Fun fact: The Girardoni air rifle, also known as the Windbüchse, was designed by Italian inventor Bartolomeo Girardoni circa 1779 and was in service with the Austrian army from 1780 to around 1815. Not long ago max pressure was 200 bar..Now its 300.. Best O-rings are about 400 bar peak / 200 bar if you put it in the closet for a week. Best airpums are about 300 bar. Best airtanks are about 300 bar..Better O-rings (2000 bar)..Better pumps (2000 bar).Better tanks (2000 bar).. And a regulator set at 1700 bar.. Would turn a .30 cal. (124 ftp airgun with 160 bar reg. setting) Into a 1300 ftp monster that could be used in the military..

FAC air rifles are no joke. In the UK you the same licence for any airgun over 12ftlb muzzle energy as you do any powder burner. Makes sense as they are just as lethal. Why the US treats them so lightly is beyond my comprehension. With this gun a dive bottle isn't very practical. A 12v compressor is the way to go for both weight and financial reasons.

The air rifles are great and a lot of people have no idea what they are capable of. The main issue is that they need to be recharged with air somewhat often, depending on the rifle and the air storage, etc.. Of course, the good ones are not cheap and you still have to buy their pump and accessories. With all of that, they still seem like they are worth the money, especially if you are someone that doesn't use actual firearms for whatever reason. The projectiles in the video are awesome and deserve most of the credit for the results. Great job.

I like them because you don't need powder and casting bullets is simple. Depending on the caliber and how much you shoot the ammo price could well make up for the extra up front cost.

They are on the pricey side. I made a steel trap and end up recasting the lead and reusing it. The other big bonus is you can get them surpressed and full auto and shipped right to your house, legally.

@@jimelder25 Yes, there are some definite benefits to these tools, I really like them and have been on the fence about getting a decent one for a couple of years. The problem is every time I say I'm going to buy one (and all the accessories) I end up seeing a firearm I really like and it's the same money or less, so I end up buying the firearm. Unregulated air rifles shoot slower when the tank is completely filled (the valve is harder to open when fully filled). So you could have gotten more out of the rifle by measuring the speed of the pellets at different air pressures, and only filling the tank to the pressure that gives the highest speed.

Yeah dude same here, especially during the very first slow mo frames... Definitely immediately caught my attention, then preemptively watched for it every single time after. Like you said very cool & weird at the same time, but unlike a paintball gun, when one considers that this weapon exhibits properties which are more similar to, or in fact arguably more powerful, impressive & lethal, as the velocity & stopping power (and thus coming back to your point & our observations regarding the muzzle blast specifically) as an actual firearm... I was already on the fence here recently about my experiences, thoughts & opinions when it comes to airguns, but this video has finally made up my mind, certainly earned my respect and thoroughly changed my perspectives. The airguns of this design/class & quality absolutely deserve to be respected and taken seriously (whether you even like, or would yourself, utilize them or not). They're nothing even close to the old school .22 cal air rifles originally were, which were my very first experiences I had shooting any kind of REAL air rifle (for me meaning something above & beyond the .177 call BBs or pellets) going back at least 20, if not closer to 25, years ago! It may not be the .72 cal Zeus here, but I WILL be adding at least 1 or 2 of these or something in their neighborhood to my arsenal in the near future. Read that Lewis and Clark had an air rifle with them on their expedition, the Corps of discovery. They awed the western Indian Tribes with the operation as they could, seemingly shoot over and over with out using gunpowder. Killing deer and hitting any target they set up. Was magical to them. Gun was made in Italy and still exists. Over forty caliber if I remember rightly.

The zeus 72 with 1600 + ft lbs can take down any land animal on earth except possibly an elephant, even that though with the right shot its probably doable, so i dont think it would have any problems with a human , even in the 16 barrel length the 72 is going to turn you into mush if it hits you

I don’t think that the ATF could regulate airguns unless our useless politicians passed a new law. I’m fairly sure that the case law regarding a firearm defines it as something that uses combustion to generate pressurized gas to propel the bullet. Since airguns only use pressurized air rather than combustion of powder, they could never be classified as firearms unless that case law were to change significantly.

there is a limit for either how much air can be compressed, or perhaps it was how fast air can decompress, something to that effect that limits the velocity. I don't remember but I think it is around 1600fps. However you can instead fill it up with different kinds of gas that the can be compressed more, or decompresses faster and i'm sure 2000fps would be doable :D

There is a limit on how much a gas can decompress but a way around that is to pull a vacuum in the barrel so it can decompress faster. That is the next engineering feat that has to be overcome. I believe i watched something one time where they got the air to move so fast it actually broke the sound barrier

Im glad youre emphasizing the fact that felons like me can own these, but it is VERY important to also remind people that, for one of us to successfully defend ourselves with one of these could still be manslaughter, depending on your state. Im in Ohio and I spoke with a Mogadore cop about it some years back when these first started to get popular, and he said some judges might still try to charge you with the big one, but I dont know how that would be, because you legally own the airgun so youre not committing a felony possession in the process of shooting that person. Not sure how or why they would choose to do that to somebody, but thats what I was told.

I just sent this to my uncle last night who likes watching air rifles for home defense against pests like groundhogs. (Disclaimer: my uncle hates having to un alive groundhogs that’s eating his garden but has no other choice cuz there no other safe spot for them to go if he traps them without driving hundreds of miles to safely dispose them in some woods somewhere even then they would be a nuisance on someone else.) That and he owns a huge garden of tomatoes corn green beans onions green peppers and watermelons and has to deal with groundhogs constantly eating his garden with an air rifle. Amazing. I have never seen any air gun like that in my life. The last air rifle I have seen was 50 years ago. It was an old Crossman Pump. It shot BB's and Pellets. You could only hunt small birds and reptiles with it. I had no idea they were making air rifles like the Zeus.

Bullet height is better to penetration and a longer energy transfer then a fast and light projectile. The fast projectile is good to create higher kinetic weight but the shock wave and the air depression behind the projectile is more destination then the projectile itself.

It is good to see some respect shown to airguns. I acted as a reseller and did tech support for Pyramyd Air for a while. I also had my own scope brand until I moved to Romania. I live in Spain now where there are at least 3 respectable air-rifle manufacturers. That is not surprising as airguns in Spain have at least a 300-year history. I was the first to import the Cometa Lynx, and the first to bring some Turkish guns from Hatsan. I owned 40 guns at one time from all over the world. I couldn't bring them to Europe. :-(

It is definitely a crazy airgun. It has the muzzle energy of an AK-47 with a .72 caliber slug and, regardless of how anyone feels about firearms, an AK-47 is undeniably a beast of a weapon. In all honesty, while I own a Zeus, I don't find myself using it in most practical situations that I would normally use my shotgun. That being said, a regular shotgun is really the most practical and easy to use gun ever. So there is that. heh There are several KZbin videos demonstrating this as a very capable hunting rifle that can pretty much take down anything one cares to hunt. Anything. So if anyone asks, "Can it kill a.." "Yes it can... within a hundred yards/meters" Like you said, you can probably get 3 or 4 shots before you have to recharge the tank and it's breach loaded. It's a niche gun, very purpose built and it delivers on its promises. I love the high speed shots you have going. They are really informative. Great video. Thanks for making it. EDIT: And there is an equally crazy aftermarket suppressor that just makes it more beastly. I highly recommend.
