. So how real was her act?! She then ran to her vehicle and NASCARed out of my driveway before the troopers could arrive. My neighbors in this rural village told me less than five minutes before the screaming commenced she was sitting in her car calmly reading a book, no doubt smug in her certainty she would *FORCE ME TO CAPITULATE TO HER INSANE DEMANDS.* As humiliating as this event was, it clearly demonstrated her ability to conceptualize and operationalize a plan to once again force me to comply with her demands. She lost, much to her disbelief and rage. And if the troopers had arrived on time, I absolutely would have had her charged and arrested.

They had Excellent Physical Health care but, not such good Emotional Health Care. :( THANK YOU Mary L. Trump for writing this Book! I've been gaslit since 1971, age 7, for speaking truth about abuse at "home",, and All those around did was ADD to the abuse by shutting me up, shaming, guilting me, making ME the "wrong" one, Made excuses for the abuser, as if "I" was the one here for the abuser instead of the other way around. Everyone made that normal for decades. People STILL say it to me to THIS DAY. The Patriarchal mentality runs through MOST "families" in the US, I fear, it certainly did around me. I had the ability to stand up to the abuser, speak truth to power as a teen/young adult but, was shamed for doing so, for being the ONLY one left to stand up for myself. So, essentially, your basic health is being criminalized. The body's natural functioning of protecting itself gets "criminalized." This country has always been Extremely dysfunctional. I saw how far it went as time passed and I studied, investigated child abuse, the abusive "family" for decades. I also worked out a lot to help me stay grounded because I had NO one on my side and everyone around kept undermining me for trying to get basic footing. You weren't "Raised" you were Undermined! Put into the Psych/emotional/developmental Debt Mary speaks about. I PRAY this book truly helps more people speak honestly out about and look at their own family abuse and dysfunction because it's FAR from just the Trumps. I make video Blogs about child abuse/ the Abusive "family" as the micro of the Macro on my channel. Many "families" put $ first and are Very dysfunctional/Abusive and have Much less $ than the Trumps.

Everything she said matches up perfectly with my 2016 pre-election research. Since Trump didn't have a political record I researched everything I was able to find out about him. Hillary Clinton, of course, had a long and ugly political history to draw from along with the damage she helped her husband do when he was President. It was a really unpleasant choice to be faced with just as it is this time around. Still, I couldn't possibly vote for Trump either time no matter how bad his opponent is or was.

Yes. The system is bent. It exploits uninformed complacency, and the inertia of _"good men."_ We can't consider ourselves good people if we _"do nothing."_ The only sane option is to spend one day voting against the greater evil, and four years fighting against the lesser evil. Then repeat. *Relentlessly.*

Trump quote from Wallace interview: "My father liked to win...my father was a very good man...a strong man...it's disgraceful that she said that...she was not exactly a family favorite...etc." Just to point out the obvious. This is a world wide phenomenon because we ain a Consciousness Shift that began in 1986 and 2012 was the halfway point. Not too long to go and the Pandemic is supporting this change by shutting down war, travel, the institutions that have kept us in thrall for so long.
