Have a real spooky story about that place. Spawned a couple dozen citizens in the main grass area, went to eat dinner, came back and found they all went into the dark room. Probably nothing, but still strange to me.

@@i-dislike-handles Their mind is void, simply programmed and coded to simulate some semblance of humanity and the only thing they know is to follow the player. However, once the player begins to become an idle golem devoid of any of the players characteristic and erratic movements they will return to the area of which they understand the most, nothingness, for it is them and they are it.

You should do a retrospective on Minecraft! Obviously, it’s very similar to gmod because it’s a creativity game, but it also does have its horror elements. Cave ambience sounds are one of the most well known, as well as discs 11 & 13, the overall darknes/loneliness, the nether dimension, the new warden monster coming soon, the obscure hidden lore (and much more) make Minecraft at times actually scary.

This was a pretty well thought out and insightful video, as always. I started out watching your FNaF retrospective videos while on a FNaF binge and I have re-watched your first one a couple times. GMod holds a relatively large space in my heart, my upbringing shaped with the environment and with over 25k hours in the game as of now I wouldn't really be where I am today without it, from at first allowing me to have a nice escape after a stressful school day in RP, to then building and selling "E2's", WireMod chips that allowed you to run actual code from the chip on DarkRP servers for stuff like tracking how much money is in a printer to actually building addons and content for myself. It drove me towards my passion for design and experience, I literally met my girlfriend who I share an apartment with in a Garry's Mod community. It's the reason I am able to make ends meet every month because I create paid addons for communities to supplement my job, I have made 3D art, 2D art, mathematical and logistical art, and art out of just pure code in the game. It really is the closest thing we can get to an entry level sandbox where content is 'almost' entirely adjudicated by the community. Since 2006, Garry's Mod has been in the background of my life, supporting me through the good times and the bad, it was able to pull off what games like Second Life and older windows XP MMO's tried to pull off, what Roblox is currently doing with it's resurgence, it's a repeat of the same thing, my nephew bought a whole book from Scholastic about Roblox Lua programming, and it didn't shy away from complex topics like sorting algorithms, the weird way Lua does objects and such for a book targeted to children and younger up and coming computer nerds. I found it really interesting when you touched on the topic that a lot of source games were just mods, and while it's less common today, it still happens with games like PUBG, originally being an Arma 3 mod. But it also occurred in Garry's Mod itself, TTT was originally developed by Bad King Urgrain for a Fretta contest held by Garry's Company, Facepunch in 2010, it was so popular it ended up being added to the base game. The abstraction of gamemodes goes way deeper than just TTT too, Fretta, mentioned previously, was a system before GMod 13 where you could host multiple gamemodes, allowing for more smaller scale, party gamemodes, from racers to even a full on, working copy of warioware, called garryware. You can still do it in GMod 13 although it's less common. Even Tower Unite, was entirely founded in the foundation of Garry's Mod, originally hailing from GMod Tower, is now a full priced game on steam. s&box is going to be interesting, the interesting features they want to build, one of the earlier advertised features being able to just drag and drop assets from a lot of common formats into the game, and it just *works*, with shown demos of the full GTA 5 map, GTA SA map and a few others. It's earlier history of engine swaps made me start losing hope but recently, they put it all back on track and now community dev keys are starting to get handed out (fingers crossed I get one, I want to be among the first to start porting some of the more niche stuff over, stuff like garryware and smaller scale addons), being able to work with the full source 2 tool set, a faster, well made programming language, full HTML/CSS/JS control so we can see designs and content in UI on par with actual websites. Everyone's take on the whole creepy source map thing tends to be relatively similar, a feeling of emptiness is a general shared feeling, but having been on a lot of those maps like RP_Downtown_V2 since their release, I get filled with -- ghost like memories walking down the streets of those maps, with nearly my entire lifetime of memories, friends, happiness and trauma, all range of emotions, you could point to a spot on a map like gm_construct, cs_office or gm_fork and I would be able to tell you a memory more than likely. A blissful nostalgic past, I remember hearing it described as a "ghost town" vibe, an area that looks like people were here just yesterday, it feels like you should have seen someone, but you know you shouldn't. Combined with the Source Engine being a 'realistic' looking engine and artstyle, but in a time before the technology existed to reach the detail of today, I think it invokes that same uncanny valley effect you talk about in your FNaF 1 video. But it's close enough, and the engine has been warped enough with Garry's Mod that we can reach excruciating levels of detail, at the cost of performance, a map I would recommend looking into is rp_city24 (or gm_city24 for sandbox), a massive, extremely detailed city, when compared to the blocky bits of gm_fork's buildings is incredible what creativity is achieved. If you ever need anything done in Garry's Mod, from a map being edited to a script being made, fixed, added; you can feel free to contact me on Discord or Steam: TomSL#1104 steamcommunity.com/id/lemastersigh/ I would love to see a video about some Source Mods from you, some of the older ones like Obsidian Conflict, Synergy, Zombie Master(which was made by the same guy who made TTT by the way! The official TTT discussion forums were on the zombie master website for awhile!), Minerva: Metastasis (which got the creator a job at valve), Rock 24. I look forward to seeing more retrospectives and other content.

I come back to this video time to time because, not only for the subject of the video, but because Garry's Mod is this nostalgic game that you can watch old Machinimas, old TTT videos, or (in my case) Smg4 videos and feel like a kid again. Those wacky and badly edited videos back in the 2010's that were so simple yet so fun. And although I haven't played Garry's Mod in a long time (mainly because I used to play it in another computer and I didn't got a steam account until 2017), I want one day to bring this idea to my friends of playing this infinite yet simple game of possibilities. Thank you so much Smg4, Luh, Gona89, sarinha_03 and Exo for all the memories, I can't thank you enough.

My dive into Gmod started with DasBoSchitt and from then I got into the posing side of it and now use it to make artwork. The art side of Gmod is being utilised by some RP communities as well like Espionage Wars and HL2: Sector 17, in which players can use either Gmod or SFM to make art pieces of their factions doing stuff in the game worlds. As a game the versatility of Gmod is phenomenal and I struggle to see its community fade away anytime soon.

Ohhhh, i really liked this, this was really sweet! I especially enjoyed the back and forth between "Serious Big Kid Analysis" to goofing around. Goofing around is an unavoidable component of any gmod discussion, obviously. As well it should be. The bit about "haunted" maps reminds me of itch user Papercookies' "No Players Online", which i'm sure HAD to take some inspiration from the fear of old empty counterstrike and gmod maps. It's really fascinating to see the influence of things like that spread out over time. Something something, butterfly effect, etc. p.s.: does anyone know what args referenced to at at 27:14 and 30:16 were? sounds fun

They tended to host deathrun servers and zombie survival servers. I miss those days, especially the zombie survival. I’ve still got gmod and I really need to get back into it after all these years.

perfect choice of video. Garry's mod is such an iconic game, and as someone with thousands of hours in it, I wouldn't love to see anyone else do a video on it more.

I love Gary's mod. Not many of my freinds have PC's so I mostly play alone but that never stopped me from doing insanely fun stuff like making rocket powered cars or fighting in battles from the American revolution with a rocket launcher.

I remember my sister and I would just endlessly watch gmod videos but never actually played it. Might bug her and some friends when they're not busy and mess around in it! Never thought a lowercase white g on a blue background could be so nostalgic.

i started playing gmod when i was like, eight, because i was obsessed with channels like venturiantale and i hope that one day, if some more of my friends get the game, we could all play it together, though ive had trouble recently playing multiplayer with one for technical reasons i dont understand

On the liminal spaces note becaujse I've played gmod solo for most of my 4000+ hours I'm so used to the liminal and empty nature of maps. I've done so much with just base npcs that the feeling isn't really there. It is quite interesting how different of a vibe you can get from a game depending on how you play it. Also I love doing my own solo games, I've made rules and spreadsheets just so I can have fun. I keep score, use player models to signify different players, use different weapon mods and stuff, and honestly, gmod just never gets old. Sure I get burned out but sometimes after a few month break I come back having fun

I totally agree with the freedom thing. I really like making scenes and sometimes comics with the game, or just doing whatever I want, plus I don't have that many friends on steam who'd wanna play it, or could play it at the same time as me. (I do like prop hunt, but that really depends on who's in there, and I honestly can't find a recent server) So I've played it singleplayer for 98% of my years of playing. I don't feel scared when exploring a new map, unless they specifically make it so. I feel excitement to explore it and make new stuff in it, and maybe a little wonder at the size or detail of it. Like, Gmod CAN be creepy, but I'm not predisposed to see it as such. (Also, what's the cactus thing? It looks so fun to use!)

I love garrys mod so much, it was one of the first games that really captivated me, I love playing multiplayer with friends, making renders, trolling on RP servers, Its a game that has everything you could ever want, the workshop rarely disappoints and overall its just a game that pretty much anybody can find enjoyment in

Yo Sagan, you should honestly do more retrospectives if that’s what you enjoy. I think I can say for the others here that after watching your FNAF ones I’m interested to see your takes on various genres of gaming.
