You know the Navy considered the LCS program a failure

Ship design and materials was almost a complete failure too many structural cracks to be counted

47 knots? Damn...that is really fast.

Waterjets have revolutionized marine capabilities. Basically a turbine pump that can squirt water in any direction, and far more efficient than unshrouded propellors. Coupling that with advanced hydrodynamic science/engineering applied to hull design and there are some very fast boats these days....I believe Polaris has a line of civilian watercraft that use this propulsion system

These are inshore vessels, they appear to be ideal for amphibious warfare. Perfect for screening the operations surrounding an invasion from the sea......

While they can go in shallow water, they are not ideal for amphibious warfare, LCS Littoral combat ships and the Navy considered the program a failure

@@PaulJohnson-lv6tt As a ten year Navy Veteran, I've seen some cases where the Navy brought a new (or semi-new) ship online to evaluate its performance. You'd think that this would have been sorted out before they got that far along but apparently not. The new ship would be designed with a particular purpose in mind but "Mission Creep" is a common malady in government purchasing. The new ship would get introduced for a mission that it would perform pretty well, but somebody sitting at "a nearby desk" would think, "that probably would work for my project too." The result would be that the new ship evolved in a modified manner and the result didn't perform either task adequately. Thereby, it failed its introduction testing and its reputation got trashed. If the people introducing it had been allowed to stick to the original purpose, it probably would have been successful.

@MrGaryGG48 well as a Navy vet myself almost everything about the LCS was a failure cracking, design flaws, transmission and a whole host of other things
@PaulJohnson-lv6tt2 күн бұрын
@MrGaryGG48 to tell you the truth I would not have wanted to be on that ship, the smallest ship I was ever on was an LHA, USS Nassau

@@PaulJohnson-lv6tt this was an obama era program. The problem was inadequate funding. Remember the sequester??? Like all naval shipbuilding programs, the first few have 'teething' problems. During WWII, liberty ships were breaking up in the harsh conditions of the North Atlantic. Essex class carriers (which were 3rd generation) had a fatal design flaw concerning ventilation.....If a mass conflagration broke out on the flight or hangar deck, the smoke would be sucked into the ventilation systems for the engineering spaces and suffocate the snipes....

The littorals are not 'massive combat ships'. An aircraft carrier would be massive.

What a bunch of crap. I was in the Navy & ate as well if not better. That is not anymore special than what this place leaves you to believe. Also, on a ship this size, the Captain is mostly a Commander. The xo is a Lt. Commander. The Captain is the only one who wears a hat with scrambled eggs on the brim. Therefore, the man in this video was the Captain. Also, All commands are given by the Captain, even if he is not in the pilot house. It is run the same way on all ships, unless there is an Admiral on board & it is his Flag ship.

Littoral Combat Ships are under-gunned and under-armored. They were a waste of money. They aren't being deployed to conflict zones. The Navy is trying to sell as many as they can.

I don’t see any giant waves here, nor is this ship massive. An interesting report would be a ride on an AEGIS class destroyer. Never mind. The Navy probably wouldn’t allow you aboard.
