Funny thing on the mention of the terrible website pushing people to Element, I had the same experience in element this weekend. I had never visited the shop before, but its pretty shocking as a customer experience. Nothing is priced, you're directed to use QR codes which just take you to the website - but not everything has QR codes so you just spend half your time browsing the website anyway and the ceiling is falling in. With the reputation (rightly deserved) that element has, it was quite shocking. The Nottingham store is smaller by comparison but a much, much nicer shopping experience.

Thanks guys (and especially Peachy) for pointing out the pain us White Scars are having now - as well as no Captain on bike, they also deleted regular bikes, scout bikes, the land speeder, 3 other flavours of speeder, and had already got rid of the Khan on bike at the start of 10th. It's become a meme/joke now amongst us Scars that Korsorro is on foot! And then they release the Stormlance detachment - 3 stratagems out of the 6 are for mounted units (so now just outriders and ATVs), and 2 of the 4 enhancements are for mounted characters (now just the Chaplain on bike)!

As a former paramedic in the US, I just wanted to point out the area I am from EMS and the fire department are separate entities. What you guys are talking about is common in other places, but in the Pittsburgh area, almost every ambulance is privately owned except for big cities. For example, in Pittsburgh, the city owns the ambulance, but the ambulance also does all rescue and medical.
@M0U53B41T Жыл бұрын
afaik fire and EMS are separate pretty much everywhere here in the US - Fire dept will show up for emergencies, as well as an ambulance EMS crew at times, since they're trained. But only an ambulance crew will transport you to the hospital. The other sad thing people outside the US don't necessarily understand is we get a separate bill for everything. So, my son had an emergency as a kid at school (he's fine!) - ambo,, ER room, ER doctor, children's hospital, anaesthesiologist and surgeon.

When you see these big square icons, and menus that collapse, the change is to add a canned library that makes the website morph for every device. The downside is it kinda does a lot of weird stuff, like you can grab and move parts of the website, which locks the screen, and then you have to reload to keep using it.
@anotherzingbo Жыл бұрын
In my opinion the old GW web store was creaky and did need replaced. At an absolute minimum the way the dynamic elements of the pages stopped working after a few minutes unless you reloaded the pages was awful, and so was the way region and language encoding was handled. However the new web site is not an upgrade. The Register, an IT news web site has written that GW has been struggling with a massive IT upgrade for years - since 2019, I think. Bringing the new website online suggests to me (and this is utterly unfounded speculation) that someone in management drew a line in the sand and said that there were to be no more delays and the website had to be online by a fixed date, come what may. The intent may have been to focus minds on actually getting issues fixed and things working - but that did not happen and the site launched in a partly complete state.

I wonder if there's any truth to the story that the old website was built by the former CEO's wife's company, it could also be to get away from reliance on them? Idle afternoon thoughts.
@bionicgeekgrrl11 ай бұрын
@andrewdickinson1041 bespoke maintenance costs can be astronomical. But it is probable that the website is just the tip of a huge iceberg, with many pieces used by the warehouse, logistics, distribution, manufacturing etc and those have certainly seemed to be struggling in recent years. The website deficiencies are probably deemed inconsequential compared with those other systems working more reliably, the website can improve over time but if the other systems fail it costs a small fortune to resolve.

Combining Forge World and Games Workshop online shops is a great thing to do. It's the inclusion of the marketing site that makes it all suck. 100% down to internal bureaucracy and rounds of gut feeling feedback from whoever managed the product. There’s a set pattern for how all e-commerce sites work, so it doesn’t matter if you’re buying trainers or minis; generally you know what to do. I’m guessing this was made by an agency and not an internal team, so I wouldn’t hold your breath on it being improved much beyond what it is currently, as the cost of taking it beyond a minimum viable product would be huge.

In Canada, whether an ambulance belongs to the hospital, the fire fighting service, or is it's own thing, varies a lot by jurisdiction. In Alberta, most ambulances actually belong to the provincial Emergency Medical Services and have their own stations. But that's a "happened in the last decade" situation and so in some communities, the ambulances are co-located with the fire stations because historically that community fire services ran the ambulances. And in a couple of places, like the County of Strathcona (a county is a rural municipality) which has an f-ton of money because all the oil refineries are in Strathcona, the local standard for equipment and training was much higher than the provincial standard (all of Strath County's firefighters are also paramedics) and so they continue to own their ambulances (although they're dispatched by the provincial 9-1-1 centres). But more relevantly, in Alberta it's standard procedure to send a fire truck to any medical call on a "medical assist." There's a couple reasons for that. First, if the problem is on, say, a busy road, a fire truck is a wonderful thing to use to block the road and create a safe space to work in. Second, if the situation involves, say, hauling someone down three flights of stairs, having a bunch of burly fire-fighters on hand is a big help. But third, and most important, in a lot of medical emergencies the most important thing is to get ANYONE there as fast as possible to keep the patient alive until the paramedics can show up. And fire trucks can, on average, get to most calls faster than anyone else. Partly this is because if there's a fire, time really matters, and so there are more fire stations than ambulance stations in most cities - meaning the fire truck is probably close to the call than the ambulance. And partly it's just because people *notice* fire trucks - they're big, they're red, they have loud engines, and if you're music really is turned up way too loud the fire truck has that great big air horn. So fire trucks can get past traffic better than ambulances or police cars, and that means they get there first.

From what I remember Captain Rex's whole armour is a mix, it's just that the helmets more obvious from the weld lines. The phase 01 armour was more protective but worst for manoeuvrability, but phase 02 had better breathing apparatus and comms. In one episode he gets shot and the phase 01 bit stops the blast which he thanks to the better protection of the earlier armour.

In response to your discussion about ambulances in the US: Most municipalities in the US have separate Fire and EMS services, but not all. In some cases, fire and paramedics are the same service, such as New York City. In essentially every fire department, most firefighters are required to be EMTs (Emergency Medical Technicians, like paramedics but a lower level of care). There's a least one case, Maryland, where they have police that are paramedics. But obviously those are usually separate departments as well. I believe that ambulances are pretty different in the US versus the UK. I believe you have entirely (or mostly, at least) publicly funded/run ambulances through the NHS. In the US, there are private ambulance services, such as AMR, that provide emergency response the same way that the NHS would. That is fairly uncommon, but not unheard of. In the US, at least in more rural states/areas, much of the fire and EMS services are volunteer, where people are not paid or paid only a little per call. Additionally, I believe that in the UK, most ambulances have a paramedic and a physician, in the US that is very rare. Most ambulances that are paid would have two paramedics, whereas most volunteer ambulances may have one paramedic and one EMT, or two EMTs. Anyhow, great discussion as always! Enjoying the show, gents (and dog)!

At this point I'm assuming the 360 removal is deliberate and permanent, since someone figured out how to make a program that automatically turns them into 3D models suitable for 3D printing. A lot of the releases put out just before the new website didn't have 360s. (And just to be clear, I hate this. The 360s were great.)

I was just about to point this out. What a cracking episode, loved all the discussion in the new digs, which are looking awesome already! The new website is really interesting, I generally agree its not good, downright bad in places and it breaks so may best practices, there however a few good elements. The technology side of things is right upto date on the frontend side, however the need for a queuing system and the number of errors thrown suggest the the backend systems are still a huge limiting factor. I think that's the reason for the change, the technology has been vastly updated, and will be much easier to maintain going forward. Putting a managers head on i think the update is good but it feels like the visuals where driven by a managers want to make things look shiney rather than carrying out user research and finding out what the users needs are.

In the US ambulances are not tied to Fire and rescue. They are strictly paramedics. However, almost all Fire and rescue have first responders trained in basic medical response with “ambulances.” They are called rescue squads. They will take you to the hospital if the real paramedics are too far away.
@davydatwood3158 Жыл бұрын
I would assume that like most things, it probably varies a lot from State to State? Certainly it does in Canada, and America is kind of infamous for how ten different States will do things twelve different ways. But on this side of the border, some ambulances belong to the fire department and some belong to their own organisation, depending on where you are. And at least one fire department trains all it's firefighters as paramedics and rotates them between the red trucks and the white trucks. (Though admittedly, that's because they have a lot of oil money and need a very, very good fire department in case an oil refinery blows up.)

Two points: 1) As a member of the software developer union, I feel I need to stick up for GW’s website developers. Even if a website or an app looks fine to the user, it might be creaking behind the scenes - either expensive to run, difficult to maintain or full of security issues. I assume a combination of the these is why GW did a big-bang refresh. I agree that it’s terrible but hopefully it’ll see the kind of evolution that the 40K army builder has seen. (As an aside, I think GW has the same problem that the public sector has when it comes to IT - it simply doesn’t pay market rate for skills and so struggles to attract experienced talent. It’s easy to underpay games developers and painters, less so software developers who can easily get a job elsewhere.) 2) DOGGO!!!!! 🐶 🐶 🐶 ❤

The premier lancers in Napoleon's armies were from Poland. I think they were part of the Imperial Guard too.

I tried reading the comments here in Patrick's online voice and it sounds bad also lol. It works for everything!

Updating the website would have been totally ok. I think it definitely had issues. What they have done is removed most of the core functionality and key user journeys, while not addressing any of the old issues, which is... a bold move.

That Necromunda idea about the trauma team is such a good idea! Would love to see it in your Necromunda campaign

So that website. A friend of mine is an epileptic. He literally can't use it anymore, due to the flashy fullscreen autoplay shit.

For charity, you guys should do a live stream where the drinks (15yr old whiskey) are free flowing, while answering questions from the community. Also… What a way to end to end the show LOL 😂👍 🐶

There are accessibility issues with the new site that make my eyes twitch. And I’m not talking about buying models (still can’t get the free W+ model btw), the site does not comply to WCAG 2.0 guidelines

Just thinking about the armed Medics. Would it work if they were a faction & you'd make an alliance with them?

Fun fact My regiment were one of the few regiments to stand up to a full cavalry charge by not gng into a box formation and stood in lines and repelled them, as the Russians thought it was a trap, Nope just some crazy jocks Also it's where the "thin red line" came from we would celebrate it every year as a regiment as it was know as rhe battle of balaclava Dunk the inquisition

To be fair, they did assault me with multiple emails regarding transferring vouchers before the new website went live. I do use assault because the emails were annoying and I got like 3 when 1 was all I'd need
