Thank you so much! I'm a middle-aged homeowner in a different state, talking to a roofer next week about possibly doing a metal roof - something that could outlast me! I know nothing about roofing, but I so appreciate videos that actually show and explain some details, get me used to some of the vocabulary, etc., so maybe I can at least ask the right questions. The workmanship on this roof is amazing, but so are the explanations and the filmography. It is clear you're a professional bunch! Thank you all!

Very good installing singles off ,plywood repaired or replaced ,tops. I had my roof done by contractor , first a liner all over the roof than they placed 1 X 4 vertical 16” hart op hart screwed on the plywood and rafters underneath. After that they installed 1 X 4” horizontal also 16” apart. Then they installed the standing seam steel as advised by the manufacturer. The crew was experienced with standing seam steel roofs . Although i insisted in the vertical installing of the 1X 4”,S.

If you have vents on the front of the house, Its practicable sometimes to move the plumbing vents to the back of the house if you can get into the attic. The back side vents can be moved most of the time just a few inches. You can use a couple of 45s to offset the vents so they align.

I wish there were more craftsmen like this. Today's installers are crap. I had to argue with Lowe's for about a year to have them send someone out twice to fix my siding. Lowe's tried to say for me to contact the contractor that they gave the job too. I pointed out I purchased the siding and also paid for the installation. Since they took my money for both then subbed out the labor they are responsible and a judge is going to tear them up. I literally had to call Lowe's corporation and inform them if it wasn't fixed I would be placing a lien on Lowe's. Holly Molly, Lowe's sent out a siding specialist subbed out with in 72 hours. I highly recommend getting references from developers that do mid to high end homes. That's where you're going to find the best tradesmen.

I’m in NZ & our code is similar to Aus. Another thing that amazes me about US roofing is that there are no hems, or upturns on the valley trays to stop wind driven rain. Our valley trays are always recessed one inch below the roof level. We also turn down the edges of the sheets into gutters!

If you vented the Z's, you could use Cobravent stuffed in the peak, that way your cap is continuous across the top with no screws. Good job on that stack. I never thought to box it in like that over the locks. I generally fabricate the stacks on-site, adjusting the layout so that nothing land's on a lock, taking the angle and incorporating it into the pan itself. Good chimney work too. I'm used to working with lead, but you can make it look good with metal as well. Awesome job, I'd recommend you.
