The Tom Holland Spider-Man movies are insanely fun. Glad you guys started with the Civil War scenes because it totally did set the whole tone/vibe of the character. Been rewatching all these flicks then heading over here for the rewatch convos. There's a moment in this film that ive never noticed before and it totally captures the magic of the mcu. At the beginning when Tony drops Peter off and he reaches for the car door he says "this isn't a hug. we're not there yet." And the one and only hug he ever gives Peter is when he sees him for the first time in Endgame. Idk how I never noticed it before but man, it really hit hard. Thanks for the rewatch series homes.

One of my absolute favorite Peter Parker scenes from this film (although minor), is after the scene with Michael Keaton in the car. Peter slowly walks from the car to the dance and looks at his friends having fun at the dance. He wants to enjoy the dance and be a high schooler with his friends, but deep down, knows he has to be a hero and stop Toomes. I thought Tom Holland perfectly conveyed the struggle going on with Peter in this scene, and it always sticks out to me every rewatch.

On the movie scores, I actually think Hans Zimmer's theme for Amazing Spider-Man 2 is extremely underrated. He had a great Spidey theme there. That being said, I totally get the attachment to Elfman's. Giacchino's score for Spidey in the MCU is definitely great in its own right. It's very "Spider-Man", and yet it has this wide-eyed feel to it, where you can hear the innocence of him still being a kid, but later shifting into a more traditional grand feel, as he is the superhero we all know him to be. And dammit, i love hearing an orchestral version of the 60's theme over the "Marvel Studios" logo.

What I really like about these two MCU solo Spider-Man films is that they really feel, at the heart of them, 1980's teen / John Hughes films. The actors are really giving it their all and the comedic timing is great. Michael Keaton was fantastic in this movie. I hope to see him in more Spider-Man movies. Great episode, glad you all enjoyed the more high school parts of this movie, all the little random bits with the kids. Just feels very different from the "kids" in the other spider-man movies. I grew up with Spider-man not being a part of the Avengers but they capture some much of the best parts of spider-man and I feel it makes sense for the universe its in. I got lots of the other Spider-man in many forms already. this is my all time favorite MCU movie and my favorite Spider-Man movie ever I saw this movie opening day tom Holland is my favorite Spider-Man he plays the character perfectly when the main titles started I had a couple of tears because they played the Spider-Man theme from the 60’s I love this movie. This movie felt like what Spider-Man was supposed to be and they did an amazing job with bringing the true character from the comics to life, vulture is my 4th favorite villain of Spider-Man. I loved that they didn’t did his origin again they touched a little bit of it and that was ok. This movie is fantastic I saw this movie 4 times and every time I watch it I smile because marvel had Spider-Man back and Sony didn’t get involved with any of this movie which was awesome because it seems to me that Sony can’t make a good Spider-Man movie they failed 5 times. The Stan Lee cameo was one of my favorite cameos from Stan Lee. Can’t wait to watch and hear your guy’s thoughts on this movie I also forgot to mention that this is my favorite suit it’s comic book accurate

A good movie. Interesting to see the high school aspect of Spiderman. But what really bogged it down was the earning the right to be Spiderman. Tom Holland does well but he has been handed his suit and his tech by Tony Stark. And the moments where he had to use his wits, those were the best moments. I think had the shown the relatability side more, this would have been one of the best MCU movies Because when he is with the Avengers, we already see the Spiderman in full force. I wished they showed more of Peter's struggles in his standalone movies. And those struggles is what made Spiderman really different and relatable.

One of the things I liked about it (in addition to pretty much everything else you guys talked about) is that it's not an origin story. Don't get me wrong, I love origin stories, but after the Tobey and Andrew franchises where we saw it happen, it would've been repetitive and unnecessary. We already know how he gets his powers. Probably my favorite Live-Action Spidey film. I always have a wicked time watching it. Unlike a lot of fans, I honestly don't mind the lack of Uncle Ben. It's funny how fans complain about seeing Thomas and Martha Wayne die over and over again. And yet, they also complain about no reference to Uncle Ben (outside of subtle nods) in these movies despite his death playing hard in the previous two incarnations. Look at every issue and episode of any given Spidey cartoon or comic; Uncle Ben doesn't play into EVERY single storyline. I'm cool with the hints of Uncle Ben here and there. We know Spidey's origin; it doesn't need to hang over him in EVERY appearance. This movie really felt refreshing, seeing Peter much younger, and seeing how he goes about his daily life as a high-schooler. Feels true to real life, and yet it brings the fun & excitement I expect from Spider-Man himself. Do I miss the drama of a Harry Osborn? Yes. But at the same time, I can't helped be charmed by Pete's friendship with Ned. It too feels so true to life (at least MY high school experiences). And yes, the scene under the rubble, paying homage to the OG Ditko/Lee comics gets me everytime, even if the context is changed. Michael Keaton as Vulture is a fantastic villain, and someone I still hope makes a return in the MCU. Such a great installment of the MCU AND a Spider-Man movie in its own right. I think my only complaint is the "reveal" at the end that Zendaya is MJ. Felt very unnecessary. Either have her actually be Mary Jane (as a new, unique take on the character), or just embrace her being a new character completely. Despite that, her presence in the movie was very charming to me as well. But to each their own! Looking forward to listening/watching y'all discussion! Love these rewatches!

@@mylessmith8059 I'm not denying that's Uncle Ben's importance. But does that have to tie into EVERY mission Spider-Man goes on? EVERY story? No, it doesn't. He doesn't give the "With great power..." speech every time. It's like... we know his origin. We know his motivation. My point is we don't need to be reminded of it all the time in every movie. We get these hints here and there, and that's good enough, honestly. Let's get on with the story. If it doesn't tie into the plot, why do we need a reference to it? Plot Vs. Story.

Only Spiderman 2 and 3 were on a “friendly neighborhood spiderman”’ scale. The rest of them were pretty high stakes. In amazing spiderman 1 the lizard literally turned a whole city into lizards. In ASM 2 Electro went crazy and was taking out Times Square. In Spiderman 2 Dock Ock had to sacrifice himself before a growing sun destroyed the world. Well, Homecoming had pretty low stakes comparatively. Spiderman just had to save people from his own screw ups mostly.

Even though on these rewatches Tobey Maguire is still my favorite Spidey, I still love Tom Holland in this role and I don’t think his interpretation of the character deserves the hate it gets from some Spider-Man and Raimi fans. I see this trilogy as like a coming of age story for Peter to become the Spider-Man we all know and Holland is the best of both world as Peter and Spider-Man. He’s awkward and shy without being cringey as Peter Parker and he’s witty and charming without coming off as annoying as Spider-Man. Plus I never got the criticism that he doesn’t go through any consequences or have relatable problems. And I’m not just talking about the suit being taken away, he literally gave up the biggest moment of his life with the girl he has a crush on to stop her father, after the final battle Vulture got arrested, causing Liz to move away and ruining his chances with her.

Love you guys all love this movie, it is my fav Spidey film, I say 9/10 for me, never got the complaining about Iron Man honestly, I think most people doing that either are just jumping on a hate train, or are like I think RMB who iirc had major issues with this movie because this peter is not like the comics Peter, because Peter/Spidey in the comics is a peer to the other heroes not a junior member, which always made me laugh because it's a different canon who gives a damn? Honestly Peter being a fan of the Avengers makes sense in the context of the story here, as does him trying to impress Stark in the movie, people alway seemed to think it's because he's star struck or something, I always saw it as Peter trying to impress a scout, like a high school athlete trying to impress look outs for the college athletics programmes, which ties into the sort of parable I see in this movie, being a superhero is like being a teenager, Peter is the friendly neighbourhood Spidey, he's a teenager, all he wants is to grow up and be treated like an Avenger/Adult, the if you are nothing without the suit it means you don't deserve it, is like telling a kid if you aren't grown up enough to handle the consequences of your actions you are not grown up enough to be making those choices, and it ends with Peter being given the choice rush through life become and Avenger and leave the rest behind or choose to stay as he is for as long as he can, as in choose to give up childish things and take on the burden of responsibility of an adult, or enjoy being a kid for as long as you can, and Spidey unlike most of us who would probably charge into the unknown without thinking, he chooses to enjoy what he has for as long as he can, and I love that. Which is also why I do not see the same issues with the ramping up in the Avengers movies or taking him out of Brooklyn in Far From Home, because in that Peter is still embracing the same path, except differently, but that's for Far From Home talk not Homecoming talk, so I will say again I love this movie, I love Holland as Peter, I love Vulture, Aunt May, hell I love Flash because it's different to what we got before and I like that, and again I love this review, it's so much fun, the energy and joy you guys bring to all of this is great, I hope you guys have a long list of things you want to go through and rewatch together because the dynamic of the three of you is so much fun, even do fresh watches, maybe like THE THING!!?? I mean you are going to have to watch that movie eventually Kristian, may as well drag Winston kicking and screaming into watching it with you, now that would also be a fun watch along to see tbh. Anyway great stuff Kristian can't wait to see more.

This Flash fundamentally doesn't work as a bully, as the environment is too healthy for bullying to occur, and his nastiness towards Peter is too overt and not secret enough to not be called out. In every other interpretation, Flash has always been somewhat distinctly popular and allowed to thrive in his bullying due to a fairly immature, vulgar intimidated environment, as well as an intimidated one, and Peter has either been a loner, unpopular, or both. Here, Flash is alone in his bullying, and Peter is in a decent environment, surrounded by a few people who especially know him and care about him. Sure, Peter and Ned are pushovers, but nobody else is. The obliviousness of the characters in his world regarding Flash as a bully is ridiculous, and Flash would be put in his place eventually, after only a small time of selfish indifference is allotted before a truly nasty agenda is revealed. Writing a situation to appear normal, and all actors engaging in it has a powerful effect, and it's enough to distract from the reality of the situation to not hugely harm these films' quality, but it certainly doesn't make the reality disappear and I consider this a big flaw.

I loved the movie but, i hated that scene in the car. Peter is so fast and so strong that he could've taken that gun from him, crushed it and the tell him to STFU. Peter is so under powered and intimidated in the MCU. The suit is just a suit, Peter doesn't need the suit because all his powers are within him. He couldve easily taken out Vulture in the car.
@xronxronx3 жыл бұрын
As soon as Peter got his powers, he had it at full strength. The only thing he learned over time was technique, execution, and confidence. Crushing The Vulture in that car scene would've been child's play for him. Vulture isn't like Sandman, Lizard, Venom, or even Rhino. The Vulture is a regular weak powered villain without his suit.

Hmmm, Homecoming is a rough movie for me. First time i saw it-easy A+ experience but i like it less and less with each rewatch. The only part of the film i really enjoy every time is Keaton. He is sensational as always. The stakes of the movie are just so low and i understand what they are going for but it just feels like they took Vulture seriously but not Peter. Even the early comics felt more foreboding than what we see here and the constant stream of jokes in this just wears on me with repeated viewings. I do love Holland in the role, he is a great actor, but this is just not the Spider-man i see in my head when i read the comics. Personally, i don't mind the involvement of Iron Man. RDJ and Holland have a beautiful chemistry and the mentor relationship is important at this point in Spidey's world but i absolutely despise the Spidey suit in all the MCU films. It takes away an enormous part of Peter's character and was one of the few awful choices in the MCU as a whole. And Zendaya? Great actress but just an awful personality for a love interest. Apathy is not attractive. Ever.
