Most Rolex ADs are jewellers that are also ADs for other brands. The only difference for them is that demand for Rolex is far higher than others brands and some ADs use that to leverage sales of jewelry or watch brands they can’t turnover.

I love my classic fusion, it wears so well, it’s very comfortable and the rubber strap and clasp is one of the best I’ve ever tried. I wouldn’t pay retail but at a good discount it’s a nice watch, the finish on the titanium case is decent as well. I also tried the unico on recently and that’s a nice watch, over priced yea but again with discount a decent buy.

A Seamaster 300m off it's (appalling) bracelet is a nice watch, it's a terrible dive watch cause the bezel is verging on unusable at all and is completely unusable in gloves, but it is a lovely watch at a decent price point (NTTD model excluded, £4k extra for a titanium case and solid caseback with some fake military numbers on!).

half of all the non-microbrand watch companies have more heritage than rolex. 2/3 of all the non-microbrand watch companies have more innovations than rolex. but rolex is rolex because it has, through successful marketing, artificially inducing scarcity to manipulate 2nd hand price and other means, positioned themselves to be more desirable than most of those brands with richer heritage and better innovation. seiko does have more heritage than rolex. seiko even has way more innocations than rolex. but toyota having longer history than ferrari and a toyota prius having more seats as well as a more complex drive train (plug-in hybrid) than a ferrari 488 doesn't make people perceive toyota as the more prestigious brand.

@@jpdemer5 gs still has a long long way to go if they want to catch rolex. the vast majority of gs models still lose value when you sell it on. a lot of people (particularly hardcore watch snobs and people who know next to thing about watches) still don't bat an eye because there's "seiko" in the name. gs is a long way off from gaining the level of prestige of rolex, even though they are one of the "way more innovative than rolex" brands i mentioned. i have an even better example: zenith. rolex daytonas got its fame because zenith was the original movement maker for them. but now, even with el primero's 10bps movement +1/100s chronograph and a third to half the price of a daytona, people still only want a daytona. that's luxury goods in a nutshell. brand prestige first, everything else is secondary.

How can a verifiable fact be a "hot take"? Take Seiko having more heritage than Rolex. It is factually correct. There is no controversy, and it's not a matter of opinion. Seiko started in 1881, Rolex in 1905. Even the vertical integration speaks volumes. Seiko made their first completely in-house watch in 1956, while Rolex didn't until 2004. This is just common knowledge. There is nothing "hot" about it, and it's not a "take". I wish this blurring of fact and opinion would stop. It's eroding people's ability to understand what is true.

I'd definitely take my Hublot Classic Fusion King Gold Titanium 45mm over any Omega. Omega has a great calibre but the brand generally bore me to tears. The Hublot is an extraordinary design, absolutely gorgeous, has a dial that rivals Grand Seiko and the Hublot 1112 caliber is highly modified with a sensual feel and workings. The fusion of straight lines, angles and curves, gold, titanium, alligator leather and rubber and elegant and industrial is stunning. Omega is a nice tool watch.

Great video again! That Hublot v Omega hot-take though? Hublot Classic Fusion Titanium (42mm) £6500 v Omega De Ville Tresor (40mm) £5560. The Omega is technically superior with the 8511 calibre movement bringing 60 hours of power reserve to the table (versus 42 hours), it's a 20mm strap monster, it's elegant, it has twice the water resistance (100m v the Hublot's shallow 50m), it's incredibly anti-magnetic - all this AND you don't have to walk around with a Hublot on your arm like an absolute idiot. The Omega is just prettier from every angle (get the Orbis edition and there is a little blue teddy bear on the dial!). And the change will buy you a *Christopher Ward C60 Trident Pro 300* (which is a whole other epic watch!!). Nobody takes a Hublot Classic Fusion over a great Omega and a great Christopher Ward. Yes I am that Omega fan boy - but facts are facts. There is nothing in the Hublot offer that makes sense. Terrible terrible hot take.

The iwc is hefty indeed and you do pay for the design. I wouldn’t compare it to Rolex though. Compared to other genta design from AP and Patek it is actually reasonably priced. But still pricey. I prefer my portugieser over the ingenieur to be honest. Both design and price.

I just don't get the "look at me, I'm cool because my watch has been on the moon". I got a few ones: Rolex is Worth the hype AP royal oak 41mm is one clunky mf Certina PH1000m is, by far, the best diver for the price. Watches are investments, just like cars, expensive wine and paintings Omega was a complete shitshow in the 80s and are kinda still are. Just look at all the seamaster-variatons. The brand loses itself in insecurity in few models. Quality over quantity The seamaster 300m pro is 1) outdated and 2) overpriced. I’ve had a submariner for about 6 years and recently bought a grand seiko. What a pile of poo the grand seiko was. From poor innovation and design to just poor quality, the grand seiko was by far the worst watch I’ve ever owned and it was by far the most expensive watch I’ve ever purchased. I even made my own video comparing the two watches, from the bracelet to the loose pushers and loose crown the grand seiko seems like the worse way to spend money on a watch.

Grand Seiko is better than Rolex and Omega, there I said it. Reason: spring drive. As acurate as quartz, built to last, high quality craftmanship. Some say the bracelet is trash but I would swap it with leather strap. I don't wear bracelet.

Hot take. The Rolex Sub has a ridiculously large clasp. I know it's a glide lock but if GO can make a smaller clasp and on the fly adjustment (without taking it off), Rolex should as well.

OK, you asked: 1. Lume is a party trick. It almost never matters IRL. 2. WR > 10 ATM is irrelevant. 3. PR doesn't matter if you rotate >5 watches. 4. Any unused watch that sells for more in the secondary than primary market is by definition underpriced - especially Rolex.😂

Here's a hot take: I'd rather spend ~$7000 on the entire Tissot Catalogue than a single Submariner. The IWC Ingeneur just looks like an automatic PRX. I like the PRX Spaceman but it's too small for my wrist and too expensive for a quartz.

I have a nuclear hot take for you: Hublot is better than Rolex, AP, or Patek. Why? Well when I say "better" I'm inverting. I actually mean "less bad". Why do we all hate Hublot? Are they actually bad watches? No. They're just ridiculously overpriced and people buy them for the wrong reasons (status symbol, conspicuous consumption). Now, I'm not saying you have to absolutely agree with me on this, but seriously, be honest with yourself here. I know all 3 objectively make better watches than Hublot and have more impressive heritage. But seriously, is there any denying all three of these collector darlings are also ridiculously overpriced and also flaunted as symbols of consumption for the sake of consumption just like Hublot? And the part that makes them "worse" imo is that you can at least walk into a Hublot AD, offer them the money on the tag for the watch and actually make the purchase and walk out wearing the overpriced, overhyped ugly object of your desire. Try offering to buy an (admittedly generally far more attractive) Rolex, AP, or Patek from an AD at the list price without playing the wait list game and the salesperson will probably laugh in your face. I really honestly feel like you can lose more money and experience less happiness pursuing any one of those 3 than a Hublot, and I actually like most Rolex and Patek watches and think Hublots are just as tasteless as your average watch nerd (though my opinion on the anesthetics of the Royal Oak would be another nuclear hot take).

Merry Taintmas, Britt! Hot Take: Scratches and dents on a watch are only "stories" or "memories" of being a careless and any real sentimentality about them are rare. Our watches and how well we take care of them over time are reflections of ourselves and it projects, both externally and internally, how much we value the time, money, and hard work it takes to buy a luxury watch as well as that of the watchmaker to produce the watch. Sure, wearing a watch every day and enough to garner the occasional ding can show your one's love and respect for the watch, but doing so without a scratch shows one is a badass worthy of awe.
