FUNKe managed to establish a strong and distinct style separate from TF2's visual style. That helped a lot.
@orrenlane4 ай бұрын
I know it's kinda like your signature thing, but I really love what you do with typography. The skill to make text more than just a method of conveying information and turn it into a visual treat is very underappreciated, and you do it super nicely

I really appreciate it! I always try to organize the text in a way that looks natural and interesting :)
@Nik1_4 ай бұрын
@@LucidMakesVideos I like when content creators use every single detail to try to convey the story. That usually means that the person behind it has a passion for what he is doing. I've been a fan of yours since the Muselk video, and its cool to see you change your art style and improve. When I will have good enough PC to be able to record video games, someday I will be also the creative person, but for now, I'm happy for you, even if I don't exactly know who you are behind the screen.

my first funke video was one of his movement shooter ones. I didn't even know he was a tf2 youtuber until much later

He makes youtube videos that give you the same feeling a video essay gives, but it's just an animated rant that is just as enjoyable to listen. I watched his video on albums a long time ago and I still have no idea what was going on, all I remember from that video is confusion and enjoyment. But he's also the main reason I decided to buy Ultrakill, his videos on movement shooters are amazing.

One thing about FUNKe that makes him a perfect video essay guy is his voice. His peculiar voice lends itself to cartoons and game commentary which he exercised to the full extent. I remember, because of the Wind Waker profile picture combined with his voice and appearance, he was often seen as the "anti-Leafyishere" back when that guy was relevant.

I stopped watching Funke for a while bc he stopped making tf2 videos, but recently i went on a binge with all of his newer vids and I was genuinely suprised with how high quality his videos were and how entertaining they were dispite not being about tf2. Other youtubers that i watched a lot were Muselk and MrPaladin. I think Muselk did a pretty good job switching out of tf2, but i remember MrPaladin trying to stop tf2 videos entirely and upload different content for a brief while, but that didnt do very well and he went back to making tf2 videos not too long after

Your assessment of FUNKe being initially very similar in content to Star is spot on. I actually started watching FUNKe after star stopped uploading on the STAR_ and ster channels to fill the wacky live commentary void I had after. Little did I know at the time, but FUNKe would not only match what I wanted, but also exceed and grow into his own. Great video

FUNKe is like the David Martinez of animation he's special got a unique style and that style of animation is what makes him so unique and he can make it work with anything when it clicks and his character adds onto that like a buy one get one free deal and the animated sections just add to the rich deep character in his videos or the blur of fast movements that are in small bits of his animations or the puns and literally just the video in general like seriously there's nothing this guy can't do.

It's so nice seeing FUNKe getting the praise he deserves :) I've been watching him since I was in middle school when he was just making random TF2 gameplay videos so I basically grew up with his channel, watching him grow as a creator and become more creative with the art he produces. He's always seemed to me the kind of creator who just loves to create and isn't afraid to show off all his inspirations. He's just really passionate about the things he likes and everything he makes, from his music to his animations, feel like love letters to every creative work that inspired him.

The fact there was no mention of Weezer is mildly upsetting but otherwise great video! I remember watching one specific video from FUNKe, being a video where he was in just the dumbest game of casual he'd ever seen. I watched that video so many times when I was younger. I remember also watching the "Death of an Artstyle" video at some point, but I didn't really watch FUNKe all that much as I grew up. That is until the "I miss TF2" video. I fell in love with the art style, and the way he animated his avatar, and now I just love dropping by his channel from time to time to see what he's up to. He and JSchlatt also got me into unironically listening to a handful of Weezer songs.

Muselk deserves to be studied, he had a LOT of criticism for transforming into a fortnite youtuber- and a popular one at that. Although Fortnite gave him a locker bundle- and he literally made it a reference to his tf2 load out and no one cared or noticed. Once Muselk made some more tf2 videos he didn’t get the same attention. Muselk left the tf2 bubble… but they didn’t let him back in.
Ngl star,jerma,funke and muslek are on my rushmore. Funke always had shown the ability to be more, and his content was great Unfortunately he hasn't came back yet He also introduced great music. Also ngl star could transitioned to his basically videos, because people enjoyed them, and his animations a lot. I think he wanted to kill off his core audience because he thought they'd consistently bother him for tf2. Star did an aggressive hard reset, and it worked

To this day, FUNKe is my favourite youtuber. He was the first tf2 youtuber that really stuck with me. His style and passion he had for his videos really inspired me creatively. Hell, i wouldn't read the works of Junji Ito if he didn't mention it in multiple videos. Probably wouldn't have sparked my interest in music, too, if he didn't do goofy lil weezer covers and make videos around the subject of music/soundtracks. Rewatching his older content fills me with nostalgia from watching and consuming so much TF2 content back in the day. Anyway, what i'm getting at is that his videos have inspired me, and i hope they also inspired others. P.S. funke if you're somehow reading this pls bring back bombi plush me needs it i was a broke highschool student when it came out 😭

From my theorizing, I can induce that FUNKe unintentionally did not associate himself with Team Fortress 2. And instead at the beginning, made videos on TF2, but since he wasn't unique, he had leeway to diverge into something different. To someone who is not a TF2uber, but someone who can make whatever he wants.

Ill look for the channel name once im done writing, (Edit: its "JayTheDevGuy" ) i really recommend their vids even if theres not many atm. Jerma never struggled to break out of TF2 content. His content is amazing consistently and made a name for himself, by just being him. To imply Jerma struggled even a bit is a stretch in my opinion. I mean, his most popular vids have been in TF2 along with other games, where he broke millions of views. His most popular video is Grab That Auto 5 with 6.3M views. His top 4 most popular videos are not even TF2 videos. His most popular TF2 video has 2.4M views and is at 5th place, and the 4th most popular video on his channel has 2.9M views. To say Jerma struggled is not true. He has seen massive success upon branching out from TF2 content. Infact Jerma GAINED more traction transitioning from mainly TF2 to other games. I would have preferred if you replaced Jerma with someone like Muselk, as Muselk would be the most extreme case of being trapped in the "TF2 Bubble" since the only way Muselk managed to leave TF2 while still seeing success, was by jumping ship to whatever was hot at the time to replace any viewers and subs he may have lost after the jump. He jumped on the Overwatch bandwagon when Overwatch released, and then when Fortnite came out, guess he rebranded their account again? Muselk! Don't get me wrong, the video is good. But claiming Jerma struggled in any capacity to escape the TF2 Bubble is just not a good take to me. Jerma had 0 restraints holding him back from leaving TF2, he just chose to occassionally post TF2 vids from time to time. That is why Jerma and FUNKe are so great. They posted a lot of TF2 content, but their transitions proved that they weren't stuck in TF2 limbo, they just chose to stay for a while
