Once again a fabulous class which works the muscles in a completely different way. After over 15 years of practising Pilates it's easy to get stuck in the same movement patterns! Thank you also for highlighting what senior means! As a 55 year old I tend to find traditional senior classes too easy, am strong and mobile enough to do advanced work but in a different way to 10 years ago for example. Thanks for highlighting that middle ground!

Thank you. I love the mix of ballet, balance, stretching. Your narration is brilliant, reminding me to tighten and point just when I've slacked. Even though I'm watching video when you look at the camera, I feel like can see me! I'm feeling elegant even if it's not evident.

Hi Rachel. First of all thank you for this ballet workout but I don't have a blank wall suitable to lean on so is it ok to use the back of a chair? I was also interested in hearing the comments from the lady with the shoulder problem (rotator cuff) I too have the same problem with lifting my arm. I will try the exercise with the stretch band as you suggested and any further videos would be very welcome. Many thanks from one of your faithful seniors - 74 years!!

Happy New Year! This was a lovely start to the new year and the new resolutions for 2024 - thank you. One question please - any ideas how I can help stop getting cramp in my feet when I point my toes? Having spent 60+ years riding horses where I have my heels down in the stirrups I find it difficult to point my toes without getting cramp!
@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat11 ай бұрын
Happy new year Liz! Here's a couple of suggestions for your feet: Drink plenty of water before, during, and after you are active. ... Eat a diet rich in potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Stretch and release tension in your foot muscles- see my Foot Video which I think will help you. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pnPad3xoaMh0pZo Have a lovely day, Rachel xx

@@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat Thank you so much for the suggestions! I will definitely give the foot video a try & do the exercises as well as water on hand. I take a supplement for the magnesium and calcium. Will let you know how I get on x

Hi Rachel! I have a question do you have any videos for lengthening and strengthening the neck? I realize neck length is genetic but are there certain exercises that can help people that work on a laptop all day?
@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat Жыл бұрын
Hi there, what a great question. Absolutely I do! All the videos I make for Seniors include exercises to lengthen and strengthen the spinal muscles including those of the neck. What's really important is to look at your spine as a whole, a healthy, flexible spine will reduce tension in the neck area so exercising the spine in it's entirety is really important and then adding in upper back specific work will give added strength to the neck specific musculature. I would encourage you to do ALL my Standing Pilates videos for Seniors and in addtion add in these neck specific videos: Wall Pilates to Improve Forward Head Posture and a Painful Neck | 10 Minutes kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIa2ioiEhsx_faM Pilates for a Painful Neck | Stretch, Strengthen and Stabilise Your Shoulders | 30 Mins kzbin.infokB0A7Wc2JJc Stretches for Neck, Shoulder and Upper Back Pain Relief | 30 Min Pilates for Painful Neck kzbin.info4t389cUATaE

Thank you Rachel! This workout not only energized me but made me feel good about my 69 yr old body. I find that many of your floor routines hurt my neck so I modify them to support my neck. Any suggestions for exercises that will strengthen my neck?
@TheGirlWithThePilatesMat Жыл бұрын
You're so welcome! Really pleased you enjoyed it 🤗 For your neck I would recommend two things, gentle mobility and woking on your head placement. It may be that you're unknowingly holidng your head in a forward head position which will casue strain and tension in your neck. It's a slow process but I would recommned my Standing Wall Pilates for Posture:kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIa2ioiEhsx_faM My Gentle Stretches for Neck Pain Relief: kzbin.info4t389cUATaE And to work on your posture lying down, for my mat classes you could put a cushion under your head so there is less strain, and if you are tring an exercise where you have to lift your head, think of nodding your chin down first as if to hold an apple under it, keep that postion and lift. That often helps. Let me know how you get on 🤗
