This is so beautiful! It's so interesting to me that some people would never look down, or up... and notice the beauty in the rocks, or grasses, or the colors in the sky, or canopy of trees..but then some see it! Like you said, even a pile of buttons! And they capture it, in photography, or painting, etc.! It's amazing to me. ❤ And I am just in awe of your talent in pastels! You make it look so effortless and smooth...just gliding across the paper! This was just a pleasure to watch! I can't wait to see it in Critique Club! Thank you for sharing this Lindsay! It is beautiful! ❤

It would be a cool wallpaper or printed on fabric. There are companies that take your own images and print on fabric or wallpaper. Julie Fei Fan Balzer has some of her images for sale on things like cups, floor mats etc. This rock art piece would look great on a floor mat. I'd buy it. There's definitely a market for your prints Lindsay.

I love this painting and tutorial comments! It’s one of my favorite videos... between watching you bring life to the rocks and your voice being so relaxed while you were doing the voice over, it was extremely calming and such a joy. I have the full collection of pan pastels although I’ve yet to do an actual painting. I made a few backgrounds in my art journals but that’s really about it. I was amazed by a few strokes of light & and a few strokes of dark creating such depth and detail. I also have the Derwent pastel pencils and Faber Castell stick pastels but after investing in the supplies, books, and papers I realized that I don’t like the dust (even though the pan pastels have very little dust) and the extra effort to prevent smudging, etc. However... I gotta say that you have inspired me to try again. I love rocks. I have a small collection of them and hope to use them to try this technique. thanks so much for sharing your creativity with us. Have a great day and stay safe! 🙂

I have a non- aerosol fixative spray - SpectraFix and yes it can be a bit blotchy when sprayed. I was thinking about trying to find a sprayer like my garden sprayer that you pressurize by pumping up and transfer the fixative to that as they produce a nice fine spray. Just needs to be a bit smaller. Something that takes half a litre instead of 2 litres. Love the pan pastel painting. I'll have to go back and finish your pastel course one day. Just that my craft desk is also my working from home desk too now and it makes it hard to avoid spraying fixative on my screen and filling my keyboard with pastel dust.

What a wealth of information there is in this video. I got a couple identical eye shadow boxes with a bunch of colors in each to use as mica so they may be too sparkly, but they might make some nice quartz-like effects to my stick pastels. My sticks are almost 50 years old and have been packed away for a long time, but recently I ran across them. The fixative may flatten the color out, too. I'll have to play around and see. Thanks so much for this.

Remarkable use of the medium and especially that palette knife with the "sock" on it. I love how you compare it to playing with make-up! lol! Sorry, no idea what that is like! lol!! This came out fantastic! EDIT: just curious. I am paranoid about pastel powders in the air and breathing them in. Do you find that there is much dust from these, even if it's not very noticeable? Also, I've read in the past that we should wear gloves when using pastels, as the dust can get into our skin. Do you think there's any merit to that, especially using fingers to blend? I admit, I haven't used pastels in a few years, but I am super guilty of not protecting myself when I do. I should! lol! Also, our place in Maine is about 3 minutes from the ocean and it's _all_ sand, no rocks! I cannot wait for the warmer weather to spend more time there and explore the beach, do some plein air, and just enjoy that ocean!! :)
@thefrugalcrafter3 жыл бұрын
You must be in southern maine! I'm totally expecting an invite this summer! I dont think the dust is a problem, I don't even need to tap off the painting. You leave it all on the paper. I've never worn gloves but if I used patels day in and day out I may. Panpastel are nontoxic but i doubt many brands use the real nasty pigments anymore.

Absolutely beautiful rocks Lindsay 😍 You are beyond talented at so many different mediums... I learn so much from your videos 🌟 I love my PanPastels and use them as my underlayer for my pastel pencil drawings. As a few people have mentioned... SpectraFix says it's environmentally safe and sprays from a non-aerosol type bottle. I do find it does spray a little spotty tho. I bought one of those pump action pressurized sprayers people use for their plants or hair and find it's a little better. I find you just have to make sure you don't overdo it tho... I tend to spray a couple of light layers drying in between.

Thank you for sharing the great info about the fixative! It's much appreciated!
@michelleibara53453 жыл бұрын
@@cassiescreations9828 you're welcome... SpectraFix says it's odor free (which I found it is), non-toxic, all Natural, and all media. The bottle says it's good for soft pastels, oil pastel, chalk, Conte, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal... On paper, yupo canvas, ceramic, fabric, glass, leather, wood, and stone. I personally use it as a fixative for my PanPastel and pastel pencil drawings on PastelMat and charcoal drawings on pretty much a standard drawing paper. But boy did I make a big mistake of spraying too much my first time. Thankfully I was able to blot up the splotches with a tissue and they weren't really noticable once it dried. So that's why I gave the warning to go light especially til you know how fine the mist is that your spray bottle sprays.... Even test the spray bottle beforehand.
