This was so helpful. I just started doing my own nails and they are so damaged from years of dip. Removing the gel has not been easy at all. Huge revelation that I can just file my nails and fill the structure gel instead of having to go through the removal process each time.

When I was a student, in the salon I was doing my class , a client came to have her gel polish removed , She was assigned to me. She doesn't even speak to me as I say Hi and try to be friendly and just was giving me the worst condescending look... I install the acetone wraps etc and tell her I am coming back in a few min. (since we had to do Cleaning etc in between task ) Not even 3 min later (on my timer watch!)she complained to the teacher that she as been waiting for ever with the acetone and that her fingers were Burning. So I return to the clients and check at the wrap and litteraly nothing was happening with her gel... Not ready to come off at all. I was so not prepared for that. We didn't have Electric Nail file or anything. I really didn't knew what to do ?😂 that was years ago. I understand that some could be sensitive to Acetone, but what do you do if a client Complain about "extreme" pain and that it's too long ? especially in the context where you are working/studying for a chain with specific steps you are supposed to follow ? and how do you deal with extremely "rude" clients 😐?
@j.whiteoak64082 ай бұрын
@@rexysmith4029 Great question! I'm not a tech, I'm not even in the industry - I just like doing my own nails at home, and after only 6 months (about 8 applications) I am producing better-than my previous salon results myself - and I'm much more gentle in the prep, application and removal processes ... Some techs are quite brutal - but I understand that they're 'on the clock'. But I can't be rude to anyone .. so I don't appreciate it when people are rude to me for no reason. Regardless of your client's personality or requirements, you will learn that developing sharp communication skills is an art-for in itself which is an imperative addition to your tech skills. I would start by asking every client (especially if they seem unfriendly or moody) if they have any known allergies or problematic issues with the products and procedures you're about to use .. and adjust your style accordingly. (That client failed you by not speaking up, IMO). Also, it might be helpful to explain each step and why it's necessary before or as you proceed with each one - so that the client knows what to expect .. kind of like giving them a mini-tutorial as you go. Especially if they're not a talker or may even seem hostile. I guess you just have to pander to a 'moody' client a little more, but don't take rude people to heart as there are always going to be obnoxious @hooles in the world ❤️ There are many egotistical sods who treat all services-industry personnel like they are second-class citizens - but then there are those outright narcissistic cows who treat them like dirt and yet still expect special treatment - usually because they think they are better than you and that they are sooooo special.. so absolutely NOTHING you do for a narcissist will ever be good enough for them! These will usually be the most difficult of clients, such as those who refuse to pay for your skills and hard work at the end of it and have probably been black-listed from every other salon in your area.. I mean, whingers are one thing - but at least they'll still pay you! Of course you would prefer to never deal with people like that, but they certainly exist. if you are not soft and would like to continue to serve 'special' people in your clientele, then my advice would be to put a big star on their service record - and pander to their massive egos by making them feel as 'special' as they think they are, LOL! I call it 'palavering'. Some people will need (and expect) to be treated like kindergarten children. Still others will treat you like their personal psychologist, and you'll hear their life story in the first 5 minutes .. in which case, let them do most of the talking and give them an empathetic ear - but always refrain from ever offering them any advice. My best tip is that every client is an individual, and that you will encounter as many different personalities as you have clients - but learning how to deal with people of all types will become an even more important skill than the tech services you provide. It's a whole different ball-game and sometimes a tech (or any other service-industry personnel) might be extremely talented at their work and will enjoy doing that side of it very much, but maybe they just aren't cut out for coping with the close human contact and myriad personal variables that are involved in their chosen line of work. But every individual client that you encounter in the first years will present a learning curve for you, particularly in the importance of the arts of reading personalities and communication. You just need to be very flexible in these areas. I hope this helps you 😊 and I wish you the very best for an enjoyable and productive career. Good luck! ❤️

Thanks for your instruction. I'm so tired of my friends blaming the polish for damaging their nails. Uggh. I had gel nail polish applied in the salon twice, but always went in with naked nails. I prefer to do my own gel polish at home because I've seen some horrible techniques (deeply sanding the nail plate prior to applying the base coat is my BIGGEST gripe and not putting the color close enough to the cuticle). Sometimes it takes 40 minutes for me to soak off my gel polish and I don't care. You have to be patient like you said. It beats scraping off layers and thinning my nails.

Tip: you dont have to use foil to wrap the nail. I like to use latex finger cots (i think they make nitrile ones too.) they are just little finger protectors. you can find them in the first aid section of your drug store. (I found mine at walmart) or you can get them online. however the reusable silicone finger cots you may see online won't work. acetone will dissolve the silicone.

Beautiful, I'm curious why nails are softer tha usually after removed do you suggest putting on strengthening polish directly after
@TheNailHub6 жыл бұрын
Usually they aren't actually softer they just feel that way because we get used to the firm feel of having product. It's easy to forget how flexible and thin real natural nails are. I am going to do some videos on treatments that actually work for repairing nails that are truly damaged. But most of the time keeping your nails moisturized works really well to maintain them.

This is an awesome video. Out of curiosity, how long, in a salon do you think you would you need for gel polish removal and reapplication including reshaping the nails and cuticle clean up? The salon where I work allows us 1 hour for what they call a Gel Re-Manicure. I sometimes feel like that's not enough time to do a proper soak off and some of my co-workers will just file off the polish and reapply to save time. In your opinion, is this too little time, and is just filling off the gel bad for your natural nails? I think that it can be harmful, but it's tough when you are concerned about running late for your next appointment.
@TheNailHub6 жыл бұрын
In my experience (having had a team of 12) it takes more like 1.5 hours. If you do an overlay instead and backfill you can do an hour but with soak off time it takes more.

Hola Arelis. Tienes razon.

@jag-0425 жыл бұрын
I do have a question! I have been following your techniques for applying the gel polish. My own nails need to be strengthened, therefore, is it OK to use and regular nail strengthener on my nails...that needs no light...let it dry, and then start the basics to apply the gel?
@TheNailHub5 жыл бұрын
Nail polish or nail strengthener does not bond to the nail long term like gel does. You can do this but as your polish chips off and wears out it will cause your gel to lift as well. But I have seen nail techs do this in just the center of the nail forna short term gel manicure. Theres no major harm in doing it other than your gel wont last as it should and also just keep an eye out for lifting as that is how you can get pseudomonas/greenies.

Thanks a lot for the informative video Liz!Great tips!♥I would like to ask,i always like to do dry manicure instead of soaking hands in water etc for reasons we all know...But there have been many clients that bite or "eat" all the area around the eponychium which makes the skin really hard and difficult to push back with our pushers(drill makes the work a bit easier,but when the time to use our nippers comes the problem still remains...)Any tips on how we can soften the skin a bit without needing to soak them in lukewarm water and use our nippers to take only the dead skin off and continue with our service?😞

I'm going to get into e-file manicures soon. It's really gentle and effective

If the nail has like white spots. What does it mean? Too much primer and bonder? And do you have any video about removing the dip powder correctly without damage the real nail?

It means that the gel is pulling on the nail. This usually happens when a gel contains a lot of solvents (hybrid gel polishes that are a mix of polish and gel). You can immediately tell the difference between hybrids and regular gels just by the smell. They smell like nail polish.

Thank you for posting this. It reminds me that it’s best to leave this to the professionals. I thought of buying a UV/LED hybrid lamp to do my nails at home since I am a new mom but it doesn’t really save time. I think I’m better off using the Essie no lamp gels for now 😆

Is the acetone harsher on the nails than e filing, once that is finally learned? I've gotten impatient with the smell of the acetone, not to mention how long it takes sometimes. Maybe I'm using the wrong kind???

Question, how much worse is just soaking in a bowl of acetone vs the wraps. My personal nails (and my daughters) really likes to hold on to gel and have found the bowl method to be quicker. 10 per hand and done comes right off. Wraps 25 min and its a struggle. Thank you for the real time, I think that it makes us all realize how long it actually takes, we can't live in FF!! lol

Hi I don't like the bowl method because it wastes product, it exposes more skin than needs to be, and I find the wraps help keep the acetone heated and concentrated on just the gel. Although acetone doesn't actually do anything to the nails other than dry them out, I still don't like dunking my skin in a bowl of it. I also am accident prone so having a bowl of acetone around is a bad idea for me as I would absolutely spill it everywhere. For me wraps keeps everything neat, tidy, contained, and focused on the gel instead of all over my skin. But just my 2 cents.

I have a manicure finger tray for removing acrylic nails. I fill the small cups with acetone and then put the whole thing in another bowl which is having warm water in it. Works so much faster than any other way of doing it! Also, I'm very impatient so without the bowl method I would have already lost all of my natural nails!

Thank you for this. At least I know I'm sort of doing this right now. I'm a new convert to gel nails and I couldn't believe how long it took to remove them. I've started using gel remover clips which you pop on top of the acetone soaked cotton wool. You can see them on e bay. I think they tend to be a little more secure. Lots of love from England x

Hi Tracey those clips are great but I highly recommend putting a bag around your hand to prevent premature evaporation. That will definitely help.
