I like to think that back in the 70s Dan Obanon and other creators of Alien script used Weyland-Yutany just as a fancy name and and could not have expected all the lore that’d follow it

There IS a reason why the name "Weyland" is used in ALIEN originally. Dan O'Bannon had already stated that his main two inspirations in creating and writing ALIEN was Giger's art which made him want to make a "Giger Monster Film", and H.P. Lovecraft, and that last part is very important, since the Weyland name is directly taken from Lovecraft's work for ALIEN. As for Yutani, I would have to look more into, since I'm not sure that name may be in Lovecraft's work as well, I'm missing a few of his novels.

@@EternalRoman the corporate element was NOT in the original Dan O'Bannon script. That was added by Walter Hill and David Giler to make it more nuanced and also a reflection of dissolution people felt in the 70s.

Yes, the Company element and the Android were added by the would be thieves producers, Walter Hill and David Giler, yet many elements of the core story were came from Lovecraft's influence in O'Bannon, since among other elements, the entire story was indeed inspired by Lovecraftian lore, and this is documented and came from O'Bannon's own mouth on video. You seem to forget that including producer Gordon Carroll, the other two were caught by O'Bannon trying to not only rewrite the script entirely present it as theirs, but also essentially steal creator rights from O'Bannon and Shusett. So the additions were minimal. There's also the whole misconception that Ridley Scott came up with all of the ideas on the film, which is not true. O'Bannon was also the Supervising Visual Consultant on the film, he and Scott worked together throughout the film, and to the chagrin of the producers, he was also in all the departments. So when it came to ideas that O'Bannon mentioned to the producers, he had to have Scott be his proxy, because the anger of the producers being found out, they would not accept words from O'Bannon and humiliate, berate and argue with him in front of the production crew daily... A production group that O'Bannon himself also brought to the project including Giger himself. Again, all of this is documented, and it can be found on videos and articles not controlled by FOX.

Pretty mindblowing to think that the tech Weyland Yutani and almost every character uses throughout the franchise came from Alien technology. Even though Requiem is not canon it’s interesting to think if Weyland or someone else at one point also came across something like this, and put it to use.

Charles Wayland from that first one IS (to me) the original founder of what WOULD eventually become, the company. I follow the theory that the aliens time line is soldier to blade runner to aliens and there is no predator in that particular universe. While in the Predator universe only alien exists. This Yutani theory works nicely for both of those separate time lines.

Interesting. It's hard to say what is and isn't canon as far as the recent games go. The devs for Alien : Blackout went out of business in 2019 and only lasted for five years. They didn't exactly set the world on fire. Thanks to Randy Pitchfork and his creative accounting Fox moved away from Sega (despite Alien Isolation) and in 2018 anounced Aliens : Fireteam Elite would be developed in house by Cold Iron Studios. It came out in 2021 and was very average. The games I know of that are in development aren't really cause for hope either. One from Survios a studio I've never heard of and a RTS from Focus. Yikes. This franchise could do with a little love. The dream ticket would obviously be Sega/Creative Assembly.

The PS2 video game PREDATOR CONCRETE JUNGLE has an unspecified Japanese male, apparently the CEO of Yutani, meaning a member of the Yutani family congratulating a Mr. Weyland on the merger of both Weyland and Yutani companies plus the recovery of the bio hard drive that would be MUTHUR at the end of the game. This Mr. Weyland may also a family be a member of the Weyland family since in the game it is clearly stated that Charles Bishop Weyland disappeared in the expedition on the events on the First AVP film. But the first name of this Yutani was not seen on the credits in the game.

Ridley Scott literally said he doesn't consider AVP canon. So that means that Alien 1, Prometheus and Covenant are their own separate universe. The Yautja race does not exist in Ridley's timeline either.

No but there is when you delve into the actual official Prometheus/Alien timeline. AvP takes place in 2004 Weyland Industries is already a leading company and is created and founded by Charles Bishop Weyland, however in Prometheus the creator and founder of Weyland Industries is Peter Weyland and he didn't establish Weyland Industries until 2012.

I think they should reunite the two lores of predators and alien. But without creating a big mess. Just creating a compelling and interesting story, that doesn’t interfere too much with the main story, but that’s actually canon. Avp was a cool concept, but for me was poorly executed, especially the second chapter.

WRONG! The AVP movies ARE connected to the other Alien movies! None of the movies have ever been "decanonized", and the very notion is completely nonsensical. Also, the Alien: Uncivil War (2024) novel again reaffirms that Cullen Yutani from AVPR and The Predator exists in the same universe as Peter Weyland.
