I can see how helpful your videos would be for beginners but also others. I've been painting for years & you reminded me of some of the things we might get away from & then wonder what's wrong with our painting. I love how you keep it loose. TFS:)

This is wonderful! I almost feel I’m there looking over your shoulder. The location is stunning, perfect perspective, colours and shadows and the sound of the waterfall creates an energetic feel to the scene. I’ve seen no cars either. Bliss! Do you drive around for hours looking for the right place? I love your very thorough demos and enthusiasm and it’s a beautiful painting. Thank you so much.

Awesome! So happy to be able to help inspire! I remember when I first started it seemed hard to find basic beginner level info so I wanted to reel it in a bit and teach some basics for beginner plein air artists! The response has been wonderful so far!

Shape into shape, color into color. Thanks for saying that. That is the difference between painting and coloring. I’ve tried to explain that in the past and could not quite express it properly. 👍

Kyle, I watched the video this morning before going to the studio to do some painting before work. I gotta say, thank you so much for being willing to share this! The amount of knowledge you're communicating is invaluable to me as a novice plain air painter. Maybe sometime this year or next I could entice you and/or your wife to come to SW Oklahoma and do some plain air painting. I live in Lawton, OK which is ten minutes from The Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in the heart of the Wichita mountains. The Wichita Mts are very different from those where you live but they definitely have a unique beauty all their own.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge of painting. I love the painting. I think the lighting on the canvas made it a little difficult to see the painting as it was being developed but still a lot of good information.

Thanks:) the website was down for a little while earlier today. I think its fixed now. i use Royal Talens paint. they make two different series..one is called Rembrandt paints and the other less expensive kind is called vangogh oil paint. Id say use the best you can afford. the paint is pretty tacky so it stays on the palette..i only use the vertical palette for demos though:) thanks for watching! glad you enjoyed it!

I like your website too. The background color reminds me of your canvas after you first tone it. Beautiful paintings too. Maybe one day, I 'll be lucky enough to take a workshop from you. In the meantime, I just subscribed to your newsletter. All my best to you and looking forward to more videos and art from you.

Hi Kyle. I started plein air painting 3 or 4 years ago and I have a few teaching DVDs. Whilst these are very slick due to to the involvement of a production company they are not nearly as informative as your demo,s. I have used rags and kitchen roll to pull out negative shapes from a freshly toned canvas before but it had not occurred to me to use the kitchen paper as a brush so I,m really looking forward to trying it the next time I get out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience

Peter Lloyd , thanks so much! Glad to hear that you are finding the videos helpful. I knew that if I started with communicating the ideas that I had in my mind that I could work on my production as the videos progressed. I felt that students would respond to the "no bull" way of communicating some basic ideas and that the fancy production could come later. Thanks so much for the positive feedback! There is a slight learning curve to the paper towel technique but once you master it, the benefits of it will last a lifetime! Have fun and happy painting!

My colors keep mixing into brown on the canvas, and not layering, like they are mixed; what am I doing wrong?
@theartfulsouls4529
@theartfulsouls4529 3 жыл бұрын
Try using a little more medium mixed into your paint to make it flow off of your brush. Also make sure to wipe most of the dark off of the canvas when you stain it. We want this to be a very thin stain with very little pigment. If this underpainting gets too thick it will mix with the layers on top. Another technique is to approach the canvas with a more direct application of the paint.. in other words try to figure out exactly what color you want and then lay it on there without messing with it too much after you put it down. Hope this helps!

By the way, what brand of oil paint do you use? How do you keep it from sliding it off your palette?
@theartfulsouls4529
@theartfulsouls4529 6 жыл бұрын
AlonzoTheArmless ,I use Royal Talens paint...it tends to be sticky enough to stay on the palette..but I don't usually work with a vertical pallete..that's just for the video.:)
