"Self taught" is not really impressive when one is born with a tremendous degree of natural talent. Tatiana is simply a natural talent, so this is simply who she is and how she is built. In fact, this applies to all singers. Being born the ability to do something, like singing, is far different than learning how to do something that you were not naturally gifted with. Self taught is only an impressive thing when we're talking about learning the guitar or the piano.
@Certaminis
@Certaminis 2 жыл бұрын
@@RumbleFish69 you could also say the same thing about piano and guitar. There are child prodigies who have an unnatural gift with instruments. Tatiana's talent is extremely impressive, especially considering the style of singing she does. A lot of self taught screamers do it wrong and damage their voices. The fact the she has proper technique without training is definitely something to be applauded.

I figured it out! FINALLY! I’ve seen this video a million times. For some reason, today, I focused on her chest plate. When she does her “growls” her shoulders start a little forward and start to slowly pull back. If you watch the top of her chest plate, just below her neck where collar bones meet, you’ll see it puffs up. Like NOTICEABLY. Like a bird. Then when she goes back to “normal singing voice” it deflates and flattens. It happens every time! Puffs for growls, flattens for “normal.” I have watched singers (and admired and sing myself, personally not professionally) and I have NEVER seen this before! I will certainly watch more of her videos and make sure I’m right. But I’m pretty sure I nailed where she’s “storing” her power and control for this growl. It’s idea is foreign to me, but it’s the only thing that makes sense! Since her style cannot be fully “pinned” by any vocalists. You being the magic voice wonder, too!

Yeah, that's especially apparent with the song "Pisces" - it's fun watching the vocal coaches get surprised when she screams for the first time, but they all start with evaluating her singing at the beginning. It's all favorable, with people ranging from "solid" to "impeccable control" to "this is dreamy." She could absolutely do what you said, no question.

Next in line for Jinjer, their live performance of Teacher, teacher (in Melbourne, Australia). It got released a few weeks ago and she outdoes herself in clean vocals compared to Pisces. Live, raw, and highly recommended

Yes, it's super funny and catchy, but I think it's not her kind of metier or focus and doesn't fit in well with her content so far.

Elizabeth, I absolutely LOVE your genuine passion for music, which is super obvious from watching your amazing facial expressions, and your very technical commentary on vocal technique. Despite being out of music for decades, I'm inclined to seek lessons from you.

Please do Dimmu Borgir - Gateways live with the orchestra. You get two different vocalists for the price of one. It has a lot more screaming and vocal fry, both singers are amazing at what they do. Love the videos!

I love how Tatiana juts her jaw forward whenever she's going heavy. I've noticed it in other videos, as well. It's almost like she's "unleashing the beast" physically. ;-)

Tatiana is such a bad ass. I love hearing what you get excited about, your emotionality is really fun to ride along with. Also I want to add my voice to the chorus of people requesting SpiritBox's Courtney Le Plante perorming Rule of Nines single take video as well. I think you'd get a kick out of her, different vocal style from Tatiana, but oh dang can she do both as well.

Seeing Tatiana sing this song in the setting she is in is amazing. What a talented singer. Seeing an attractive women singing such beautiful parts followed by death screams is fascinating and unexpected. I would love to see more of her singing in this setting.

Trombonist here. The shoulder thing - yup, moving shoulders is not necessary to facilitate breathing. But the opposite can be true, in the sense that raising the ribcage to increase air capacity can cause the shoulders to move around some. I get the impression that Tatiana's "extremes" takes tons and tons of air, so if she's really burning through her air capacity, going from empty to really full involves using every available breathing muscle, which includes the deep diaphragm-driven expansion downwards, raising the rib cage, and keeping the back at a proper upright arch. I also see such aggressive breathing in very aggressively playing brass players, especially trumpeters like the great Bill Chase.

There's an acapella version of "Tears of the Dragon" by Bruce Dickinson that he did live on stage in March. It's incredible to hear him sing the song at age 61, with no loss of power and range. Check it out!
