I think Blood Raven is one of the most misrepresented characters on the show, he is nothing like book BR. I am so convinced that the show misrepresents so many characters/events it blinds viewers to what's really going on in the books. They build this incorrect perception in people's minds that they cannot get away from when discussion the books and that's what's soooo different about this channel. You guys are true to the books always and I love it!

GRRM says he wont condone fan fiction with the exception of HBO because they paid him a truck load of money. It was refreshing to hear him refer to the events in the show as fan fiction because so many people think that the events we have recently seen in the show that haven't happened in the books eventually will happen in the books because they think the show is cannon. I seperate books from show like church from state .

+Johnathan Kinne Exactly!! They are totally separate in my mind. The show is total fan fiction, I love the GRRM called it "Licensed" fan fiction. I agree, total separation is what it takes. Most channels I watch treat current show events as cannon and call the books and the show "the same" and refer to TWoW and Season 7 as synonymous lol. They forget that the show is some ways already way past ADWD and totally different form the parts that are the "same". Ugh!

I think that it does better for their youtube following to review the show since there are more show watchers than book readers and the show is much easier to pick apart and analyze than the book series. My hat goes off to channels like The Order of The Green Hand and Preston Jacobs who focus primarily on the books instead of the show.

I Wish the show had more support of resources and time to introduce to other subplots and characters like arianna martell, lady stoneheart, strong belwas, young griff, tyrion in slavery for months, val, jeyne poole, patchface, Arya and Jon snow's wargs all these would be divided into two seasons like affc just season five is weakest of the season, season six would be about adwd but with a lot of subplot cutoff, season 7 would be about stannis in the north, Dany meets one of her husband's former commander, and I think jaime or Brianne one of them might die because of Lady stoneheart, Arya might some point gets an Assassination job to westeros, Davos in skagos which is full of cannibal clans living there, tyrion and jorah joins second sons, young griff and golden company in stormland along with arianna, jon snow's revival might be about the death of shireen to bring jon snow back from death.

Don't forget about the first time Arya sees the resurrected Beric in ACOK. Beric is entangled in a THRONE OF WEIRWOOD with ONE EYE. Also, the Ghost of High Heart (who follows the Old Gods) is always with the brotherhood. She talks to Beric like she is talking through him to someone else instead of talking to the actual Beric. She even calls Beric the "Lord of Corpses" and then laughs like she has some hidden knowledge about what is actually happening. I believe Bloodraven is actually reanimating Beric (I don't buy into your theory that Bloodraven is being used by the Children, I really do think that they believe he is their leader at this point). Bloodraven can warg multiple creatures at once. Why not Beric too? It ties into the theme that Bran becomes more wolf and less human when he wargs into summer too often. It's a shared conscious not just one person ultimately controlling the body. It makes sense that Beric would continually lose a large chunk of himself every time he dies if Bloodraven continually brings him back. We must remember that Beric is being brought back to life in the Riverlands which is riddled with Weirwoods. GRRM has planted the Ghost of High Heart with the Brotherhood for a reason. I believe Thoros of Myr and R'hllor is a huge red herring. The "Kiss of Fire" is a funeral rite, not a resurrection spell. Also, Mel seeing Bloodraven ACTUALLY BEING PRESENT in her flame vision implies that Bloodraven is sending her these visions. His presence is so strong that she starts bleeding.

That's just incredible, never even thought to connect the children of the forest with faceless men, it fits so well. I hope this turns out to be true, its so elegant. You can even connect back to the faceless men origins in valyrian mines, with the caves that the children of the forest are seen to mainly inhabit.
@jimboy3625

S1e1 after ned beheads the deserter, he sheaths his bloody sword. Why not clean it first? He then cleans it in a water next to a weirwood tree. Was Ned knowingly feeling the tree blood?

I have seen so many parallels between Arya and Bran's journey, the house of Black and White, the great other, the drowned god, and the old gods...this is the best explanation tying them all together that I have seen. Also...the "demon tree" and the grey king have always made me wonder if there wasn't some very deep history between the ironborn and the northern "first men"; it's great to see someone finally highlight that in a theory video!

Thank you...we're going to be delving into the Ironborn as soon as we figure out where to place the videos in our Wars to Come series...we try to present our ideas in a manner that will build off of each other so to paint a broader picture of how the individual plot-lines will interesect

"What is dead may never die but rises again harder and stronger," made me think of other non-living things that are particularly hard and strong, like the ice of the wall. After some research I found a kind of ice called "Dead-ice," which is when a glacier melts where it stands. The landscape it leaves behind often becomes a peat bog, kinda like what's at the neck This may be a stretch, but if glaciers once covered the North there could have been dead ice left behind, and the magic of the others or the children could have risen it up into a huge wall that is harder and stronger than glacial ice.

It could also be that the Valyrian magics that created their steel might have used some kind of death to feed it. There is a lot of iron in blood, and quenching the steel in the blood of a sacrifice could have infused the steel with death to strengthen it? There is a kind of steel called Dead Mild Steel, but it's not very strong and is only used for wires and thin plates. If, however there were some kind of deep underground flow of death energy or blood that somehow mixes with the mantle (kinda like a gaia world), then that would explain both veins of exceedinly strong iron and an exceedingly strong oily black obsidian-like stone.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand 8 жыл бұрын
it never occurred to me to apply that same line to inanimate objects...I'm too tired to think about this right now but if you could shoot me another comment reminding me during the day tomorrow or later this week I definitely want to revisit this
@seeranos
@seeranos 7 жыл бұрын
The most interesting part to me is how this phrase so describes the process of organic matter subducting and rising to the surface again as coal and diamonds. In Martin's world we have all these black oily stones rising from deep in the earth, so what if they're made of death? If there were some subterranean, interconnected, magic oil of some kind that the weirwoods fed into directly, then that would sync up with all the other magical things that seems to come out of earth and fire, like dragons. Valyrian steel could come from iron that's mixed with this death-oil (or in blood as a replacement during quenching), and maybe Dawn is the hardest of them all because it's actually a Diamond-form version of this magic carbon cycle. I think it's almost certain that weirwoods tap in to some kind of river, because a 'weir' is what you call the edge of an overflow spillway on a dam or any barrier across a river designed to modify its flow.
@seeranos
@seeranos 7 жыл бұрын
If you wanna go totally off the wall there's a sliver of an argument that we're looking at a world where every carbon atom takes memories of its previous forms into the carbon cycle, and those memories cause magic, but that's probably going too far with the evidence we have. I think it's almost inarguable that if there is stuff going on underground that has ties to the weirwoods and the faceless men, then it should somehow connect to the black stones and other seemingly magical inanimate objects, and it has something to do with feeding a flow of death and blood underground.

If the weirwoods contain green-singer souls or whatever, and just a single throne of weirwood can make sweetrobin start hearing voices, then a whole building made of weirwood would surely make some of its occupants go mad. Additionally, if all those voices are children, attempting to get humans to die, then is pretty much follows that no house would survive long there.
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand 7 жыл бұрын
Weirwoods seem to contain the "souls" for lack of a better word of everyone who was given to a weirwood in death and the children seem to know how to haunt people using them...we don't know much about the Bower, which is the only castle I know of that is made entirely of weirwood in the story, but Garth Greenfield, from what we have heard of him doesn't appear insane...also, only in the North and a select few houses south of the neck are there weirwoods in the castles...and the war has not yet truly begun so we don't yet know how the children will use the weirwoods in the war to come, but I think it likely that they will use them for something sinister
@merovaeus

What makes you think the Weirwood Door is a living tree? It has been theorized elsewhere, I think Weirewood Leviathan, that the door may have been used to pass sacrifices from South to North to appease The Others. A Weirwood Door can be enchanted, it would not need to be alive. Also, it's made clear that the Weirwood sap is red, which is what makes the shining eyes--living trees have sap, not dead ones. Where do we arrive at Weirwoods never rotting? I don't dispute it, but is it said somewhere in text? Weirwood furniture, would be treated and sealed, as you would with other furniture--beyond the throne, a weirwood bow, possibly some Wirewood in certain hilts--how do we know it doesn't rot? Also, what about The Others? If the Children are the Enemy in your theories, why call in Bran? Why allow Bloodraven to communicate at all?
@brendanfechter4889
@brendanfechter4889 7 жыл бұрын
Whitewalls was the site of 2nd Backfire rebellion and a castle made at least partially of weirwood. Bloodraven had it torn down and sewn shut "so it would not be another BF martyr site like the Redgrass Field", a dubious explanation as the 2nd rebellion was a stillborn joke as the 1st was not, the 2nd wasn't even a battle and the 1st was, and you would think the castle would go to a Targ loyalist... But its made of weirwood and BR has it destroyed. And its worth noting that both castles were built on the God's Eye....

I think your video highlights a suspicion I've had about the nature of weirwoods or as I misspell them "werewoods" i. e. man-trees, were being man in old English. That suspicion is that it is not the children but the trees themselves that are the true evil. There are two reasons for this in my opinion: 1) Many things you guys noted, such as the trees having faces with bones in their mouths and also seemingly living from eating the animals or other plants near them. In addition to this, the one mouth of a tree was a passage in the night fort and answered to the words of a man, making it seem that the tree could understand speech and speak. These indicate that although the trees themselves do not interact with humans, they are themselves alive and probably sentient, but they don't show it to possible victims. 2) in other stories of GRRM there are two alien species: Hrangans and Grieshka. The Hrangans are with one exception referred to as the Hrangan minds, as in a plural. THey control other small telepaths that are like the Children as well as giants and bat-creatures. The Hrangans are never faced in open battle nor are they truly defeated, they just hide underground on their homeplanet. So they are powerful telepaths whose true nature is often hidden and they use other telepaths to do their bidding. The Grieshka on the other hand is a fungus which absorbs aliens and people and combines their consciousness to a collective mind of eternal joy while consuming the victim's body. The fungus is investigated by two telepaths but they can't detect any sentience or thought from the fungus, suggesting that it itself is not sentient. However, in the story there is also a human, who, while not being a telepath himself, is able to block telepathic communication from his mind so that only the surface of his mind is able to be understood. This makes me think the fungus is itself sentient, while being at the same time able to hide its consciousness from other telepaths. One of the protagonists of the story is willingly absorbed by the fungus and then contacts the other in his dream trying to convince him to join the fungus. So the fungus absorbed the human's ability much like the weirwood seems to do.

I really like the first statement you made about "were" that is a very interesting observation. To your points on GRRM's other works, I haven't read any of his other stuff, but do you think that he would parallel the ideas exactly. I mean certainly I can see the similarities, just from the little bit you described, but would the same be true in ASOIAF (e.g. The Hrangans existing in some form in the world of ice and fire?)...Are the Hrangan minds and the Grieshka in the same story ? Thanks for the insights!

The Order of the Green Hand not that I ascribe to this theory myself, but I did once watch a lengthy theory video that the universe mentioned above, with the 'deitic' fungus, is the very same universe as g.o.t.. The theory expanded that the g.o.t World is actually a post-apocalyptic one. Post apocalyptic because we see such grand designs that should not be possible according to the existing time line. (Battle Isle, valerian, yi-ti, the five forts, all of these show signs of technological development that should not be possinle in the era pre-dating the age of heroes. The theory then outlined in much more detail.than I can remember that in the sci-fi fungus series humans were eventually forced underground and eventually came back to the world, thus creating the got. world. He argued placed like the battle Isle, valeria and the crypts under winterfell were 'fallout bunkers' to survive the mind controlling alien species, and I believe there were also Monday controlling space bats/vampires of some sort too...

It's funny you've made that connection! I've thought that the HoBaW were in league with the Children due to the nature of one bringing about the demise of the Valyrians and the other owing their release from slavery to the one. There's theories as to the book that Jaqen H'gar is searching for in the Citadel and it's to do with the demise of dragons, like the maesters were responsible for in the first place. But you've connected a lot more dots and reinforced the idea of the black and white, making you [officially] greater "enemies" of GRRM than Preston Jacobs - you two are an author's nightmare and we as fans love you for it lol!

The Order of the Green Hand very dense material indeed! Love your skills of observation! I was remarking to mythos a few days ago about weirwoods keeping their power after being cut down and where we see them from Robins throne to Bloodravens bow to the three weirwood arrows Teflon believed were made by Torrhen Starks bastard brother with the intention of slaying Aegon's dragons. The fact that Thoros was told that be would see nothing in his flames on high heart because the old gods were still strong there despite the trees being nothing but stumps there having been cut down back during the Andal invasion. This tells us that Rhllor isn't as strong as the red priests think and I believe foreshadows future events with Mel at the Wall because she may be stronger at the Wall, the old gods are most definitely much stronger up there than at high heart. Also, the time Bran becomes aware that a dead singer is sharing a bird with him while he is learning to warg birds. This is no typical second life Varamyr speaks of because that singer was most definitely dead before that bird was even born, yet the dead singers are still warging animals, another ability offered by the weirwoods which means that not only examples like Mormonts raven, but all wild animals we read about must be scrutinized. This implies how easily the prophetic dead stag and pregnant direwolf could have been staged at the beginning of the story, possibly by Bloodraven if he suspects the children and is trying to covertly foil their plans because it is definitely crucial that the Stark children received those wolves and the dead stag and patent wolf was him warning the Starks of the wars to come

I love that your theories, aside from being very well researched and argued, are so different from those being spouted all over the web. Your videos are beyond engrossing and I've binge watched most of them just this weekend. They have a very audiobook quality to them and are structured in a fashion very pleasing to my left brain. Needless to say, you've made a believer out of this ASOIF fan. I'm sure some will say that these qualities make your productions tedious and boring, but as Jon Snow, they know nothing. Pay them no mind!! I'll leave you with the recurring thought that comes to mind every time you say: "This video's already running too long.".... NOOOOOOO, NOT LONG ENOUGH!!! 😁 Keep it up!!! 🤘👍🤘

Great vid again guys, a couple of points I notice. - We don't "sow" - Raiding, sure, but it sounds like they just straight-out hate plants. - House "Blackwood" - are the people sent to guard the white trees
@TheOrderoftheGreenhand

sorry for taking so long to respond...we had a bit of a situation on our hands and your comment slipped past us....those are some very interesting observations that I hadn't thought about before...I don't know that We do not sow necessarily means that they hate plants...I always took it as the Greyjoys consider themselves above working in the fields, but like everything GRRM writes there could be more to it than what initially meets the eye...it is definitely an interesting idea that Blackwoods guard the special white tree
@jamespinto1884
@jamespinto1884 8 жыл бұрын
:) I believe the "we don't sow" thing would be a bit too obvious to possibly be true. Also, there is a popular theory that Nagga's bones are actually the giant weirwood tree. I found this link but I'm not sure it's the right one www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/517zzs/spoilers_everything_if_naggas_bones_petrified/ In short, it goes as follows: in the past the iron islands used to be a single island that was covered by a great flood, possibly another dorne-arm thing, so they built a giant boat with the demon tree wood (here we go, noah's ark) and now everybody believes it was actually a giant serpent's spine when actually it is the boat's structure. The theory gets a lot of weight because it is references that some versions of the story said there was a crown made of nagga's teeth, or weirwood, depending on the sources. Again, loving the videos, guys :D

Loving your series and this video. My concerns with your theory are: The heart tree at Raventree Hall is described as dead. Why just that one described as dead? Now maybe it's just that specific tree that is described that way but then what about the ravens, which you describe as humanistic but they are also linked with the trees and that that tree specifically? Is it possible the trees are not dead but some embodiment of life instead? If only death can pay for life then the sacrifices pay for their LIFE. If they are essentially life incarnate, or whatever, then rotting should be out of the question. I think the memories of people being stored in them works fine whether they are dead or alive as, in a sense, the deceased are kept 'alive' in memory. I admit I haven't finished the video so if you've covered these questions never mind. I multitask and so I tend to miss the end and so haven't commented on so many I wanted to.

The Order of the Green Hand Either that or bloodraven isn’t alive at all and is being used as a puppet in the same manner as the wights to prop up the illusion to Bran & those before Bran that they are talking to bloodraven. If bloodraven has no blood in his body it would make some sense that he is certainly dead. The weirwood net prob knows that it needs some messenger/prop to deceive those it leads down there, b/c “alive” people might be too scared if they were to talk to a wigth like in the army of the dead. None the less the illusion of bloodraven being royalty adds more power to the illusion as well.

Oh I love getting an alert w/your channel attached!! I know what follows will be great😊. RE Bloodraven- do you think Bloodraven played a hand in hatching Daenerys's dragons? In AGOT, Dany 3, she enters her tent and "sees a finger of dusty red light reach out to touch her dragon eggs across the tent. For an instant a thousand droplets of scarlet flame swam before her eyes". Any time there's a reference to a thousand of something, my ears perk up because of the 'a thousand eyes and one' association to BR. Also, scarlet/red reminds me of blood lol.

Jim Young who do you think Quaithe is? I'm leaning towards Shiera Seastar. Which connects to Bloodraven as he and Shiera were lovers. I think it would be cool if the two of them were helping two characters who's roles in the war for the dawn are crucial.
@jimboy3625
@jimboy3625 8 жыл бұрын
+Ashley of Naath I'm not sure who Quaithe is although I agree with the The Order of the Green Hand that Shiera Seastar is Melisandra. Check out their other videos, I think this Shiera\Melisandra nugget is in GoT: Mysteries, Myths, and Motives part 3 about 15min in or so. Quaithe may just be a shadow binder or sorcerer from Ashai but I've not made up my mind on her yet. She definitely has a motive to direct Danny that I don't understand yet.

This one took more time and energy than any of them before it...almost all of the ideas we have shared we had almost fully formed a year before we made our first video...the added research we do in prep for a vid is usually just pulling the quotes and in doing so we usually have an additional idea or two we work into it, but when we got a few pages into this script, we realized we needed to prove how the weirwoods worked and what they were for our idea to make sense, and we had some stuff put together already but not nearly enough to build an argument as strong as we needed it to be to make our idea hold up to even mild scrutiny, so we must have read 2000 pages between us this past week about all sorts of crazy stuff like albino redwoods and these weird Japanese trees Mythos turned us onto a month or so ago when we were talking to her about it, and combined that with red leaved parasite plants and about 100 other things and the text to try and figure out how we could fairly definitively prove these weird trees were practically part of the "underworld" existing in the world of the living...

The Order of the Green Hand that is both extremely impressive and the wisest way to go about it because GRRM definitely researches and follows the scientific angle towards everything. He even refused to give his dragons four legs like traditional fantasy even though he knew giving them two legs technically classified as wyverns because he wanted then to look more realistic and there are no real animals with four legs and wings. You guys rock

I suppose its worth noting that a tree that large-- significantly larger than the other trees of its species-- indicates that it is 1. Very freaking old like wa-a-ay older that all the other trees, 2. It's growing in the best possible location for optimal growth, and 3. no catastrope (weather, climate or human) killed it yet. There being a gargantuan weirwood at Blackwood Hall indicates that all the other weirwoods on Westeros could be like... root suckers. But that's only if I assume a weirwood is so analogous to a tree.

Hey, just passing to leave some food for thought. All your theories really made me reconsider all my thoughts on the series, and somethings you say seem highly appealing to me. I got myself agreeing with everything for some hours, but I had to think it through more thoroughly. And so I came up with this. I think your theories are amazing, you are really delivering surprising stuff, when it seemed that everything was thought trhough already. And you base everything in the text, it's invaluable stuff, indeed. But some points in your theoris must be explained with more details, I'd say. For exemple: 1. If Lyanna gave birth to baby Aegon in the crypts in Winterfell how did a silver haired newborn baby get on his own to Starfall in time for the baby swap, considering Lyanna died giving birth to him and Rheagar was either getting to the Trident or rotting at some point along the Red Fork? 2. When exactly did Ned and Ashara go separate ways, given the fact that he was alone for the negotiation with Hoster in Riverrun? How did Ashara go back to Starfall on her own from said point? 3. How exactly is that Rheagar is with Lyanna in the crypts in anytime? I'm not an expert in timelines, but Rheagar's time line seems the most confusing to me. 4. The age of Malora Hightower seemed a little off to me, again I'm not an expert on timelines, so maybe I'm missing something here. 5. The connection between Mance (Arthur Dayne) and Stannis is such a good theme! It may be a theme for a video on its own! But your arguments were a little confusing to me. I didn't understand clearly if the quick war with the wildling upon Stannis' arrival at Castle Black was in the initial plan that Mance presented to Stannis or was it a kind of betrayal from the part of the Lord of Dragonstone? Why did Val have to plea for Mance's life if they were together afterall? 6. I get all the ideia of the show going in a totally different direction from the book, so us readers don't get spoiled and all. But I think you needed to adress some questions that the show raises in regard to all your theories. In the first videos you address this subject, but though you repeat a lot of stuff in the other videos you never mentioned the show again. I'm not the show guy, but the fact that the show exists and that Martin is a part of it makes it impossible not to take it into consideration. You explained very well why you think the show version of the tower of joy does not conflict with your theories, but other points in which your theories and the show collide are not so clear, in my opinion. I'm sorry if i'm a little vague here. I think i'm gonna watch all your videos again, and I'll come back with more details about this particular question, perhaps in doing so I can be more clear about it. 7. I simply loved your take in all the Catelyn situation, but you mention ALL her children being bastards. I was shocked to hear that because you give no further explanation. One thing is to say she's an impulsive, thoughtless and selfish bitch. I couldn't agree more. When you introduced the video saying that the whole chapter was worth reading, i really doubted you. But, indeed, just to read it, with no further commentaries was enough for me to see it all cristal clear. It is a totally differente thing, though, to state that her children are not Ned's. It takes the argument to a whole new level, and there's no way you're leaving us with such a tremendously big piece of unbiased accusation and no explanation at all, lol. 8. Howland Reed is one of the most popular hidden characters in the whole series of books, and he is certainly involved in some serious shit because Martin would not conceal such an amazing guy from us if there was not something huge about him or about what he might know of key past events in the story. He is so important, in my opinion that when I watched your first video and heard the "green hand" stuff for the firs time I honestly thought that it was something to do with the crannogman, and not with Garth Greenhands. Ok, I admit that to link everything to Garth was a real accomplishment, you really rocked at that, but stil, you talk too little of our most beloved and misterious "frogeater". I really would like to hear where do you think Howland fits in the big picture, and also about the fates of Jojen and Meera, if you would be so nice :P These are just some questions I had I'd appreciate your view in them, but it does not mean your job is not a good one! On the contrary! You ar the best asoiaf stuff in the internet right now i'm looking forward for more Mysteries, Myths and Motives! Please excuse me if my english seems a little weird, I'm brazilian and a second language is a tricky business sometimes. So, I couldn't thank you enough guys. I thought all I had to do now was wait till 2030 or so for the Winds of Winter, but I couldn't be more wrong! you guys consistently proved that there is stil much and more to debate and there will always be a mistery worth beign passionate about when it comes to the world of ice and fire, in a broader sense. Thank you, thank you! All the best for you! You are already a success! I'm glad I can participate in this.

The part about the children in their thrones leaching off of Bloodraven makes me think of The House of the Undying. How Dany saw corpses around a table with a blue beating heart and how they wanted her to stay so they could leach off of her (which the leaching happens pretty quick). I've always thought the Hotu with their black barked blue trees and shade of the evening as being opposites or maybe a tainted version? This leaching act and example brings even more parallels between these sides. Curious your thoughts on these connections or your guy's general thoughts on the House of the Undying.

One of the most intriguing weirwoods for me is the black gate, in the nightfort. It seems it could've been used by the nights king, for sacrifices, but why? Its just a glorified door at that point, any gate would let you through the wall. Which got me thinking, what if its not just a gate through the wall, what if its a portal? When you say the nights watch vows it lets you through the wall, to the other side, but if you said some other phrase, possibly in the true tongue or the old tongue or the ice language of the others, itll take you somewhere else. I think the nights king could have used it as a portal, possibly to the lands of always winter, gods eye, shadow lands, or wherever, but that is where the nights king took the "sacrifices".

You should do a Q&A video cuz I know I am not the only one whom has a lot of questions.

Thank you...We're getting a camera this week and are going to do one soon...we're probably going to end up scheduling one or two of them every month I think...we haven't decided yet and it will depend on how much time we have but we have had dozens if not hundreds of requests for one and we're going to do our best to accommodate

that's great but you don't even have to do live ones. grab a few of your favorite questions from different videos, read them, and answer. boom 100k views :) but make sure you say the persons name who asked the question because people love a KZbin shout out. once again thank you both for making videos that force me to rethink and now reread the books.

The Stark children are not scattered because of children/faceless men/weirwoods though. There were an incredible amount of circumstances caused by many people from different factions necessary to get Bran to the north & Arya to Bravos. If they have the power to foresee, plan and cause all of this, they wouldnt need to set this up in the first place.

Great video :D I too have thought that the Weirwood is used as a sort of network between the dead souls, and the living. And that the children often lets their souls go into the trees when they die. And they become one. Immortal souls with a lot of knowledge and secrets. And a greenseer can accsess this knowledge when he is connected to the trees. But at what price? An early death? Must he commit his soul to the weirwood when he dies? And if so wil all his sectrets be known to the other souls in the trees. Is this perhaps my the Stark bury their dead in crypts rather than in the soil. As to keep their souls intact and not in the weirwood.

Seems like a whitewashing of Bloodraven's betrayal of Aenys. Aenys was just asking to be peacefully nominated as a candidate for king. They didn't have to choose him if they didn't want to. Bloodraven had him killed meaninglessly. There's no excuse for that. He forsook his honor for the sake of something petty like vengeance. He was not protecting the realm.

I noticed that in theTyrion chapter after the battle of blackwater, where he is injured and transported back into the castle, he describes the scene as black and white and that all colours are gone. This reminded me of Bran when he enters the cave. Do you think there is a connection? Maybe it has something to do with all the death that resulted from the battle.

I very much like your video series, and you present a strong case for many of your notions. There is one thing that's bothering me, though, and that is your notion that Bloodraven is trapped by the Children. I made a post about half a year ago, in which I discussed the life of Bloodraven. If you absolutely want to read it, I could link it, but I'd rather not. I am unhappy with how it turned out, and I am convinced much of it isn't true or at least inacurate. What I do believe from it, though, is that the Children and the Faceless Men are in fact working together, as you also suggest, but I also think that Bloodraven is on their side. Going into details would take too long, but if you want me to expand on any of the following points let me know. I believe Bloodraven spent some time with the Faceless Men in his youth. I also believe, as you say, Bloodraven sought out the Children, and went into the cave willingly. I believe that once there, he changed his view on the world, and "joined the Children", so to speak. I do believe Leaf, that they were in fact "dwindling", that they were resigned to their fate. I think Bloodraven rekindled their hopes of wiping out the humans, and that with him they made their plans. What changed Brynden's mind? I think it was a mix of him realizing how terrible the humans are and recentment towards the people who had shown him no appreciation for everything he had done. A theory, which I really like, is that the "brother I loved" was in fact Daemon Blackfyre, not Daeron (www.reddit.com/r/pureasoiaf/comments/5dqdj6/bloodraven_and_the_brother_he_loved/). I believe the triggering moment could be him seeing Daemon again. To get back to your video, what I don't quite understand is why you think Bloodraven is a prisoner, so to speak? I've read Bran III quite a lot recently (working on an essay about it), and I don't see any hostility between Brynden and the Children. And why would he bring Bran to the cave? The only answer I can think of is that Brynden is powerless, but he hopes that the Bran can fight the Children. I don't quite see that being the case, though. For example, I fail to see what Brynden would do should the Children do the same to Bran as they did to him. Should that happen, "feeding" Bran to the weirwood.net would surely serve against his goals. So to wrap up this way to long comment, I suppose my question is this: what makes you believe Bloodraven is there against his will, and not actually a part, if not the head, of the Childrens' masterplan? And why would he bring Bran to the cave is he not a part of the Children's plan? I suppose you might touch on this in a future episode, so if that's the case I'll be patient and wait for that.

we're going to touch on a lot of that in our upcoming videos but I answer your question that you asked at the end...I can't see a scenario where the things that Bloodraven was accused of (even if he did them) being evil...even if he manipulated the entirety of westeros and killed off a half dozen targaryens, the result was Egg on the throne and without his actions Dany and her dragons would have never been born...so to I can't think of him as anything but an underappreciated demonized hero (and I don't believe he did even a third of what he was accused of)...people like to demonize those in power, whether it is a President of the United States, a CEO, or whatever...there were people who actually blamed a President of the US for the trajectory of a hurricane and that he steered it with a top secret machine to destroy minority neighborhoods

I think you misunderstood my comment. In my mind Bloodraven was a great hand (and to be fair, ruler) of the Seven Kingdoms. I agree, I think he was demonized by the people for using unorthodox methods. What I suggested was that he changed his mind once he came to the cave, for reasons I pointed out in my original comment. With that said, I don't see any point going further into that now, it's probably better if I bring it up in a couple of weeks, if you by then still haven't convinced me :) Keep up your great work, looking forward to the next videos!

Very interesting idea! Bloodraven is a very interesting and complicated character! The COTF are very ambiguous characters, and GRRM is capable of making the people that we think are the allies, actually be the enemy, and vice versa. I worry that he is going to make the Starks the big bad guys of the whole series! I do think the weirwoods drink blood, but I am not sure it's malicious. Maybe so! I don't know if I buy the whole idea but I like how you put it all together and it certainly gives a person something to think on. And we have time to think and speculate while waiting for GRRM to get us the next book. Keep on with the good work.

Also, very sorry to hear about the threats. Scary stuff. It is easy for people to troll on the internet. People say things online they would never consider saying to someone's face. It is almost like we are not real to one another, and that is simply not the case. I sometimes am shocked at how serious people act over another persons opinion about a fictional story, or over sports teams or politics. Hope things get better for you guys!

i was actually a little disappointed with the first video but damn that blew my mind. everything makes a lot more sense now. if i had a question it would come down to the unanswerable - what are the motivations of the others and what is the true nature of the wall. And the pact. and R'hllor. and the Doom. and the breaking of Dorne. and the Stranger. im having to rethink everything. i have to rewatch preston jacobs faceless videos again because he absolutely missed this. its funny, in the gods chamber in the house of black and white the weirwood felt odd, it seemed like such an esoteric symbol. They dont fit the modern idea of what a god is. after watching this video im fairly sure that its actually the Rhllor symbol that is the real odd man out. because if the faceless men are actually Old God agents that means they should be opposed to the worship of R'hllor. but they hide their disdain. they allow all to partake of the blessed gift of absolution and death. you guys rock.

The pact.... one thing I have always wondered is, why doesn't anyone understand that "the deep woods" are just that. The caves riddled throughout the world, that give the children easy access to the weir wood net. It's obvious to me, and it makes the pact FAR less one sided.

Binge watching your videos. Logically, the next theory should be that the pact between the children and the 1st men should be that the Night's Watch isnt really a a guardian force guarding the realms of men...by force. Instead, they are guarding the realms of men by being a constant supply of sacrifices to the weirwood trees. Now that the Brotherhood has dwindled in numbers too low to maintain a constant ranging north of the wall, the weirwood trees, via the children of the forest, have unleashed the others upon mankind in Westeros.

Q&A on the subject of the faceless men, since we agree that the faceless men took a personal interest in Arya beyond mere recruitment, do you subscribe to the theory that Jaquen Hagaar was Syrio Forel? He trained Arya in a similar fashion as the faceless men and even mentioned the one god being death which is straight up faceless men ideology. I'll understand if you're saving the subject for a video.

Do what you have to do. They might be depending on you to cave, I won't try to tell you what to do because I don't know exactly what's going on and it doesn't affect me in the end but I know how it feels to have someone interfere in my life and... yea. Don't want to rant so I'll cut myself off now. Love talking to you guys too and I'm glad you know I'm harmless. I've thought about starting a channel but I've only had like 3 or 4 ideas that were ok, a couple that I debunked while working on them and like two dozen that I found out had already been thought of. Plus I have a 9 year old autistic daughter that I take care of full time and never would have the time to invest in making videos like you do and I'm very impressed with what you guys do. Most other theorists pass around the same theories like a joint at a party so I'm not surprised that you have one or two trying to prey on your theories because they are not only brilliant but there are no others like them anywhere on the Internet as I'm sure you're already aware of and there staring at these fresh ideas with hungry eyes... I'm ranting again. I have chronic word vomit. Once again good luck and do what you gotta do. I'm gonna hop off here becaus see I'm learning about magnetism from Ken Wheeler videos and this guy is insanely hard to follow when I'm paying full attention.
