DSP has this unique talent of always picking the wrong option in every encounter. Zombies in a tight corridor that connects two important parts of the game? Better try running past all of them, taking several hits in the process, because "ammo management dood!" Zombies in a wide, open area at the edge of the map? "Better kill them all, in case we have to come back!"

I was just going to comment something similar because he amazingly chooses to keep the cables, which he won't need yet, in place of the lockpick which is required to get the manhole opener, which he absolutely will need far before he needs the cables. It's stunning how capable of wrong decisions he is, and even more stunning how just in some cosmic sense, he ends up being wrong in general about most things.

@@schtolteheim_reinbach_ii707 the best rule for a classic RE newcomer (or hardcore REmake players since those also use ink ribbons) is to first learn the ideal places for saving since doing so itself is using resources, so ideally they will want to save after two or three obstacles. In the case of this game, I'd say: Before the RPD. Before the Raccoon Press. Before entering the last building for the final train part (as Nemesis will be waiting once you're done). Once in the clock tower. Before the mandatory Nemesis encounter. Entering the hospital. Before passing to Jill. Before the Gravedigger. Before and after the mutated Nemesis fight. Of course, I never bothered to try an A-rank run, so that's how I consider ideal save spots for a safe run in this game, since those don't really make you lose an awful ton of progress whilst giving you enough leeway to screw up in the Nemesis encounters. Well, those are the ones I'd recommend to someone who first tries this game or is aiming for a first time hard mode run.

To be fair, the dodge mechanic in this game is very finicky with the timing, sort of like the boomerang in the final boss in Link's Awakening (it has to be one precise pixel/frame or it doesn't work). It was a good idea that they should have carried over (and I'm glad the remake, despite its shortcomings, shows what can be accomplishing by refining an idea).

There are people out there who play the game without dodging once, and there are people who manage to dodge everything and clear the game without taking any damage. In the end, both you and DSP are just whining about additional mechanics that were added to make the sequel to Resident Evil 2 a bit easier to play. It makes you sound like an ungrateful brat. Normal people aren't that dumb.

Zero also didn't carry it over. No idea why you take it as whining over something that was intended to make the game "easier" not being well set on execution... I don't call it RNG because it isn't. I also don't call it a bad choice, so where did this come from? The mechanic is great, it still works when it feels like it and I know because I played the freaking game.

The dodge actually does work. You literally have to learn the timing cause it's really a small window, about as small as DSP's brain, so you have to be pretty much frame perfect every time.

It can still be hard to dodge some attacks, specifically zombie grabs, but I've been able to pull it off with good timing, and I've seen people accomplish it multiple times in a row, so it's safe to say that it works now.

Birky Boi Yeah, I found Nemesis the easiest to dodge because his animations are very clear and telegraphed. The zombies sway and stagger so judging the timing of their lunges is trickier, but I practiced a bit on the first zombie when you leave the subway and got it down to at least not getting grabbed. I can see mastery of this being essential on Hardcore mode. I can’t wait.

For people who are less knowing of this game: the NPCs being killed that are shown in the video (and Dave likely shows in the playthrough since he goes back to the warehouse) are part of a leftover of a plan for the game to have a "save citizens" mechanic, to obtain rewards and other stuff. The NPCs and their deaths are inevitable in the game as released for any of its versions, they will all die no matter what you do. This also includes Dario Rosso. That being said, this does happen in The Mercenaries mode, where it gives you time and sometimes resources. In that minigame you have to get to the warehouse back room to clear the mode and you can play as Carlos, Nicholai and Mikhail. You can accumulate points and obtain bonuses for the regular playthrough, including weapons with unlimited ammo and an infinite bullet being the most expensive (Dave mentions the bullet as an easy mode reward and it is, should you take down the Nemesis every time he drops a bullet to give a weapon unlimited ammo; in hard mode he drops the assault rifle). Unlike RE2 though, this game's rewards are independent of your rank: you basically just have to keep beating it to unlock the boutique and costumes for Jill. And of course the unlimited stuff is Mercenaries mode.

@@corey1054 there's a lot of fun stuff for this game. That was part of it and the randomized items also involved how the game was made: they made it an RE randomizer to encourage replay value because, well, it was only one story unlike RE2, which had four scenarios. They're not what we know as randomizers themselves, though, for example the grenade launcher and the magnum have two fixed places. The shotgun also has two places IIRC. Then there's the multiple ways a playthrough can go depending on when and how you do story events (like leaving the restaurant from the back door, or the sewer, or the main entrance). There are three endings that are fixed a la SMT endings (to make a comparison of a game where things aren't always the same despite having only specific endings), which are the Carlos ending (which Dave got), the Barry ending and the Carlos and Barry ending. The ending is decided by, specifically, the dead factory events: 1. Nemesis encounter outside: pushing him off locks you into the Carlos ending. Jumping off means you're out of the Carlos only ending no matter what. 2. Helicopter encounter near the end: this only happens if you jumped off in the Nemesis encounter. Choice 1 means Nicholai leaves; Carlos doesn't leave with Jill. Blowing up Nicholai gives you the Carlos and Barry ending. AFAIK the only real changes are the stills post-credits, epilogues are unlocked by playthroughs. Can you tell I love RE2 and 3?

If anyone's wondering, yeah, DSP knows that everyone hates him and that's why he acts like he's brain dead and kept yelling "No ink ribbons" thousand times cause he knew that would piss off everyone. 57:18 Regarding those two commentators that scene is Nikolai faking his own death so that Nemesis does not come after him. As he quickly realized that Nemesis was not targeting only Jill but also her allies. Thus making it canon at least in the original 3 the Remake does away with that scene entirely.

I hate what they did to Nicholai in REmake 3. Leaving him behind to die in Raccoon City was really stupid, since it renders the remake non-canon. Sheena Island is referenced in Resident Evil Zero, so RE Survivor must be canon, and that game includes a file from Nicholai, that he wrote AFTER the events of RE3. Capcom really screwed up the story by not using the Barry helicopter ending (the canon ending of the PS1 game).
