We got a rescue beagle a couple months ago. He is super affectionate and loves his new life! The only issue we're having is potty training, since he was cruelly kept in a small cage his entire life. So if you do adopt one (especially a male), it helps to have hardwood floors 😊

To potty train... When sitting around put a leash around your ankle then if he gets out of sight you'll know. You have to catch him in the act or just before and then pick him up or just take him outside. Set aside 1 week and I'll bet he gets the idea. Don't forget to reward him afterwards, after he gets it wean off the rewards or do it cold turkey because he gets the idea after so many times. One week is better than continuing for his life and it will save you the frustration. Clap your hands when he's peeing to get him to stop but don't yell or say anything to him he'll know it's you and will get negative reinforcement relating it to you. You want to stay trusted. If you don't want to make such a loud noise then close a book quickly for a softer sound as to not upset him. I understand your frustration and I don't believe in diapering them inside. Hope this helps. Just a suggestion. Pee pads are helpful too but kind of difficult to get them to realize what to do, besides, they can get expensive.

A dog from a background like that may contine marking even when otherwise fully potty trained. If your little guy exhibits this, maybe consider a 'belly band', which is basically a washable penis-only diaper for male dogs. I don't have the expertise to give behavioral tips to stop the behavior, but if it comes to it this approach will at least keep the urine contained.

@@thebastcat5037 belly bands are fine but, some can't afford the extra and you can break hike urination easily you just have to get them to trigger their thought in order to understand that some things aren't allowed inside the home. If a dog nips do you let it continue? No, you trigger them to think "this is unacceptable". Any unwanted behavior is trainable you just have to set aside time and be dedicated to it every minute, every hour, every day for a few days - a week is usually enough besides, when you clean urine with vinegar it becomes unattractive to the dog. Potty pads also can cause irritation to the skin - it's better to train dedicated for a week than spending a dog's life on pads that are just going to be more expensive and sometimes vet bills for treating their irritated skin. What do you do if they urinate the pad during the night and they develop a rash? Or bacterial infection, or pull it off because you just can't get them used to wearing them, especially stubborn breeds - lol like Beagles! No offense taken, I'm just making a point. Luxuries are great but convenience has its troubles sometimes.

@@jjradV I'm not technically vegan or vegetarian. My emphasis has been on consuming more vegetables, fruit and water lately. That's just my own personal journey that I'm not trying to force on anyone else. I just haven't had chicken or beef this year. I've heard about how some animals aren't treated ethically in some instances. I think it'd be better for those animals to have free range instead of being stuck together as they are in factory farms.

My mother rescued a dog, that the neighbors left tied to a tree day and night, no shelter, on a 5' chain. Then, one day, they just moved, and left her behind, and of course, she was pregnant. My mother took her in, got all TEN puppies adopted, and kept the mother. The poor dog had only ever been abused, but she was still SO sweet and gentle. Had no idea how to play, and every time we would try to play, or raise the toy to throw, she would cower. It was obvious she was abused. She only associated hands with pain. So, one day, I had the epiphany to try my feet. I started patting at the ground like a dog paws at the ground when they are playing. Making silly noises, praising her, and finally, one day she GOT IT. She started pawing back, and I did the "playful barking" noises at her, and you could see her start smiling and getting excited. I would drag her rope toy across the ground, not in the air, and the day she learned tug-of-war was SO AWESOME. It didn't take long to graduate to wrestling using our hands, and she finally understood that hands could mean joy, too. One of my most rewarding animal rehab experiences.

I adopted one of these cuties in March (same company, different facility who was abusing them) and it's been a mix bag of joy and heartbreak watching her experience even the tiniest things. Shadows? Terrifying. The fan sitting in the corner of the room? Enemy, must bork. A squeaky ball? Damn good fun, but where does that noise keep coming from? It's heartbreaking b/c she's 2 and she's been robbed of these experiences. But on the flip side in fills me with absolute delight to know she CAN experience these things now, and does. I carried her on our daily walks for 3 months straight before she was brave enough to take a few steps, and even then it was little increments before she'd shut down. That's what these dogs require though - baby steps, and so so much patience. But absolutely worth it.

This is an incredible story and I applaud those who helped ensure this beautiful animal gained the freedom and love she deserves! On the flip side, I firmly believe that EVERY human monster who's EVER subjected innocent animals to these laboratory horrors, should themselves be forced to endure those same horrors for the rest of eternity. I love this channels videos but this one is truly wonderful! That poor little thing didn’t even know it was a dog. I also think beagles are one of the cutest dog breeds there is as well. Just don’t care for their bark lol……

It's amazing what these foster parents do. The bond they get and the love they share is absolutely incredible. And then they sadly have to say goodbye. I know I couldn't do it. True heros. Hoping she has the best life ever and gets nothing but love and attention ❤😊

You transformed her back to a true beagle! Most rescue stories are homeless, breeders. I feel stunned to find dogs are used in labs still. Thought that ended years ago. So sad & cruel. Unnecessary ☹️
