When I used to work for Audi as a tech, I remember a lot of complaints, specifically about the S4/S5 brakes. There were no major changes in what Audi did other that coat the rotors with a “noise resistant” material. I’ve heard going aftermarket is way better to keep the noise away.
@brandonbrooks57596 жыл бұрын
I don't understand why people say the wheel goes the wrong way. When you rotate it to the right, AKA clockwise, the image on the MMI rotates to the right AKA clockwise. If you rotate it to the left, AKA counter clockwise, the images on the MMI screen rotate counter clockwise. It only looks a little strange when the selector is on the bottom. However, it rotates the same direction its turned! just strange that that bothered people!
@joeneumann15156 жыл бұрын
This. And the wheel is way better than a touch screen. Safer and better quality.
@krismate28955 жыл бұрын
I think this complaint comes from a lot of devices that utilize navigation "wheels" being opposite to what Audi had implemented. In terms of left to right and right to left movement, you are correct. The issue is when you're trying to scroll up or down a list. On a lot of devices (think ipods and mp3 players of the past especially) turning the knob/wheel clockwise would navigate DOWN the list. On these Audi's, it's the opposite.

On a good tank I'll get 23 mpg and I drive conservatively! -stock exhaust is very muted, and in the B8.5 is flat out artificial (Audi Soundaktor). I have daily driven B8 and B8.5 S4's since 2010, and the best way I can describe this car is: The S4 is a car that is pretty good at most car duties, but not great it any one category. Rear leg room is OK, trunk space is OK, MPG is OK, handling is not true sports car level. The real areas the car is exceptional are snow driving and value. With snow tires, plus sport diff, the car is a beast in the winter! Retail prices and resale value for the S4 are extremely reasonable. The lack of Bluetooth audio control is frustrating, the brakes, ehhh just brake a bit harder (don't lightly drag) and the squeal goes away. My B8 had adaptive dampers, in comfort mode the ride was much more plush, would really smooth out expansion joints. My B8 & B8.5 and 120k miles combined driving was reliability, only had the B8 in for one warranty stop, the drivers side proximity door sensor failed. Other than that nothing other than regular service and tires.

MMI has no carplay and bluetooth takes about 1 minute to connect with your phone. 1 minute doesn't seem long but when you are wanting to connect, it takes forever. Exhaust flexpipes commonly need replaced. I found with mine that the salt brine pre treat they spray on the roads seems to cause the loud squeal. I actually got pulled over by my town cops for the noise with the cop saying my brakes were bad. Had to inform him no, the pads were 4000 miles old and everything was in working order. My complaint with the car is the seats. I ended up getting a pad for the seats as they are so uncomfortable for long distances. My previous Audi A4 the seat was so comfortable I could drive 1/3 of the way across the country in a day with no issues at all. I also hate that to change the radio or adjust the air you have to go through two steps. In the end for me the cockpit sucks but I enjoy everything else about the car.

Instead of having a spotlight sized dome light, maybe add an inch to the sunglass holder. Unless that tiny thing is supposed to be used for something else? Also, I bought her new in Germany when I was there, and I was disappointed that the S4 didn't come with a lot of the options available on the A4, like the push button close of the trunk, and the auto folding of the mirrors even after opting for the Prestige edition. All of these are minor, I still love the car, but like you, for a luxury car - just a few observations.

If you're like me and rest your arm on the center console while driving, the volume/track button actually makes sense. I drive a DSG now, but when I had the 6MT it was super nice since my hand was always on the shift lever, so a short distance to change tracks/radio/volume vs. going backwards to the MMI which is only switch tracks/radio and no volume. Oh, and brake squeal? Totally got it. Super annoying! Love the initial bite, though.

I have a 15 S4 Technik. Love the car, also HATE the nudging volume button. My gfs leg always bumps it. Also the brakes are soooo squeaky (I work for Audi and even the new ones do this). Other than that, the car has been so fun. I'm at 125,000 km and no warranty so I'm nervous for things to break bc it's $$$ but everyone assures me I won't have trouble. Have a colleague with a 2011 that has 260,000 km and a stage 1 APR and he's had no issues in 8 years.

I’m looking to buy my neighbors 2010 sprint blue s4 with the alcantara seats. It has 85k miles. What should I beware of or make sure he receipts for?

I have the same gripes mentioned on my 2014 S4. Correct if I’m wrong, I don’t think I can toggle music forward/backward on the steering wheel when I’m connect via Bluetooth.
@EddieX6 жыл бұрын
+e46dxyan nope! Only way to do it is with that stupid little knob switch. It seems minor but really annoys me haha

I have most of my music in a SD card. That can be changed via the steering wheel. Have not tried with Bluetooth streaming.

You can through the big directional button if you pick functions. Still should be on the Steering wheel, but not as annoying as little volume knob.

There's a 2016 s4 premium+ with 92k miles in my price range but haven't seen much on higher mileage versions, what would be the general things to look out for before buying? This would be my first car that I'll be owning with over 100k miles. Good informative video!
@zackpolizzi41615 жыл бұрын
I know this video is really old but I'm looking at B8 S4s right now. I found a 2010 with 90k miles for $14,700. Is that a good deal? It's really clean inside and out and runs fine
@christianbryant5617 Жыл бұрын
Bruh how you gon bring up squeaky brakes as an Audi problem and not brake dust!!😂 Audis and BMW’s have the worst brake dust but I guess that just means they work..
@yerikakhmetov49276 жыл бұрын
Hey! I thinking to getting one of these. But I prefer the manual. Why did u pick auto vs MT? What do u think of high milage s4?
@joeneumann15156 жыл бұрын
It is actually a DCT with 7 speeds that shifts very smoothly. It has great fuel economy. If you like manual better, go with the 6-speed manual before they go extinct.
@ZeroRequ1em6 жыл бұрын
The knob doesn't turn wrong. If you think about a pulley system like say on a flag, pulling down on the rope, you pull the flag up. A audi engineer explained the reason why the knob turns the way it does. they changed it to please the consumer rather than being right, physics wise.

Any transmission issues/complaints w this car? From what I can see on videos tuned s tronic 8.5's slip on full throttle upshifts quite often. Have you noticed anything in stock form? Drivability/slipping/jerks?

I have a 2010 S4 with about 71k miles and yes the brakes squeal mad when its cold out. That's normal. Another thing is that you always have to keep a quart of oil in the car because the supercharger burns oil a bit. On average I have to put in a quart or so of oil in over the year in between oil changes (I only put on 6-8k miles a year on the car). Oh and if you haven't had to replace the brakes....its about $2200...yikes!

Few things: If you tell us the knob turn the wrong direction you gotta show it. How am I supposed to know which one the right direction is? Also, don't tell us you're too tall for the car WHEN YOU DON'T TELL US HOW TALL YOU ARE. I'm 6'3 and thinking of buying this and knowing now that it could be a little small just gave me more questions than I had before. If I'd known how tall you are I could evaluate but no - no information. Great video anyway and the rest was well explained.

I’m looking at a 2014 Audi s4 with 40k miles do I need to worry about any reliability problems?
@TheSnoopy17506 жыл бұрын
The B8.5 S4s are pretty bullet proof. I suggest reading Audizine.com - most members have had no real problems even with high mileage.

My C7 A6 also had terrible brake squeal under 40 degrees. I swapped pads to akebono and it maintained the same bite and braking power without the squeal.

I own a 2015 Audi S4 as well and I have 2 that I have no idea how you missed. 1. The cup holders! One big and one small....the small one is annoying and almost not even usable. Except for maybe a bottle water? 2nd thing, the sun glass holder. Not big enough to hold a mans typical pair of sunglasses. Maybe a super small pair of reading glasses but that might even be pushing it.

Things I dont like about my 2013 S4 are the brake dust! Especially with silver wheels they get dirty SO QUICKLY. The brakes are also a little funky when crawling at low speeds. Also with the DCT, downshifts can be a tad laggy at times. But almost everything else about the car is amazing!
@freakymrq6 жыл бұрын
Chuck Jim brake dust is unreal, bought a pressure washer just for my s4 rims xD
@AMF962 жыл бұрын
Try upgrading the brake pads.. I’ve learned from living on a hill for quite a few years that not all brake pads are created equal.. cheap low quality pads put out a ton of brake dust and don’t last nearly as long.. upgrade to some Duralast Gold pads. I went from the cheap standard pads to the Duralast Gold pads and there’s a world of difference between the two..
