@@michaelfryers1914 Fast forward for me, I did end up listening to the rest of the trilogy before the end of the month. Minor spoilers beyond this point. I did quite enjoy TTO as a thriller until the ending chapter which was painful and also posed several questions that were not answered later. And then there's TFC. I tried to like it. I really did. It had a few great action scenes and character moments from the supporting cast. But it was just wrong, if I had to paraphrase Henry. The plot was wrong from the start. It goes into 'WTF' territory near the end. The final chapters were a total anti climax. The twist was utterly contrived bullshit (excuse my language) that retcons everything and poses more questions than it answered. William doesn't really get the finish he deserves either. Nobody does. The epilogue was extremely short and abrupt with no time being taken to debrief with everyone. This is not the final part of this story arc that we would have liked nor was it something it's world deserved. Completely unsatisfying. Not because it is bittersweet, but because it ignores everything that came before it. All of that setup and world building. Gone. Some things are best left unexplained yes, but then you have stuff like all of this.

Ok, so having read all three of the novels, I’d have to say that The Silver Eyes has the best standalone story. The Twisted Ones is the best written in terms of descriptions and dialogue, and The Fourth Closet is my least favorite as it goes full Scott insane explanations and there’s all around way too many contrivances. I think despite some reaches in logic in The Twisted Ones, it still stands tall for having really well crafted suspense scenes and a shocking ending that was unfortunately ruined in the epilogue.
@sulphurous26563 жыл бұрын
Looks like we have a consistent consensus then. The Silver Eyes really has that kind of self contained story which leaves you perfectly satisfied and without almost any real lingering questions at the end. And it also has a great atmosphere to it, much like the first games. The Twisted Ones feels like a halloween special almost or a nightmare tale, which is fitting since it's the FNAF 4 equivalent of the series. Though it for some reason decides to dial back to FNAF 2 land and spawns the damn restaurant under Henry's house for whatever reason which everyone immediately forgets and doesn't investigate. It does end up being sort of a fun and tense mushroom trip, if you had to call it that I suppose. And then you have The Fourth Closet, which could have been perfectly thrilling on its own with the imposter saga if it didn't corrupt it with the contradictory twists and other contrived plot points and a rushed and unfitting conclusion to an already in retrospect flawed premise. Wasted potential by focusing on the wrong things.

I agree completely, having finished the trilogy after being spoiled shortly after blissfully listening to The Silver Eyes. The Twisted Ones whilst with some problems plot wise and missing characters, was still enjoyable. But I have almost absolutely no defence for the direction The Fourth Closet took plot wise despite its abundance of good character moments. Especially with that ending twist and abrupt epilogue. The twist especially is a massive retcon that requires serious mental gymnastics to let it stick because of how much information contradicts it in the previous novels. It raises more questions than it answers, and creates problems that didn't exist before whilst never addressing existing ones. The first book I'd only give minor editing tweaks, a few dialogue changes to characters like John who isn't utilized to his full potential (especially later in the sequels). For the second book, maybe the same. For the third book however, we can throw it into the furnace and go back to the drawing board. This bloody thing violates the geneva convention.

That intro was fucking sick dude. Awesome work with this.

Love the intro , feels like the opening to a made for tv horror film from the ‘70’s or a Stephen King miniseries.

Found you through your Fnaf retrospective video and subbed right away and watch all the rest of your vids you do a good job. Personally, even though I know a lot of people don't want seea whole lot more on fnaf stuff, I would like to see you do some retrospectives on some fnaf fan games I think you would do a good job on them. Keep up the good work.

Sit down and listen awhile, read the book, and maybe play the games again. While The Community and Scott have a stroke with the mess that is happening we should just reminisce

I really love the editing for this one. It gives the spooky feeling of old, late night infomercials, similar to Omega Mart's videos.

Question: Since your doing a retrospective on the FNAF novels does this mean your also doing a retrospective on the Fazbear frights stories?

I’m so glad I’ve found someone who feels the same about this book! I always hoped they’d make a movie for it but I’m going to stay optimistic about the Michael one they’re working on now~ The Twisted Ones hot take: they animatronics should have busted into the cafeteria to nab Charlie instead of her running off to find a house I still don’t understand the purpose of and falling sleeping- it was a great horror moment to see the Freddy eating at the end of the bed, but I can’t wrap my head around the point of that home even now. And I just wish the cafeteria was more important tbh.
