It's actually tiring and often stressful, not exciting, to have to go out or travel a lot. Not ashamed to admit, I enjoy being a homebody (save a LOT of cash that way too), and working with my hobbies. I cannot be with a partner who is inwardly restless and has to always go, go, go. If you love dealing with heavy, slow moving traffic, more power to you. However, I must have AC in this hot climate. It's hard to understand how expats do without it. Finally, if you want to live a long, healthy life, right diet and exercise are a MUST. Get up and get moving. That all being said, the Philippines is not the greatest place on earth, nor the cheapest. Travel to other countries or, at the very least, spend several months to a year here before you commit.

The biggest thing that the most important thing is a steady monthly income every month. Most of us can't retire yet so to just pack up and move to the Philippines and knowing that you financially don't have a steady income. understand if you have a lot of money saved up. And you can just pick up and leave. The money you have saved for a long time will run out. If you don't have a steady income that is what I believe is most important.

Living a western lifestyle in the Philippines is definitely expensive. They come here to expecting the same lifestyle for half the price, and that just isn't realistic. It's actually more expensive to live a western life style in the Philippines vs. the US. Especially if you want western style foods. Beef is absolutely expensive here.
@JamesHickman-g5c4 күн бұрын
@@keinlieb3818 Is there any one western lifestyle? Probably not. Good food, exercise, and sunshine is all you really need. Well, AC, too. People that say 'western lifestyle' often really mean 'tourist mode' where they feel compelled to travel and eat out a lot (did we do that in the West? I didn't). True, some foods are expensive or even impossible to find; however, eating healthy is not hard if you cook at home. Actually, I don't believe it's western lifestyle that breaks the bank, rather it's being with a woman who is too expensive for you and/or treats you like an ATM. No matter what you did in your home country and how successful you were, this place is different. Yes, we can speak the same language but the culture difference is much more than new expats realize. You must come here and crawl, walk then run, there is no shortcut to the learning curve, it takes 12-18 months before you start to understand the culture here. New guys need to take the first year and focus on what they want retirement life to look like and learn about the country. Dating and finding a new wife should not be your number one goal at the start, give it time and when you do start dating go very slow with everything especially marriage. If you can make it past 8 years you should be good to go, for me the 8th year is when everything seems to hit at once and you realize just how hard living here can be. Be patient, and be flexible with everything and always have plan a, b and c for every possible scenario that could arise here. And yes you can live well on $1500 a month, especially in a small town or province. Life can be very good here but it takes hard work, time and a little luck.

For me being in the ExPat community I have found that the Philippines has everything that I need and want. Besides doing 6 months of researching everything about what real life is like. I had visited the country 2 times in the Past 10 years. Plus having a good friend who when he was in the Navy was stationed at Subic Bay back in the early and mid 80’s and married a Filipina then moved her and her daughter back to the states told me he loved it and was always telling me to go there and see for myself and this was decades ago.Unfortunately he passed away before I made my 1st trip here so it always stuck in my mind to one day come here And I did in 2017 & 2018 and once I got here to Manila it reminded me so much of New York in terms of population and that big city vibe. Now being here in Malate for over a year I have been thru power outages and typhoons . So I look at that as the cost of living here . Yes the infrastructure compared to Long Island is inferior but it is something you deal with. I came here not to meet a Filipina to marry being 68 yrs old I just was looking for a nice partner that we can share time with. I have gotten use to Filipino time in terms of being patient for things like food or waiting at the BOI to renew my visa stays . I have learned getting older to take your time smell the roses or for me to just sit on my balcony and look over Manila Bay and contemplate life and the fact that I achieved what I wanted and where I wanted to be in my retirement years as it was either Thailand where I have been to twice before or here and personally I made the right choice. And it was very close but what took me to making the Philippines 🇵🇭 my choice was remembering what a great friend told me and having Filipino co workers more recently telling me to come visit the country during vacation.

Well it's up to what a particular individual feels comfortable with as far as a monthly budget is concerned. While I do have access to more, I only allot myself $1,500 each month. I live in a condo in a gated community with 24 hour guards, and within 5 minutes walk of a SM Mall. I have a girlfriend and I go places for entertainment and eat out etc, and I still save almost 400 every month. I live about an hour and a half outside of Manila, but go there to hangout pretty often. So location is key, and of course what you like to do. But most guys don't need to spend more than $1,500 a month to live pretty well in the Philippines, unless they're money wasters and don't plan out their expenditures well. But if you want to live in BGC and eat western food daily, then yeah, your probably looking at $3,000 and up depending.

If you don't make on 1500 you shouldn't b3 staying Philippines and if can't cook you should stay America...the food has high sugars.. I found out cooking is better and drinking is worst thing can do .. look into God or giving some time to the kids

I moved to the Philippines and left a year later. I couldn't tolerate the roaches; they were everywhere! In the airports, malls, grocery stores, and restaurants.

Dollar goes a LOT farther here. Here in Bohol, we have several power outages a month, and water outage almost weekly (due to a private company with growing pains that services our rental property). I lived off grid in the US and my Filipina wife is a province girl ... so we roll with it. Working towards setting up a homestead here like I had back in Arizona ... well with pressure tank, generator and solar. All of those are way cheaper than in the US. Yeah, some expats here are train wrecks. The main reason I like it here is that I never hear words like patriarchy, misogyny or toxic masculinity. Extra points that nobody knows (or cares) who Trump or Biden are. If you want Western luxury at better prices ... I recommend BGC (Bonifacio Global City) in Manila.

FYI There are more than 300,000 filipinos living and working illegally in usa And they fight tooth and nail to try not to get deported There is a reason for that If they are terrified of returning to the Philippines what makes you think you can live well being a foreigner with zero rights and protectuon ?

Lived there on and off since 1987, from the UK, foreigners must know how the FILIPINOS tick, and how the Filipino family is all powerful a foreigner can never be number one in any Pinays heart, as the saying goes UTANG NA LOOB simplel lang sana-all, learn the language is a MUST, your there friend until you have no money walang Pera, then the Filipinos will not WASTE their time with you, as nothing in it for them, forger the smiles and Mabuhay and yes Sir etc etc that is just a front Talaga.. Ray in the UK ingat ka

That’s not universally true. You can find a woman who will prioritize your needs over her family’s needs. With regard to people needing money from you, make sure they add value to you, and do what you need them to do, first.

You bring up some very good points. I plan on moving to the D.R. by 2026. I go there at least two times a year. I have linked up with a couple of Expat Veterans groups there, and it also helps to know the language where you want to go. Good balanced and unbiased video 👍🏿 🛂✈️💺🌊⛱️This is the way!
