I think Monika should change the design to include the bruschetta word. One thing that I would've loved to see for Spenser's design: Instead of having the entire bowl of rice taking up rather little space, make it so it takes up the entire width of the package and "zoom" in so that you can only see the upper half of the bowl, the bottom half being covered up by the green layer. Hopefully I explained my vision correctly, it looks good in my mind. And thanks alot Chris for the helpful critique. Can't believe this stuff is free :D

Really interesting to see how differently designers design. There is no single way to create and I love that this series showcases that. I’m a bit torn on including YG1 people. It’s amazing to see the improvements made by these designers but I felt it takes a little away from the current crop of talent. Not a big issue but maybe think of doing a separate video that catches up with previous participants. I think the audience is overtaken by the YG1 guys and comparing their second attempt to this first attempt by the YG2 girls. Not everyone is as skilled at deciphering design as Chris and this format might be a bit of a disservice to the designers.

I am a little late in commenting obviously but sorry I don't agree with the winner. Mainly because of the colours used in the packaging of the Basmati rice. Blue doesn't communicate 'India' and nor does it make it look more appetizing. I guess by just incorporating a little more a warmer colour palette within the same design would have been a major improvement.

Congratulations Anastasia, although everyone did a wonderful job. Especially liked Arun’s Feta cheese redesign. I’m half Greek and I don’t find the Greek key cliche’, it’s a proud symbol of Greek culture so I think it’s a perfect choice. I also like that it was presented subtly but we still could see it wasn’t a last minute add on. Interestingly enough, “traditional” Greek Feta is made from goat’s milk...which renders “Mooz” brand slightly ironic. Regarding Connor’s choice of utilising a white can was interesting but not appealing to me. The other use of colour was spot-on and I agree with Chris’s critique otherwise. Fantastic job all around young guns!!

I actually loved the Apple Cider Vinegar re-design made by the contestant, and I think the host's critique mostly reflected his own taste. The work in itself does have a lot of merit, though, and I think it is strikingly well done. Some criticisms I can agree with (like the apple looking not really like an "ideal" apple). But having a story written on your packaging simply is not a very "high-end choice", if you understand what I mean. I associate with that cheap products that might even be a bit sketchy. Maybe it's just an American thing where you can have an entire biography, family photos and quotes from friends on your product's packaging, but I absolutely hate that, and I hated the original design.
@thefutur5 жыл бұрын
When you design for a client you need to tell their story. They had a unique one and by throwing it out you make the apple cider vinegar generic. Burt’s bees is an excellent example of retaining unique traits while being a global brand.

I get so excited when they talk about their products and ideas. Then I see the designs and its kinda dissapointing, cause you can see most of the mistakes without being a professional if you actually get into it and look at the designs properly. Using not enough time as an excuse is really heartbreaking, considering how much admiration they all seem to have for Chris. Also if you wanna get the most of critisism, try and make it as good as it can be, then you can really grow, rather than blaming timing and dealing with obvious flaws. I guess I just didnt anticipate how inexperienced some of the contestants are, but still I wouldve hoped to see a bit more input.

I don't know if it's the assignment, or the designers or how this season is being filmed and edited, but these designs on the whole have been disappointing. Not the designs, the designs have been great! I love hearing about their process and looking at the difference between the original and their take. Mostly because there is just one final mock up that we see from the participants. I'm left to assume that Chris was given only one final image on most of these and not much else in terms of standalone label/print package, and product placement in any sort of lifestyle.. If that was listed in the requirements, to only give one final product image, that's unfortunate. If these ladies had an opportunity to display their product redesigns and all chose not to, very unfortunate. I understand that these ladies may also be working and/or in school with other responsibilities, but this is a rare opportunity to get great exposure, and face time with an industry leader as their mentor.

Darkbulb1 no. Her point was that she will use other assets from other designers to create a complete design.
