I can’t imagine what you have had to endure. I know that I have gotten through my darkest periods with the help of “my guys.” I originally adopted one and thought he needed a friend like himself. We became the Three Musketeers and were together 12 years. I adopt my next rescue soon after losing one. I can’t think of a better way of honoring them than by sharing the love I still have for each one. My Jesse passed Dec. 1st. The first face I fell in love with online was a little female Pomeranian in need of love. I am grateful to have found her. She was skin and bones, had patchy fur from starvation and fleas. She’s already gaining weight and her fur is coming in. They are so easy to love. I am happy that you have found the same thing I have; you get far more love in return for having them.

I only adopt seniors. So I don’t have “ years “ with them. I do get incredibly bonded to them. I know it’s not for everyone, but I adopt immediately after my babies pass. It not only helps with the incredible grief, but it saves a life too❤

@@lookhowshegobbledthat Me too. Saw a video about a woman who did this, years ago, and have thought about it ever since. I've only had one dog that I raised from a pup. Lost him to cancer at 12 years old. Really didn't think I would get another dog. Told myself that I didn't want to have to get to know another dog, and puppies are a lot of work. Fast forward, 5 years later... adopted a 5 year old German Shepard. She turned out to be very fearful, and a bit of a hot mess, just like her new mom. Getting a German Shepard wasn't the best decision I've ever made. It's really forced me to step up my game as far as training, and overall dog knowledge (dealing with fear aggression). 3 months in, and I love her to death...flaws and all. I'm turning 62 in August, so when it's Lucy's time, I will definitely go with senior dogs.

Exactly, it’s not like there’s only one spot for our fur babies. Each occupies its own distinct place in our hearts and we should always be big hearted enough to embrace a new one. My family has a silly way to force us to do this. We always have 2 cats and a dog so when the dog dies we HAVE to replace them within the year because the cats will get used to not having a dog and it won’t go well later - do that for each pet back and forth. Helps with grieving a lot

I especially agree with cats in particular. We had two cats named Kit Kat and Twix. Both of them were with my family throughout my middle and high school years. Kit Kat, in particular, had become my favorite pet. Both of them were put to sleep within seven months of each other, Kit Kat from cancer and Twix from pneumonia. I was there for both their “putting to sleeps”, and it broke our hearts the full week after the Twix had passed; we had no pets in the house. Exactly a week after Twix had died, Groot came into our lives through my mom’s coworker. My dad brought home Rocket two weeks afterwards. The cats are two months apart in age, and they have really been the crazy blessings in my parents’ lives. I have now moved out of state, but they have surely touched my life too ❤️

They will always be there. My 17 1/2 yr old baby passed and my life and home felt so empty. I was (and am) grateful for the years we had. He was with me through childhood to adulthood. 7 days after he passed, I rescued a dog. I always say that I needed a dog and he needed a home. They couldn’t be more different than each other but I love them both with my whole heart. I still think about my other dog daily, but I think he made room for another to have me to love and spoil on when he couldn’t be here anymore.

Absolutely! In Feb 2022, I was 48 years old and my German Spitz, Yuki, was 16 years old…so I had her for ⅓ of my entire life. She suddenly got ill and passed away the next day. I was traumatized and was struggling mentally. My friend said, “Sean, I think I have the perfect dog for you!” I picked him up from her and he’s been an absolute angel! I even posted a few videos of him, his name’s Duke and he’s a Tibetan Terrier, on my channel just ‘cause he makes me so happy and I hope other people can feel happy from watching him.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I lost my dog Gibson, after an amazing 14.5 years, and was completely devastated! Barely spoke for several days, cried constantly, and felt empty. We waited almost a year until getting another dog. Now we have Calypso, and she is so precious & affectionate. She does remind me of Gibson at times, but she has her own personality and mannerisms. We hope to have her in our lives a long time as well, and that we'll make each other just as happy. It's a bittersweet experience.

Beautiful story that brought me to tears. As with the girl in the video, I lost my beautiful dog of nearly 20 years. This was about a year and a half ago, and I am still very much grieving his loss. There is nothing like the love of a dog and as much as I want to have another one, I feel that emotionally and financially, I’m not at a place where I would be able to dedicate enough time to a dog and although it’s a difficult reality I know that for now unfortunately I cannot have a dog, so I enjoy looking at other dogs seeing them jump and smile. I look forward to the day when I will be able to have a dog once again.

Right on time. My soul dog passed in January and it’s triggering how quiet our home is now. He was my first pup and I finally convinced my parents to let me have one after YEARS. I’m definitely grieving and don’t feel ready for another, but is it wrong that I want another dog that is just like him? Appearance and personality? As crazy as it sounds, I need a barker. I miss my baby boy so much, it makes no sense. This grief comes in waves and I just keep crying and asking why.

I have lived this and this is what I can tell you: it’s OK to open your heart to another dog. No, this dog will never replace the one you lost, how could that be? This new bundle of unconditional love will be a new adventure and a reminder to live and love as they do. I struggled so much after losing my baby girl Bitsy: she was the last of our pack and I lost three fur babies in five years. I realized it was the very first time in my entire life that I didn’t have a dog. I discovered very quickly that I’m not meant to be without a dog. But, I struggled with guilt and a myriad of emotions all while looking at rescues online. And then I saw Winnie Stella and that was it for me. I thank God for her every single day. She saved me when I didn’t realize just how much I truly needed saving.

After a loss, to love another pet truly heals the heart. To love again is a heartwarming process.... It doesn't replace the other, it never fixes the pain. So you'll continue to mourn, as you should. Each pet is their own special spirit, and none can ever be compared to one another, in life or in memory. But to rescue another pet in need really helps your heart to learn love again. It's a complex journey for sure. Keep rescuing, keep loving those in need. Always. 💖

Absolutely. I lost my Dutch Shepard the 1st week of New Year. He had become very ill all of a sudden and collapsed in the garden. I laid on the living room floor, cuddling him while he was put to sleep. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do , but i knew it was the last thing i could do to show how much i loved him. Last week, i just happened to come across this add for a one eyed 6 month old Pug. We travelled miles to pick him up. When we got there, we had the urine soaked duvet cover shoved in our arms with this little Pug in it. Under the street light, this little mites eye look blue( the one he had left). This bloke was adamant it was fine. By this time, the smell of urine was overwhelming. We just knew we had to get this pup away from there. As we got round the corner, we un wrapped this puppy and threw the duvet cover in the bin. We put the pup down... it couldn't stand( we actually thought he was paralysed) he was so malnourished and dehydrated. As we got into a lit area, we realised this little mites eye was bulging out of the socket and blue. Racing him to the vet ive been quoted £900 to remove his other eye. I'm desperately trying to find the money. But i know i was supposed to come across this pup for a reason. At 6 months old this beautiful little soul is just about to have his life plunged completely into darkness through someones cruelty 😢 but i know hes come to me for a reason and will finally get to know what its like to be loved.

I had to make the hardest decision of my life to free him from pain. I haven’t been the same since. In comparison to before then, I rarely leave the house more than once a month. My heart still aches. And every time I look at possible adoption pups, I feel either guilt or fear. Seeing your video has helped me more than you know. Thank you so much for sharing. Please be careful while camping especially out west with your fur babies. I recently heard from a friend that a small dog was attacked by a coyote within a short distance from the owner. I had a very precious soul baby through some physically challenging years for me. She also developed a medical condition and it made our bond even more unbelievably strong. I thought I was dying when I lost her. Until my husband provided a miracle. My "new" heart dog and I are both healthy, and our bond is just as incredible, different, precious, and life-affirming. We are inseparable. So when my husband lost his service dog and best buddy, his heart dog, just a handful of months ago... we knew he needed to rescue another furbaby in his boy's honor. As quickly as possible. His new girl hasn't erased his, or my, grief. But she has allowed the healing to begin, and her goofy puppy antics have stolen my husband's heart and given him such valuable distraction from his suffering. Love is love, and it doesn't matter if your baby walks, crawls, flies, or swims... has fur, feathers, or neither. Our hearts don't place limits. ❤

My beloved dog passed in March of 2023. 😢I have been so incredibly lonely, I still think of my fur baby every day. I finally adopted 2 new puppies, I had forgotten how much attention they need, but they have definitely lifted my heart. I’m so excited to have them. I don’t feel like I’ve replaced my baby, I just have more love 💕 in my heart to give to new fur babies.

Omgsh. Ok this one made me cry. I have 2 dogs that are nearing the end of their lifespans. WHEW. Im having trouble typing this 😢. They have both been very special to me in very different ways. But in the same way to. I'm so happy for you and your new soul mate and wish you the best life going forward.

March will be a year since Tippi passed. She was the bestest dog a man like me could ever want. A couple of months later a kitten showed up at our door. My wife now has a cat. I'm holding out for another Bull Terrier. They're so much fun.

I'm so happy for you! I have owned dogs for 30 years and my jake, who was half German shepherd and half beagle, left Earth on January 11th. He would have been 17 in 2 weeks and he was my soulmate, though I have had six other dogs pass on. Unlike you, I am older and I've had some feet issues, even though I've been a lifelong hiker and runner, so I'm not sure what to do next. I know another dog would help, but I'm praying about the feet. I'm so happy for you!

I get it. Its been over 5 years since i losr my best friend of 17 years. We travelled together and it was rare we werent together. I still to this day dont feel I can trust myself to do the best for a new furry friend. Loco still has my heart. Im 67, health issues galore BTW. Im hoping one day my life will again allow me to trust I can do right. It was the greatest love I knew, my son and parents excluded.

We had to say goodbye to our family dog of 15 years, Kobe, at this time last year. My husband initially didn't want another dog, but we found within 3 months that the house was so quiet and lonely without him, and we adopted a puppy that we named Ender. I feel like grief doesn't go away - they're gone, but not forgotten. I'll always miss Kobe - but adopting Ender reminded us of all the love and laughter that having a fur baby can bring into your life.

When you're young it's okay to get a new puppy when you're ready. But when you're old, for me it's not. It's not okay to leave a burden on someone else, much less to leave your puppy with someone it doesn't know because it won't be treated the same, it has a heart and a soul too and feelings to go right along with it. It will know when its owner is no longer around, and yes they do cry!!

Stevie knew you were coming! She was kissing you and so happy Sterling told her all about you, and how you needed Stevie to heal your broken heart. Years ago we lost my cat, Sweetheart. The pain was horrible. I told my husband I never wanted another pet, I couldn't go through it again. He said until we reach our older years we can assume we will outlive our pets, and it will hurt deeply to lose them. But even that isn't a good enough reason to let an animal live a short, sad life when you know you can give them a life of safety and love. Now I am old, and have had many pets to love, not to mention the joy and comfort they've given me! I wish many happy years together for Anna and Stevie. ❤

When you lose one your heart just expands and makes room to love another one. One of the most emotional scenes I ever saw in a movie was in 'What Dreams May Come'. Robin Williams plays a man who dies and he is in this beautiful garden and suddenly running toward him comes 'Katie' the dog he had when he was a child. I cry every time I watch that scene.

So I'm balling my eyes out. I lost my soul dog, Flossie August 22 at 15.5yrs old. She wasn't just my soul dog but my first dog and a very special Therapy Dog who worked alongside me in my counselling practice where I offer counselling with Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT). Losing my companion, co-therapist & bestie like that broke my heart and soul. Since then, Mysti has joined me and she's now 4yrs old and larger than life. She's so very different but I love her so much. This was so very special to watch. Thank you so much. ❤❤❤

if we couldnt accept new doggos into our lives, we'd all spend our lives miserable till the end. the trick for me is to get the new doggo when the old doggos are still around so they can help training by example. and there is no sense of betrayal to feel when the older ones pass on.

Every animal I’ve ever had is my soul pet child. I always say when the last one goes to Heaven, I am done. I can’t do it anymore because losing them is too much. I always end up with 2 or 3 more. In August 2023, I lost my sweet boy cat I rescued 4 years before. His death trashed me. I have 2 cats still and was good with that. Almost a month to the day I left our local shelter with a beautiful lab pitbull mix girl doggy. I knew my sweet boy put us together. I am still grieving terribly over him. He was sick the entire time we were together. His last 6 months were not great, but he was somewhat better. Then, he just dive bombed and was gone within 3 weeks. We just didn’t have enough time together. I am so grateful for the lovely girl he sent me snd his brother cat and sister cat. My heart is forever broken, but it’s whole enough to give and receive the unconditional love of animals.

The best time to adopt a new cat or dog is when your beloved one is sick & getting ready to pass over. That way, you don't grieve alone and you transfer the love onto the new kitten or puppy. It also perks up the sick animal to see a new friend in the house. It's worked for me through 2 transitions beautifully.

I had a Cairn Terrier for 18 years. I got him 1 month after my dad died. He healed my heart. I waited 6 years to get another dog. I got Zigzag March 13 during covid and I couldnt work. Hes special needs and cant do anything on his own. I believe animals come into your life when they are supposed to. Congratulations on Stevie. I believe your dog sent her to you. God Bless and enjoy your travels.

At 22 I got my first dog as an adult. I was living on a MT ranch 7miles from town. Walter was Chow/Lab/Shepard. We hiked, snow-shoed, fished, & swam in lakes & rivers. He passed away at 5 from complications of Lupus. As I held my new adopted malamute/heeler/lab I sobbed saying I don't know if I could love him as much as Walter. My husband said I didn't need to love him the same. He said I had so much love to give, it's more than the new puppy can handle. Bailey lived to be 15yo. Never stop loving, never stop adopting, never stop rescuing!!

I’ve been there. You need your grieve time, but you’re also giving another wonderful friend a chance at a great life. My first dog, was a family dog, we had him for 17 years. I was 12 when we got him. We loved him so much, so it took a time of grieving before I got another dog. I got another dog 6 months later, And I was lucky enough to have him for 14 years. I always feel it’s the right thing to do, give a dog (puppy or grown dog) a chance for a great life.
