Idris Elba was such a good choice for Knuckles. My only complaint with these films is that all the pop culture references (the flossing, for instance) will date the film much more quickly than otherwise. SPOILER WARNING: My favorite Knuckles line is from the end when they get in the truck to get Ice cream after playing baseball when he says to Sonic: "I am told there will be sprinkles" or something to that effect. Even though Knuckles is a little older than Sonic, he's only like 15 or 16; he's just a kid too.

You can actually hear the drowning music. Spoilers: It’s in the scene where Sonic is saving Knuckles from drowning. It’s right after Knuckles gets free and swims up. It’s not the panic inducing alarm sound, but those very distinct notes are present and incorporated into the orchestration. Next time you see the movie, just listen for it. Or you could look up clips. It is very subtle, but I thought it was fitting with how the scene played out.

got home from watching this movie literally an hour ago. i was grinning the whole way through, and i’ve been rambling about it to everyone i know. as someone who was a HUGE sonic fan during childhood, it was an absolute delight. i felt like i was 10 again, and i have a feeling that this may bring back my sonic phase lol it’s so fun and charming, and i absolutely love how they wrote all the sonic characters. they’re a blast whenever they’re on screen, and i’m glad they focused on them more. and that post credits scene??? i am SO hyped for what’s going to come.

The two movies were great and after revisiting sonic riders (I used to play it when I was little) I’m actually interested to play some of the sonic games everyone talks so great about. The word that comes to mind with this movie is "adorable". I've never wanted to give a film and it's characters a hug before in my life but this movie I did. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and even Dr. Eggman are adorable. Tails is the god emperor of cuteness who rules my heart with his fluffiness and his sweet personality. Knuckles is so tough and noble it's beyond cute. Sonic is so cute personality wise and especially that party he throws at the house by himself and the dog. Jim Carrey as Eggman is somehow both menacing and adorable and the Death Egg Robot also has alot of personality and is cute as well. When Sonic called Tom "Dad" I clapped and so did my theater very wholesome and emotional.

Awesome review. I honestly loved every moment including the human scenes. I know they're not everyone's favorite but I didn't mind because humans were never well written in Sonic games. And they're at least tolerable in this. Not to mention that there were a lot of casual adult movie goers who were just there as legal guardians for their kids. So, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is finally here and I loved it. It did the characters so much justice after so long and treats them with respect (especially Knuckles). I guess Knuckles has truly gone from Dumbass to Badass. This isn't the full proper review like my review of the previous film (that will come at a later date), but this is an unscripted discussion that ended up being way longer than I expected it to be (feel free to have it play in the background like a podcast if you want). Honestly, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles all had fantastic character arcs. From Sonic learning to be more responsible and that heroism isn't about stopping the crime as much as it is about protecting others from the crimes. From Tails learning to gain confidence and shrug off the label of "freak." Becoming one of Sonic's most crucial allies. From Knuckles learning to value the fun in life instead of taking everything in a warrior's view.

I'm glad that you brought up the characterization in this movie here because I also think they're really nailed too although one major criticism I have about the writing is that this movie was a bit too much rely on telling rather than showing. It's like this in the first movie too but Sonic was mostly monologuing to himself, so I think it works better in that one. Not that they did a bad job or anything, I just want to see those backstory more. And for Sonic 3 I think it's gonna be a really tough movie to make because they need to find the balance in the characterization and tone of the movie, they can't be comedy like this but they also can't be too serious either. It's gonna be interesting to see if they can do it and how to make it work.

I loved every second of this film, I thought Tails explanation was perfect, loved every scene, watched it with a crowd packed of adults and kids, and we all were laughing, cheering and enjoying the film, they did such an amazing job with the jokes, and combining humor that not only adults would love, but kids equally, one of the funniest scenes was the wedding, the kid's were dying laughing at the antics that were happening. So many people have been saying: the human's should've been in the movie less. But, if they were, the heart, the message of family, and sticking together, realizing your strengths, and that you are stronger as a unit, wouldn't have hit as well, (especially when Super Sonic showed up protecting them, the whole crowd lost it, kid's were really hyped). So, while some people have issues with it, me personally, this is a 10/10 for me, best video game movie, (with the 1st Sonic the Hedgehog being the 2nd, and Detective Pikachu being the 3rd), can't waittttt for Shadow in the next film! 🙌😃🤯😱😃

My thoughts as to why Sonic’s map didn’t automatically show the way to the master emerald when he got to earth was because an echidna wasn’t present but the moment knuckles came into the picture was what activated the map.

This movie was INCREDIBLE! 9/10 I’m so excited about how Sonic’s future will shape the younger generation. I saw some kids bringing a Sonic plushie and Shadow plushie into theaters (imagine how the latter kid felt with that post-credit scene lol). These movies are definitely playing a big part in introducing Sonic to people. I actually worked at a movie theater when the first Sonic movie came out, and I can definitely say there were a lot of kids who came to see it who really loved Sonic! Saw all kinds of plushies and backpacks and even a pajama onesie at one point, haha. And there was a few kids in the row behind me when I watched the sequel that totally flipped out when they saw the post-credits scene, it was so sweet. Love seeing people of all ages so excited about these movies and these characters :)

Watched this last week Friday before Ramadan, and I think I was the only one cheering with all the action. And I guessed that Edgy the Hedgy would be at the end of the film. I loved all of the character stories. My favourite scenes would be the Siberian Bar Fight (Tails sleeping in front of the fireplace, and Sonic covering him with a blanket and Tails’ tails covering him as a makeshift blanket was too wholesome), the Knuckles and Sonic fight scene at Labyrinth Zone, EGGMAN and Stone’s bromance with the Death Egg Robot’s creation, the Super Sonic transformation (that small hint at the end of the Super Scene referring Fleetway Super Sonic was golden), and that Sonic Heroes moments made me squeal inside. By far one of the best films ever. I loved how they tapped into Tails’ and Robotnik’s ingenuity and intellect, Knuckles’ brawn and tribal introverted ways, and how GUN still thinks they’re doing the right thing, but still being a pain in the ass. I was also a bit skeptical at Idris playing Knuckles, but he nailed it. He brought the gruff and brawn voice to the echidna. I would have preferred someone else playing as Tails, since they’re bringing in new VAs, but Colleen played really well. Carrey brought life to the character again, a good mix between Adventure and Pollock Eggman. Tom and Maddie were well written as well. But Man was this a good review. Keep up the great work!!

Rouge very well may be on the chopping block in terms of characters to be removed from the next movie( nothing againts her, it's just that she's the most expendable in terms of popularity and story importance). She may make it if she's featured in the knuckles show. I would say the same for Amy, but given the reaction to the initial sonic design as well as the reaction to the last time a sonic adaptation gave her conversation with shadow to someone else, I think the filmmakers are going to be more cautious when it comes to what they do with her.

I would argue that Amy is easier to cut. Rouge has a lot more reason to be there since she's not only involved with Knuckles' treasure hunt plot but she's a GUN double agent. They could expand her interest in the Master Emerald to its actual power and reputation and have a third party (not necessarily GUN) hire her to get it.

I like how they portrayed Knuckles. Badass and stoic but funny at times mainly because of his poor social skills. Knuckles was able to be occasionally funny without it coming at the expense of his character

There is something to be said about seeing a gaming franchise treated this well. Honestly I really was happy to see how it was a true video game movie. It is what video game movies should be. Giving some real love to what the fans of the games would want while also making sure it's just a good movie in general. Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Robotnik were all treated well here. It was a great showing for these characters. For Tails and Knuckles especially it was a great start to their arcs. They have such room to grow heading into the next movie. Yet it isn't like they were treated badly here. They are where they should be at this point of their stories and are great in it. Even the ridiculous wedding stuff was still fun. The humans are part of this film universe. I don't mind them getting some love. Just so long as the stars of the show remain the game characters. And they are the stars of this thing.

There's something really indescribable about watching a fan geek out over their favorite franchise being successful when there are so few faithful adaptions/spinoffs/gameofthrones out there that live up to the hype. Paramount succeeded phenomenally where a thousand other studios have failed.

Going Shadow is incredibly bold. I don't know what they're going to do. It's the most fleshed out and loved sonic story. they benefit from story flexibility. i hope they didn't write themselves into a corner here

Just got back from the movie. I loved it a lot, Sonic fans will definitely love this movie. my only gripe, is that I was hoping the fights between Sonic and Knuckles was a bit longer but overall I like with what we got. Very entertaining. Just everything about this movie made my inner Sonic fan that I thought was gone long ago has risen up from the depths of my mind. I’m glad it came back. I love this movie a lot.

I can't describe how awesome the movie was yesterday, me and my friend saw that the KZbinr Preston Blaine Arsement was in the volleyball scene and in the Mean Bean (reference to Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) that there was a costume from Robotnik's first appearance in the Sonic games. Honestly I think the main purpose of the wedding thing was simply to introduce G.U.N., since they are going to play a major part in the next movie, with it obviously being based off the adventure games. But another purpose of the wedding would be as an excuse for sonic not being with Tom and maddie for half of the movie

It was a nice touch but I really miss more music references (or even a more memorable music in both films). This movie was so damn great, I'm still grinning. So I don't know if this is ever brought up in conversation often, but the guy playing the commander of GUN is Garry Chalk who also voiced Robotnik in Sonic Underground as well as Grounder in the AoSTH TV series (among others) andthat always seems to amuse me seeing him attached to more Sonic stuff.

Unfortunately that is incorrect. Garry Chalk played a role as the Navy Chief of Staff in the first movie. Tom Butler plays the GUN Commander. I would have been happy if he had a role, but he does not.

This is how I like the view these movies: Sonic 1: sonics origin, him obtaining the tools he needs to be the best version of himself (a hero) Sonic 2: sonic learning how to properly use and/or utilize the tools he’s obtained to become a better hero And hopefully Sonic 3 and onward: he puts his skills and lessons to action, becoming a great hero and leader, learning new lessons along the way. Tools-his reason for fighting (family and friends) his powers and his ideals basically

Everything about this movie was perfect. Every character seemd either like their old selves, or just a massive improvement. I didn't expect tails to come out so well, and for knuckles to actually be interesting, but here we are. However, it seems like the third movie is going to be about shadow. That ain't much of a problem, except for the fact that we are still missing amy rose. This most likely means that I won't get to see an adaptation of my favorite villan in one of these movies (chaos) and it kind of seems like they skipped SA1 almost completely. Otherwise, great movie.
