I was diagnosed in November 2021 with a 14.5 A1c. It is now 5.9 without medication. I'm a type 2 diabetic. Lower carb, CGM, lifting weights and walking 10K-12K steps a day. Lifting weights was the game changer for me.

Props to you!! I cannot stress how important resistance training with weights is FOR ALL AGES. As you found out, it is a game changer. The large muscles in your body really soak up glucose, and we all need to maintain muscle mass as we age.

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing this. My father collected his pathology report last night, which indicates his HbA1c level is 11.22%. He's 65 and has had type 2 diabetes since 2013. His urine report indicates a 4+ level of glucose in his urine. He's been feeling lightheaded lately, and a couple of times we've had to hold him back from falling down. I'm extremely worried for him since we live in a remote village in Pakistan where good medical care is almost inaccessible to us. Could you please share some more details about how you successfully controlled your A1c? Do you think it would be possible without medication, given my father's age and A1c level? Your help would be highly appreciated! 💗

I have been IF (8:00pm - Noon), taking ACV 🤢 and KETO WHEN I DO eat. For about 1 month I have been yoyoing THE SAME 5 lbs the whole time. BUT my BS went WAY DOWN. I have skipped MANY doses of metformin 😊

I went from 14.5 when diagnosed down to 6.1 in 6 months. Excited to see next results in 3 months. Eliminated sugar ( as much as possible) reduced carbs, got rid of white bread and pasta entirely. Supplements like berberine, R-ALA, bittermelon & Apple cider vinegar. Goal to be off any prescription meds.

Thank you vm. You have explained everything so simple, concerning diabetes control. Most doctors, just want to increase medication. You have educated me. Is 1 month now I have changed my diet. Plenty fruits, and vegetables, snacking nuts at midday. Dinner at 5.30. If I feel hungry, I will drink water. So far everything working good. I want my A1c to be reading 5 or 6. Thanks again. 😢

I would give anything,to be able to go on long or for that matter short walks. But that's not possible for me, can Upper body exercise work just as well.

I am happy for you. It is so good to see someone who so selflessly shares with others achieve success. Sorry about your injury. I know how much fun it is not when one needs to go to an alternate routine. Years ago, when I was still fool enough to run marathons for fun(?), I managed to twist some tarsal bones in my left foot during a running of the St. George Marathon. When the pain did not subside after a few days, I saw the only podiatrist that the runners in my area trusted, (he was also a runner). Xrays showed the tarsal bones out of alignment. It hurt like hell, but he said there was low likelihood of further damage. Just quit running for a while. No such luck, had signed up for the Long Beach Marathon that was not that far off. Needed to go to a routine that did not force me to land on my foot, but still kept the cardio and muscles going. Did a lot of stationary bike work at the gym. Also took copious amounts of Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation. It all worked out and I was able to complete the Long Beach Marathon. Love your videos. Hope all is well with you.

First, I’d like to say thank you so much for sharing your journey!!We have so many similarities. I was diagnosed at age 47 with And on an insulin pump. I’m on the Dexcom. I’m currently trying to lower my A1c from an 8 to a , I love to work out and drink coffee! I take it with the same collagen as you do I believe I need to bolus for the protein like you were stating!! I followed your super easy guide on how to extend the Dexcom how to change the Dexcom and all your other videos were extremely helpful, !!thank you so much🎉❤😊

Thank you for these tips I will begin to implement these and see where it takes me. How often do you recommend looking at your reports to see trends and patterns? I'm not in the habit yet of doing this on my computer but I do look at the ones on my phone app. I believe that information is power and so I thank you for generously sharing your knowledge with me.

I look over my reports once a week. If you use Dexcom you can set it up so that they automatically send you a report every week

To manage diabetes and lower A1C following hacks / Points are suggested - 1 . adopt low carb diet . carb upto 50 gms per day , Protein @1gm per kg body wt and healthy fats . 2 . Have 2 Meals/day - Lunch and early Dinner , No snacks inbetween , skip Breakfast . This way you will achieve 16/8 Intermittent Fasting . 3 . Make Dinner carnivore and light and have it early . 4 . Have one day in week a carnivore day . All the Best

Very good, my recent A1C was 6.0, I eat breakfast around 730, lunch around 1130 then small snacks like fruit or nut, around 230 then dinner around 530. I ride my bike around 630. I do a lot of walking in the morning and weekends. I work from home too so I get up every 30 min,I can’t sit too long lol. Great video.

Great info Christel . I have problems with my blood sugar dropping while exercising. I usually put my tandem pump on temp basal and half the basal rate. What is your BS when you start your exercise routine ?

Thanks. My situation is a little different as I use insulin pens and long-acting insulin doesn't get hypercharged like rapid-acting insulin when exercising. So I only have to adjust my rapid-acting insulin. If I'm doing cardio I (depending on the type) dial back my dose for the last meal before exercise. My starting blood sugar is less relevant than my insulin onboard. For example, if I'm fasting, so only have long-acting in my system, I don't drop and can exercise with a blood sugar of 100 mg/dl. If you have issues with going low, you could try experimenting with reducing your basal up to 2 hours before. Congrats! I was over 10 when diagnosed LADA 4 years ago but have been 5.7/5.8 since April 2022. I don’t snack a lot and have no sweet tooth so I credit my CGM with helping me keep my readings low. I also see the CGM GMI overestimates. Mine usually says 6.2/6.3. My TIR is 96% (steady) and standard deviation is 24 on the CGM.

August 8 - Jan 10, 2024: I've gone from A1C of 6.6 down to 5.8. Was on no meds although my Dr. wanted me to! My goal is to get to 5 which is the bottom end of normal (According to Diabetes Canada). I'm doing low carb; almost no sugar (except treats at Christmas/New Years) ; no alcohol; mostly plant based diet; 6-8 cups of water daily; intermittent fasting (8 hour eating window). 5.8 is in the at risk category but I could do a happy dance I'm so thrilled w the results!

Fabulous changes in your eating and lifestyle. I have also found that apple cider vinegar is VERY helpful and will block the absorption of carbohydrates in the gut. I made a special mixture so I don't taste the vinegar. Makes all the difference in the world.

This guy is so correct. I reversed my pre-diabetes in just 3 weeks. I started with fasting glucose 116 and after meal glucose 158 and down to 98 and 119. My trick was low carb diet and also 18:6 fasting. Avoid most of sugars but occasionally half slice of pan cake to reward myself every 2 weeks. I eat 2 meals in the 6-hour eating window, one meal with no carb at all and another with a little carb like 2 tablespoons of rice. No bread or noodles as those are the worst for the blood sugar, especially the whole wheat bread. They usually add more sugar in it to make it more appealing. I do eat a lot of veggies and proteins like steak and chicken. I don't do ketos because it can't be that healthy eating a lot of fats. I don't want to fall to another pit after escaping the previous one. I prefer eating a little of everything instead going to just a few so-called healthy foods. This will be my long-term diet now and I hope who ever read this can achieve the same.

Congratulations Christel! Always great to hear. I also scored HbA1C of 5.7% last month as a Type 1 for 32 years. (I also scored 5.4% in February and 5.5% in August) I ran 6.7% average for my first 20 years (without the better insulins and without CGM). I've had a CGM for five years and have run 6.2% average since then. I also did something that helped a lot (as a 62 year old, now) I went on testosterone replacement therapy and noticed a remarkable improvement in my blood sugar control in the last 5 years on the TRT. as a male. My Time in Range has been running 70 to 75%. In August, my eye retinal screen also showed zero diabetic retinopathy after all these decades. I wrote comments a year ago about Afrezza not really working well for me when I started it, but I doubled down and now love it. And most of that was inspired by you. And you videos on that. Thanks. I do mostly intermittent fasting, skipping breakfast and eating very low carbs. When I'm usually drifting up mid-day, the Afrezza helps bring down quickly without overshooting. Of course, now that I love Afrezza, my insurance denied coverage because they stated they won't cover it because they are also covering Humalog and they won't cover both. LOL, what a crock of sh*t! I got a good appeal plan, though... I don't exercise at all. Plan on doing it as I had all my life, mostly resistance training. I'm also pretty insulin resistant, but time well to get larger amounts of insulin to carb ratio to work well. Cheers!!!

I've seen that metformin causes a reduction in testosterone. Between that & noticeable muscle loss in legs & arms I've also been using this to try counter acting.

I just got released from hospital where I'd undergone surgery. And boy has my A1c taken a hit. Last couple days in I started to produce ketones. Had to fight them for more insulin. Seems they are still back "regular" days with insulin only at meals. Had to refuse meals till within range. Otherwise I would be in even rougher shape. This is with 3 days fasting waiting for surgery. Seems my liver has gone into overdrive producing sugar and now my Dexcom /rapid ratio is 1:1 from 1:2.3. Thats my advice is to eat minimally until within range. If you can. So glad to be home.

My A1 C was 6.1 before Christmas..it was 4 months ago.. A week ago I checked my A1c again - 5.1 What did I do? Completely reduced sugar, starch, white bread… Never gave up coffee in the morning.. Never gave up my favorite oats. I’m eating only grain oats, soaking in the water over night. Guess what : I’m eating bananas every morning with my oats. I’m buying them in the green stage, peel them, cutting into the pieces , and put into the freezer. Also I stated exercise 3 times a week with weights. Trying to walk at least 15-20 min after every meal. I lost 20 - 22 lb. If you have questions, please ask me.

I have type 2. Dr Was talking about metformin. Nope. Went keto. Still drink some( too much) lost 20lbs and A12 down to 6.0 I even still get a pizza like every other weekend or so.

I injured my both of my ACLs back in 2015 and no doctor could help me expect to say " It was due to the amount of Inflammation in my body !" it took me three years to dicover the correct food to eat . It was very immportant to discover that the ingredients in 80 % of all packaged foods that contributed to that inflammation ! That said , I discovered that I was Omega 3 fatty acid deficient and in those food items which I set out to correct. When I take my Vitamin D3 with K capsule I take a Tbsp of Carlson's Norwegein Very Finest Fish oil blend with it ! I also cut OUT 80 % of the packaged foods like frozen foods. If I eat Ice cream it is Hagan Das strawberry or vanilla as they have the fewest ingredients which are safe. Check your Vitamin D levels and be sure they are are in a good range and not on the borderline. Lastly , i cut out all Amrican processed oils especially Canola and Soybean which cause infammation in my body immediately after eating items with these oils. They are " preservative oils that save the companies money because they artifically extend the shelf life of packaged item. They will destroy your ACLs. So I stick to made by nature animal fats , fish and that fish oil I mentioned above and I have to avoid US Cheese and dairy because it is just not as healthy as the aged European cheeses. Also they leas less cheese on Europe because it is so well prepared it is easier for the body to digest.Whereas cheese in USA is called Overnight cheese as it is artifically made overnight in the factory. Not aged for 4 - 18 months. Thank you for sharing your journey !

Can you please tell us how many times per week you typically go below 70 and how far below you go? I was diagnosed with LADA 15 years ago and for many years my A1c were in the 5s. In the last few years since getting Dexcom, my A1c has actually increased well into the 6s (~6.5). I attribute this to fear of lows due to some rare but scary ones I’ve had and with CGM I prevent lows way more than I used to but at the expense of higher numbers.

I can't tell you the exact number but the Clarity report shows below 6% of the time during the 30-days. So I don't have a lot of low blood sugars. Fear of lows can contribute to higher overall blood sugars. A few experts dive into this, and someone like diabetes psychologist Mark Heyman is a great resource. According to American Diabetic Association 's recent (2024) guidelines for an average patient the target of glycemic control is: HbA1c should be less than 7 , Fasting blood sugar in the range of 80-130 mg/dl,Post Prandial blood sugar below 180 mg/dl.Lowering target may be suicidal especially when you have chances of hypoglycemia.Further anxiety for hypoglycemia will increase your blood sugar level.Blessed be.

It depends, and I'll generally drink more if it's warm or if I work out. But I generally go through 2-3 (950 ml) water bottles a day plus a few cups of tea/coffee

Sounds like what you did worked. I guess Im pre-diabetic. Back in Aug. Dr. visit had my glucose at 124 yet my A1C at 6.4. Since then changed my lifestyle went on keto have lost about 30 lbs and do a lot of walking. Ive watched tons of vids on the subject some helped some did not. The one on eating a high fiber drink before meal failed for me.. I still eat fiber with meals but find that a brisk walk after meal does more than anything. I did a test on another you tuber showing 5 bs tests in one day and it avg to 5.5 A1C , I know it was just for that day., but Im hoping my next dr visit will have me below 6.0 on the lab results.

Love this positive video iv been keto carnivore now wholefood plant based keto ,carnivore just kept spiking my sugar I dint even have dairy on carnivore just meats I couldn’t work out what was spiking bloods it literally was doing my brain in so when fat free wholefood plant based wow best thing ever blood sugar comes down iv also reduced my background insulin from 20 units to 12 just want to get it even lower now I do have a tiny bit of pancreas left after loosing my pancreas to acute pancreatitis caused my a stone going into it. So now diabetic but I need to get this insulin down to help loose some weight to help my diabetes I don’t need to loose a lot since going on insulin 2023 I gained weight i definitely think it’s the fat that causes the spikes and the weight Gain I’m just eating fat free healthy whole foods plant based And I feel great How much background insulin do you use I’m also on metformin Love faye uk. I have to be honest. I didn’t care, didn’t test even when I was told my A1C was extremely high. 10/21 I had a mini stroke with BO at 200. Still didn’t care. My surgery was cancelled for female issues until I lowered my A1C. It’s long overdue. God got my attention. Your videos are encouraging, very doable steps to reach my goal. My endocrinologist was’nt much help but being honest, I was non compliant. I have to be between 150-200 for 7 days in row & can reschedule surgery. Last nine days my blood sugar average 211. I want to get down to a better range. I sooo appreciate steps your videos provide that I can try. I don’t understand all things you talk about but I’m trying. Funny thing…I bought nuts yesterday to replace my sugar fix on candy. Also, what I find extremely hard is that I’ve been an “emotional eater”. Any tips to help with that? Thank you, I'm glad my videos are helpful. I'm glad your mindset is shifting, that is the first step to making meaningful changes. Emotional eating can be a challenging habit to change. Depending on the severity you might have to talk to a mental health specialist. I find that it's helpful to reflect on my feelings. It's okay to be sad sometimes and rather than try to close down that feeling with food I try to "sit with it" and then look for a path forward

Does freestyle show standard deviation anywhere. I’m pretty successful at keeping my average blood sugar in the 120s or a little bit below but sometimes I do it by having very steady blood sugars and sometimes I do it with large variations so I’m not really sure what is better for my overall A1C. I spent some time on diabetic forms and nobody really seems to know which is better. My endocrinologist is happy because my A1c is consistently in the range between six and 6.5 and it seems to have slowed my complications but if there’s more I can do I will.

My hba1c used to be 5.7% now it's 6.23% I'm extremely close to becoming a diabetic being weary of my condition I avoid sugar,refined carbs,lost weight,exercise.I am already under tremendous depression,anxiety and eating very less amount of food per day that I've never ever eaten before in my life the reason being the concern of me becoming a type 2 diabetic very soon which is my worst nightmare which I never want to happen to me

Thanks for the video. What is the reason of blood sugar increase 3 hours later than lunch? It is happening since 2 days. The first 3 hours are perfect, then increases up to 230.

Could be a few different things. Some foods will get digested slowly. Some people digest more slowly. If you inject insulin, the 3-hour mark could indicate when you’ve metabolized the insulin and need to do a new injection

Type two diabetes diagnosed was on metformin was on gabapentin. Stop the gabapentin after three years then I stopped metformin my A1c now stays at 4.5. I am no longer on metformin or anything.

I recently been diagnosed with diabetes at 14.5 totally changed my diet only to around 60gcarbs a day cut all greasy food,lots of resistance training to swimming and I swear down in past week my a1c has dropped to 7.5 and believe it will disappear in days unbelievable and also eat light meal atleast 4 hrs before I sleep,also Change all ur white carbs to everything brown whole meal,wheet noodles,and make sure u don’t over eat.

You might be eating larger quantities of other carbs than you do of a straight-up sugar carb. But as long as you pay attention and learn how different foods impact you, you're on a good path to learning how to manage the impact

Unfortunately, since I live with type 1 diabetes, I will most likely be diabetic for the rest of my life. There's still no cure 😢 But it does mean that I'm doing what's right for my body. I reduced all types of fats. I was eating a lot of nuts and seeds as well as cheese

My A1c was 38 2 years ago and wasn’t told and now on the finger prick test it’s been 9.9 I’ve got a few symptoms of diabetes but my drs say it’s fine

If your blood sugars are running high and your doctor isn’t listening to you, if you can, it might be a good idea to get a second opinion

So, did the cgm actually lower you glucose? Mine isn't. It is more of an annoyance. That and the ozempic is messing up my numbers, making more swings wider. I give up.

In itself, no, but it has been a great tool allowing me to reach the glucose goals I’d set for myself. It takes a bit to get the hang of how to use a CGM accurately but I wouldn’t be without it. That being said we’re all different and maybe it’s not the right tool for you. And I think there can be power in that realization. You’ve tried it and maybe now it’s time to try something else

Both my parents had type 2 diabetes. Have 2 siblings with diabetes. My a1c is 5.8. I only weigh 117, so I'm not overweight & can't afford to lose weight. I've been making so many changes to my diet which led to my 117lbs. I lost 10 lbs since Nov. Am I doomed to have diabetes since it runs in my family? Also have you heard of Lysulin ?

I don’t think you’re destined to have diabetes but given your family history, you’re probably right to think that you’re at risk. I’d encourage you to have a c-peptide test as well as an antibody test. That can help determine if you’re insulin deficient and/or have an autoimmune response. Neither is something you can resolve through weight or diet changes.

My A1C 3 months ago was 5.6 and i wanted to get it down. I've been doing CrossFit for years so I've got exercise down but i also cut out alcohol completely and stopped snacking at night. I already don't eat processed foods, no sodas etc ,and ugh my bloodwork still showed 5.6, 3 months later. Super frustrating!

If you're on insulin you might have to adjust that as well. For me, it was a question of adjusting it down to prevent too many rebound highs

My A1C was 5.5, next bloodwork it was 5.6, changed my eating habits cholesterol is good but A1C is 5.8

Ok, I am just 30 seconds into this video and you say your HgA1C is around 8.5 - 9%. Mine is estimated based on my CGM to be around 5.8%. While my doctor says my HgA1C is above 49. How am I supposed to make any sense of all of these numbers. I just want to pull my hair out. What if anything in my world of 5.8% and > 49 makes sense?

The units are different. 49 is equivalent to 6.6

Normal HbA1c A result of 40 or lower is normal for people without diabetes. For most people with diabetes, it will be between 50 and 55. Diagnosing diabetes with the HbA1c test If your result is between 41 and 49, you have prediabetes. If your result is 50 or higher, you have diabetes. If your result shows that you have prediabetes, you should make changes to have a healthier lifestyle. This means eating healthy food and keeping physically active. You'll have another test in six to 12 months to see if these changes have made a difference.

If you have a CGM you can find it on your blood sugar report. For Dexcom that’s the Clarity report
