it's a shame because wild animals that grow up with humans being their caregiver actually associate themselves with being a human given their upbringing so releasing them into the wild means that they don't know how to associate with animals of their same species or breed with them.

Speaking what was on most of our minds. And to add to that...Chris went about it the right way. To not rehab it to eventually become a pet, but to eventually release it back into the wild. I Guarantee it was damn tough on Chris to say no to Acorn wanting more family time and staying inside their home. But hey, the outdoors are his home, and little Acorn learned that. You know that Chris missed him once he didn't really see ol' Acorn outside. But seeing that nest made his fricken day. Like a Walt Disney ending that Acorn built his little squirrel house inside of Chris's property. Writing a story here, sorry.

We rescued three baby squirrels one year. What a group of characters they were! We had seen an adult squirrel dead in the road and then a couple of days later found little baby squirrels that had gotten so hungry that they climbed out of the nest. We gathered them up and fed them in our enclosed back porch for a couple of weeks and then they were ready to go off into the world and live the squirrel life. It was great fun caring for them.

That was such a touching story. I love the fact that he was willing to nurture this orphan squirrel, yet he knew that it was mandatory that the squirrel be returned back to nature. Me and my family have done stuff like this over the years for some birds, and it's one of the most rewarding feelings to watch them as they return back to nature. I've never actually gone to school for anything dealing with animals, but I've watched programs, read thousands of books, and I've intently listened for over 45 plus years to some of the best in the business as it pertains to a multitude of animals on land and in the sea. I may not hold a doctorate in any of these fields, but that doesn't lessen my own love and dedication to the preservation of nature.

How sweet! I had found a baby squirrel years ago, nursed him with an eyedropper as you did, named him Rusty. Anyway, he used to sit by the door and wait for my husband to get off work, he knew the exact timing! He would run up his pantleg and crawl up to his shoulder and sit! I let him go finally but I still used to call his name, after so long, I never heard from him. But one day I called his name and I heard a noise on my neighbors roof, looked up and there was Rusty wagging his tail and chattering to me, I was so happy and then out of the blue another squirrel showed up at the top of the roof and they both slid down together to the gutter, just like a chip n dale cartoon! It was sooo cool! Rusty found his Love and came back to show me! Your story brought me back such a fond n lovely memory, thank you! Had to share mine!

@@derpaderpy4931 yes, this is all true! My husband and I lived in denison tx at the time near lake texoma. That baby squirrel fell out of a nest, I kept him in one of my furry houseshoes at first which was adorable to me! Rusty was so smart, he woyld climb up on my kitchen table and lift the lid off my sugar bowl and help himself! Loved that little guy but knew I had to eventually let him go. He really did come back n slide down the neighbors roof along with his girlfriend, just like a walt disney movie ! Just like chip n dale! Im so happy you liked one of my favorite memories! Batman passed away a week before ,he had bleeding in the anus .I'm so traumatized. He was just a month old ... My aunt said that he died because I closed his home ( a box) too tightly.... I guess I killed him unintentionally.... I killed my own baby . 😖😖😖 He was so cute ,I had a lot of future plans to do with him when he opened his eyes😖 everything goes in vain.

The restraint it takes, to just nurse up an animal, to release it to the wild, as the ultimate goal, is very admireable, and selfless. Because you bond with the animal, more than it does with you, since animals have the natural instinct to live in the wild, humans dont. So I really respect the sentence "The goal wasnt to make him a pet, it was to rehabilitate him".

Im going to try giving him avocado soon...Theres something very relaxing about watching them while they sit and eat and not be scared of you...I too could never harm them and would come down hard on any one that would.
