The hound saying goodbye to Arya Gets even sadder when you realize something. The 2 Stark girls are the only 2 in the entire series to ever say thank you to him for anything at all. Sansa tried after he saved her from the commoners. And of course Arya is thanking him for a LOT. He was top tier, all around hero in this show.........with a few rough edges.

One little detail that a lot of people seem to miss in the beginning of this episode is that Varys is trying to poison Dany's food. That's why his little bird had come to him and saying that she won't eat, and Varys replies "well we'll try again at supper." During that interaction he was writing letters to all the Lords of the realms to tell them about Jon's true heritage so that they would rise up against Dany and install Jon as king.

Everyone seems to forget this. I’d still argue it moved forward too quickly but it absolutely didn’t come out of no where. It’s easy to look the other way cause we like her and she’s one of the protagonists throughout but she repeatedly is turned away from mad queen type shit by her advisors/friends, like you said. A few times she ignored them and did brutal stuff too. She literally lost everyone that was with her through the whole thing. Lost her family essentially. Her whole identity has become a lie since she isn’t even the rightful heir. Massive cognitive dissonance while in a land that she believed was waiting to welcome her. But instead she lost everyone close to her and most her dragons and everyone loves Jon more or just actively dislikes her. Her snapping makes a lot of sense imo. I just wish we had a full season to see it unfold more naturally.

I saw the signs of her changing in season 6. She started getting more ruthless. Before it was follow me or you are free. Then it was follow me or die. Then when she found out she wasn't the heir to the throne that hurt her most. That showed she was about the power. Then losing her friend pushed her over the edge. And insanity can be hereditary. I saw the change coming.

If she was truly all about the Power she would have just let the Wights kill Jon when he was surrounded by Wights when he went charging the Night King like an idiot. That would have fixed her Jon problem. Better yet if she had just taken Tyrion’s advice to NOT go North of the Wall. Jon would have died, Viserion would still be alive. The Night King wouldn’t have a dead dragon to bring the Wall down and many lives would have been saved at Winterfell. She wouldn’t have lost Missendei the way she did and she probably would have burned the Red Keep. But Tyrion went from being one of the smartest men in Westeros to being continually outsmarted by his enemies aka his family. Makes you feel he was giving Dany just enough advice to not to have his brother or sister killed.

Dany herself said one time that they should just live together in the North, and Jon could have just married her and been her Consort. There are 2 schools of thought on Danerys. One is that she always showed a "volatile side" by burning the Tarly's, Crucifying the Maesters in Mereen etc. The other is that those actions were justified. I don't know if the writers meant for that citizen killing spree to be Danery's pent up anger making her snap, Or if it was for her to make sure that she instilled undeniable fear of her as a leader (Let it be fear). Either way, these last 2 episodes went way too fast to make her actions make sense. Cersei's death was so anticlimatic to me after 8 seasons of waiting for Cersai's downfall.
@TheJordanK
@TheJordanK 3 ай бұрын
It was definitely her snapping. The ol’ Targaryen unstableness or madness if you wanna call it that. The whole show she’s had her friends or close advisors always there to check this side of her and keep her grounded. All of them are gone, and 2 of her dragons, AND her life goal was a lie, she isn’t even the rightful heir. She’s based her entire identity off this. Her determination throughout her whole story is all based on her reclaiming her birthright. That’s out the window, she tried grasping for straws to save it by keeping it from everyone but the man she loves won’t play along and in her mind betrayed her. Combine all that and it absolutely leads to some form of snapping or madness. It’s been a while but I also believe the show runners say something along those lines in the after episode interviews. But I may be making that up, David and Dan liked to say some dumb shit sometimes.
@johnmorris1009

I think they should have had either Arya or Jaime kill Cersei. There was no need to have Arya go to King's Landing and then back out of it, and her final conversation with the hound could have been had either at Winterfell (she stays behind) or not at all (and she goes with him,.he protects her from the mountain and she then goes after Cersei.

You mentioned that Varys did not scream and took it like a champ. To clarify, we are talking about flames so hot they can burn metal and stone, such as those that scorched Harrenhal and the Iron Throne. Given this, as soon as the flames touched Varys' body, he would have died instantly. Death would occur so quickly that there would be no time to react. Being engulfed in dragon fire is like being shot in the head; you go from being alive to being dead in milliseconds, leaving no time to scream or even feel pain. It is painless due to the rapidity of death.

The knee-jerk reaction of negative emotions clouded their judgement which resulted in condemning the writers and swearing off the show in a fit of rage. I remember being astounded, witnessing the mass hysteria and short-term memory loss of great episodes that aired before that moment. All because the show went in a direction that the fans didn't want to see or couldn't see coming. You know, like GOT has done in all previous seasons. At least the outcome was unpredictable, even though there were plenty of signs all along the way in hindsight, so you can't shout character assassination if you refuse to acknowledge them. Oh well, you can't talk sense to irrational people who follow the heard, won't listen to reason, incapable of critical thinking, or being objective.

I don't believe it would be an oversight considering the vision happens same season as it's explosion. Also, if you watch the scene, the Vision. And you change Aerys' pitch. It's sounds different. Like Burn the Wall. Hold the Door Hodor. That goes into a different theory about D&D original execution. I believe Bran was originally meant to be the villain and they changed it after GRRM feel off the board in S6 and that's why Bran becomes this sort of weird not a man character, but it's all in the Vision. D&D did it because they always hated the more serious magical elements of the story because they're tied to souls and religion and it was too complicated to pull off with wanting to be done and over with the project.

Most people with media literacy or people who read the books expected Dany to go mad in some way, a lot of the problem like you said is that it’s not well written, the pacing rushed, the descent is not believable, partly because Dany in the show was whitewashed and because her descent to becoming genocidal takes place in the span of really just two episodes. If Jorah was still around, he could possibly have kept her from burning down King's Landing. The people would have eventually learned to love her, but she had lost all hope when Jon rejected her. When I first watched this episode, I knew because of how things had gone for Dany in the last couple of episodes, the bells would not save King's Landing. Varys talks about his origin story in detail in the Histories and Lore videos. Was an orphan boy in Lys, owned by an actor's troupe, was sold to the sorcerer and left for dead. He lived and became a thief. Learned that "the contents of a man's letters" were often "more valuable than the contents of his purse", met and teamed up with Ilyrio (the man who harbored Dany and Viserys in Pentos) and began recruiting other orphans to be his spies, then he ended up in Westeros sometime during the mad King's reign and ended up in service to him. Then it was Robert's Rebellion.

Great time watching your GOT reactions. Thanks for the entertainment. Speaking of how we would take the pain for our children if we could, I remember when my special needs son was around 4 years old, we took him in for shots and the nurse must have hit a nerve. She seemed uncaring and didn't care at all. Meanwhile my son Warren was looking at me sobbing. He must have wondered why we would let this woman hurt him. I was thinking I wish I could take your pain right now son. I would do anything to take the shots for him! And then it hit me, not to get too religious, but imagine how much pain the Father was in watching His son die on a cross. His innocent Son was crucified by sinners! And I realized it was much harder for the Father to set aside His wrath and let His Son pay the ultimate price.

The thing about Dany is that the seeds of her madness were in season 1. She was what, 13, 14? And watched emotionlessly as her brother was murdered in front of her. We cheered her, because Viserys was the WorstTM, and we felt she was in the right. But we didn't stop to remember this is the only family this literal child has in the world and she loves him and looks up to him as a brother. Then she burned the witch that killed Khal Drogo, and we cheered her, because the witch was The WorstTM, and we felt Dany was in the right. She threatened the 13 at the gates of Qarth, and we cheered her, because the main guy was The WorstTM and she was in the right. She killed the warlocks in Qarth, we cheered her because they were The WorstTM and she was in the right. She massacred all the slaveowners in Astapor, Yunkai, and Mereen, and we cheered her, because they were the worst, and she was in the right. She nailed slaveowners to posts and we cheered her, because they had done the same to children, and she was in the right. The Khals of the Dothraki were the WorstTM and she was in the right so she killed them and we cheered her. We can see at each and every step that the circumstances were such that we were okay with what she did. From her POV, she acted, and people cheered. The circumstances mattered as long as people loved her. When she got to Westeros and found all the love she had in Essos has dissipated, she did what she always did. She acted, and hoped the people cheered.

This is why I don’t understand why people react to Game of Thrones and you’re not even on the last episode. This show is known for being one of the best that ever started and ended horribly and there is a reason why so many people hate it. I’m not saying this to be a dick. I’m just saying it’s not gonna be worth your return on investment and you still don’t even know who the ruler is. Keep this in mind, the show was probably successful that early seasons because of George RR Martin. He hasn’t finished the book series. The last one published was book 5 for context. Danny had just flown off with Drogo and Tyrion hadn’t met her yet. Tyrion was just arriving in Mereen. The fifth book ends with John dying. That’s how much of a gap there is between what is actually published and where the show ends it’s not worth it if you want something and you want something Game of Thrones I would stick with House of the Dragon books published that series out and you can figure out what happens if you really wanted to before the show. And the characters are just as good and there’s more dragons. But this this is not worth it, and it never should be even be considered to start the show in my opinion. It just isn’t worth the ending.

She even chained up her dragons over ONE child dying. I'm supposed to believe she's just gonna snap and slaughter a million people after winning a war? Cmon. But at those times, she wasn't facing this level of dilemma. In mereen she had people who could steer her worst impulses. Just watch the seasons again, there are hints thrown here and there about the one way Daenerys was ready to get what she wanted, i.e. burning people alive. Not saying that she was worse than the tyrants before her, she was obviously better from them. But the thing is that you're only self righteous when your self righteousness doesn't start hurting you. That's when your real test is. Are you capable of doing the right thing, even if it costs you everything? Clearly she couldn't. On the other hand Jon could. Even if he lost everything, he was ready to do the right thing. Even if he knew that Dany was doing the wrong thing, he tried to keep his pledge he had given her. That's the kind of person you want to root for, someone who's willing to do the right thing and keep their promise.

55:37 you're right about the minimal casualties thing before the bells - But I feel like that moment of bells/surrender would have made her angry as well. She could have conquered/done what she did on day one arriving in Westeros up until the bells/surrender (when they only had one scorpion even). I think day one Danny would have let them surrender without a question. - "this is all it would have taken for a surrender/win?" I think is what goes through her head (along with a lot more) when she hears the bells. If she had gone on day one she might still have a much greater army still standing, dragons, friends/support, etc... So I feel like the bells putting her over the edge was a final spiraling moment (maybe not portrayed perfectly - as it was rushed by the writers) but still in its own way perfect if you dive into all the reasons she had. Especially with not sleeping, eating, weight of life/love lost. I also feel like it was a moment of "if I let them surrender/live now what will they take from me next" and "its too late for mercy". They definitely should have gone more into depth with the writing on Danny's part and given us a better idea of what was going on in her head/ not rushed the season, but as somebody else said in the comments "the actors did great with the script they were given".

Dany became what she was trying to kill.

I feel like Varys saw Daenerys becoming more and more of a tyrant herself, especially when she started doing the whole “bend the knee or die” thing. In the past she had always been like, “you can come with me if you want to but if not, cool.” At the end he could tell how ruthless she’d become

Mrs Octover and I were on same page with Arya. I questioned if she was still alive, and whether she rode away into the next world on a Spirit Horse like in Young Guns II

Daenerys story arc started in season 2 at the gate of Quarth….. basically said she would burn everyone and their cities of which have wronged her….. she’s always been that way since she gained a backbone and felt strength….. there’s a video on KZbin y’all should watch that explains every step of the way in which led her to this point…. Y’all should react to it.

Crazy how the show can make you forget about the incest and child killing by Jamie Lannister. Not me ! 😂 I didn’t feel bad for that dude at ALL

He's hands down the best POV character in the books. I hope he gets a better ending if we ever get an ending.

The best advice Tyrion ever gave Dany was to not go North of the wall to save Jon. She would still have Viserion. Jon would have died and never be in a position to challenge her for the Throne and the dead would never have brought the Wall down.

Thank you for catching on to Bran being actually evil 😂 they completely told nothing about Melisandre and just moved on too. Varys and Melisandre definitely go down as the biggest untapped underutilized people in this series for me. They were just used as plot conveniences when the writers needed them and provided no answers.

The Tyiron and Jamie moment is forever one of the best of the show. Arya and Sandor were my favorite relationship too the entire series. That last scene together was hard.

I never understood why Jon says he loves Dany, then 2 mins later turns away from her.

Because she is his aunt! He fell in love with her, but can't be with her, is incest. He grew with the Starks, he has morals.

He says it so she knows he's loyal and won't betray her, and then thinks; "Damn she's coming in for a 20 minute snog again." 😂

@@marcelamontero8694 I understand that, so what he meant to say was ‘I love you as an aunt’ if he was just saying it to prove he was loyal then he shouldn’t lie, coz if you start lying ‘then words don’t mean anything’

Mannnnn how Dany would have went straight to the Red Keep and burned that thing to the ground and then stood on the rubble of Cersei's charred body telling everyone this is a new age of freedom and togetherness... there is just no way she would have burned up innocent civilians and kids like that, at least not without some major character changes over time. THEY DID HER DIRTYYYY.

I think that bran is a lot more nefarious than we know. I think he steered everything in the way it happened. Just so that he can end up on the iron throne. Or the king. 😮

While we start to see Dany go nuts this season, like her father, we saw it all the way back from the start really. We sort of rooted for her, but if rewatch the show now, knowing what we know, you will notice.
