I've been an EMT for 5 years, and getting through medic school now. My EDC is 2 pens (a Pilot G2 for myself, and throwaway loaner for my partner/patient/nurse, etc. that I don't care if it gets lost/stolen); small notepad from my local hospital that has pre-typed boxes for vitals, SAMPLE, and demographics-- love these things and use it literally every call; 2 pairs of gloves; and, a wide roll of medical tape (take the cardboard tube out of the middle and crush the roll so it stays flat in your pocket-- great for any time you need tape, or put a strip on your thigh to write quick vitals/notes on the go). That's pretty much it, just the bare essentials that I use at least every day if not every call.

Personally as an EMT in a high call volume city I carry two pens and a pen light. My notepad in my left side pocket, handsanatizer and extra gloves. Right side pocket usually just a bandanna for wiping sweat during summer months. I carry my raptor shears and Olight flashlight on my belt. We also wear body armor so I have my radio on that and pager. Personal med kit, tourniquet and goggles on there. I also have my Littmann 3 on a quick release lanyard attached to my lapel of my vest, as well as extra gloves.

I'm not there yet, hoping to take my EMT course next year, but as a driver, I carry a finger pocket knife, a pen, an extra n95, gloves, notebook, all that with me. In my lunchbox, always extra eyedrops, chapstick, caffeine pills (220mg) surgical masks (at least 3) a dude wipe (hey now) and advil :)

Paramedic in a high volume call area: Raptor Trauma shears on the belt Leatherman Rebar Multitool on the belt O-Light M2R Flashlight Black Diamond Headlamp 2 Black pens 1 Rite-in-Rain Flip notebook plus a mechanical pencil Stethoscope (Classic III) 18, 20, 22 guage IVs at least 2 flushes (to keep closer to body temperature) Alcohol Prep pads Gloves galore Safety glasses Honestly I NEVER use the headlamp but I hesitate to get rid of it because I know as soon as I do I will have to intubate someone in a dark room lol. I also have a few cards with different pediatric baseline vitals throughout development, EKG Highlights, and MCI triage criteria but, again, they never really come out except during academic discussions. I also always try to have a book in the ambulance that will help further my professional education during moments of downtime rather than scrolling through FB or TikTok.

What are your thoughts on the Leatherman Raptor Rescue shears to combine shears and O2 wrench?
@theww2girl141
@theww2girl141 3 жыл бұрын
@@andrewzrnich8307 I never used them, but one of my EMT/firefighter friends has a pair and he loves them, he said he was able to cut through a motorcycle jacket and a zipper with them. I asked both of my partners at the FD and one of them that has a pair, and he says besides being expensive, they take a bit longer to deploy and my other partner he doesn't have a pair but thinks that they're a bit too expensive.

Thanks for the reply @the WW2 girl! Let your partners know that Leatherman offers a 40% discount to first responders.
@theww2girl141

@@andrewzrnich8307 You're welcome sir. I've heard that they do that, but I'm still debating if I want to get a pair or not. The reasoning I'm debating is, yes they do work and hold up really well, but do I really want to pay for something that expensive (even with that discount) if it takes a bit longer to deploy? PrepMedic had a great video on it I believe. I have a cheap pair of shears that my partners needed on a trauma call a couple of weeks ago and they worked fine and one of the guys on the wagon needed them this morning to cut something and they worked. Maybe later down the road I might consider it.

I just started at a local VFD about 2 months ago (haven't been to EMT school yet, I'm only watching but they let me do some basic stuff). My EDC is extra gloves (2 or 3 pairs), at least 2 pairs of surgical face mask, a notebook, shears, a pen light, pens, my phone, wrist watch, and my wallet.

I carry a single cell stream light flashlight, pocket knife, a lighter, 3' of Mariners line. I carry a triangle bandage and a chest seal on my left leg pocket, then spare gloves in my right leg pocket. In my belt tool pouch (it's small don't worry) I have spare batteries, tape roll, note pad, 2 pens, shears, cell phone, and a small sharpie fine tip. That's it so far but I've only been an EMT-B for about five months. I'll be going to an A EMT course in September so that'll be fun.

I carry a pen and sharpie in my shirt sleeve pen slots. In my leg cargo pockets I carry a BLS field guide, notebook, extra Venom Steel gloves, and N95 mask. In front right pocket I carry another pen and a flashlight. Then in front thigh pockets I carry a pupil light and a small folding knife. Then x shears on my belt in the holster. Im surprised that more people have not mentioned a flashlight. Couple times I've had to provide light for my ALS partner while they do a iv stick in a dimly lit house.

As an EMT I got the pants with 8 pockets. Back pockets are nothing. Left pocket has my wallet, hand sanitizer and AirPods, right is for my phone. Left side pocket I got a multi-tool, a small EMS field guide, tourniquet, shears, penlight. Right pocket is for my steth, I have multiple pens and a sharpie, cause I end up losing mines or my partners take it from me like a ninja lol. Bottom pockets are small trash bags and snack pockets. I really like your idea of carrying an O2 key, thank you!

Being an emt you are a paramedics other hands or there second set of eyes and ears. As such it is important to carry stuff which is stuff I carry also that will most assist your partner/paramedic. Extra gloves for both you and your partner, pen light and tape are a must. Just because they have it doesn’t mean they’re hands won’t be busy all the time. Note pad and pens. I like sharpes. Shears and o2 key. And lastly one tourniquet. You never know when some one may spring a leak.

Rural AEMT, 24 years. EDC, pens, a Sharpie, a small notebook, at least 4 pairs of gloves, and a small rechargeable flashlight. Any cheat sheets I need, like medication or field guides, are on my phone. Gerber multitool and Raptor shears on my belt. I hate seeing EMTs carrying tape since it always ends up covered in lint and dirt, not something you want to place on a wound. If you carry tape, get the kind that comes in a container to stay clean. My stethoscope, N-95 respirator, a Streamlight Bandit headlamp, eye protection, and a few other nice to have but pain in the ass to carry items go in a bag that I leave on the ambulance when I'm on shift.

We wear polos so I have a pen/penlight and a pen on my sleeve a clip on flash light on my chest. I wear a belt just for work with a radio holster, spare gloves, x shears, Gerber multi tool, pulse ox and badges. Right cargo has gloves (handful), left cargo is my pad, lens cleaner, and phone. If it weren’t pandemic I’d have an N95 (I wear my 95 on every call been lied to too many times). Regular pants pockets are keys, wallet, ear buds, some cash, knife, and a couple other odds and ends I carry all the time. Don’t forget the stethoscope.

Quick reference book a small pocket flashlight.(I prefer a flashlight over a pin light). Extra gloves, my raptor shears. A headlight. My stethoscope, wide safety glasses to go over my prescription glasses (I’m getting to be a blind old fart). Things that I’ve been thinking about adding to my EDC a CATT tourniquet, a tension, pneumothorax chest start, A old fashion, petroleum gauze, bandage wrapped in a foil package (use the foil, throw away the gauze) and a good multitool.

As an EMT basic, I carry two pens on the left shoulder pocket (we wear polos). Now some call me crazy but I wear a duty belt. A klick belt. On said belt starting from my left side, I have a streamlight strion in a Bianchi accumold holder. Coming over the to right, I just added an eleven 10 CAT tourniquet holder(I’ve always carried a tourniquet), I have a 5.11 radio pouch to put my portable in, and I carry parashears. Moving into my pants pockets, to my left I always stuff with gloves so I always have them on me. To my right I have a paper religious icon, bandaids in a holder because I found them in a drawer so I threw them in, two extra belt keepers,a notebook and a pair of leather palmed gloves. I also always have my Littman Classic 3. On my name badge I also have a pediatric vitals/asthma score card. I tell my new hires all the time, the best tools for the job is going to be a good stethoscope, a notebook and a pen. My biggest pet peeve is when people lug the tablet in a call and get demos on the tablet. To me it’s a bigger hassle and I’d rather write down what I need real quick and then worry about the rest afterwards. The tablet also to me seems like one isn’t paying attention as well and more worried about writing their report than the call itself.

Idk Where he was working that the O2 wrench isn't tied to every regulator, the decompression needle should NEVER be on your person (its in your airway bag you take in), All you need is your scissors pen, pen light and mask. Anything else is either in your airway bag that goes in on every call, especially if fire responds to calls too, or your trauma bag and in your truck. My medic expects me to have 2 IV kits set up (catheter, syringe, alcohol wipe, bandage/tagaderm) and tied together with a tourniquet.

I had snarky comments made about my belt, looked uncool; but allowed me to carry what I needed, so I did not care- EMS uses more equip than PD and they wear belts. Pager, awhile ago, cellphone, Motorola, shears, lots of gloves- have triple gloved and needed them for shootings in city, key and fob holder, pens and lights, steth with tape, and in a shotgun stock ammo holder turned inside out on belt back- leather gloves for the mva's and a scalpel- either for patients or the guy's neck that stole the ambulance with a medic in back. Although the best idea was to take the fire extinguisher and fill the front with chemical when safe to cause crash. She was ok after rpd rammed the ambo into the guard rail. Also always had a double large bore IV set up to throw to partner when things were bad. The one pouch used the most held the band aids when working bike medic at events, miss those outings. Most important item though, was pepper spray , working system status mngmnt or what you call corner postings had us sitting in the worst sections of town at four in the morning with drugs on board. They paid not much more over min wage then, I wonder how safe it was to do that - I guess I was lucky. ps. you know what looks worse than having the extra stuff you need on your belt..... running back to the ambo, getting hurt, or not having something a pt needs because two medics wanted to look cool and sport a cavalier attitude- if you are getting paid, do cool on your own time..
